  1. Page & Plant worked together again in the 90s, I'm guessing icantquityoubabe hates them too. As for the "jump in the lake with Jahfin" thing, I'm not the only one here that's expressed an opposing viewpoint to the "90s sucked" thing (or that the 70s music was somehow superior). I do agree with Kissandra though, icantquityoubabe is a fuckin' idiot and tends to dig a deeper hole for himself each time he posts. As for Grease and Saturday Night Fever, can't say I ever liked either of them. Years later I did see Saturday Night Fever the movie and didn't think it was bad at all, the soundtrack still did nothing for me however.
  2. Of course me being in NC, it is all over the news here.
  3. A "revival"? Rock n' roll is everywhere. Speaking just for myself I don't need to hear it on the radio or see it on music television to know it's out there. I've been an avid music listener/fan since the early 70s and have never had any problem finding music I like, even in the 00s.
  4. According to an article in a recent issue of Rolling Stone about an all hair metal fest in Oklahoma many of them don't. Guess they're helping to keep the wig business afloat.
  5. Heard a cut from it the other day on XM's Deep Tracks juxtaposed against a classic Trower track, didn't sound too bad. http://www.robintrower.com/Store-Tour/seven_moons_order.html
  6. I don't think video killed the radio star either. I know from my own personal perpective it didn't change the music I listened to. If anything programs like 120 Minutes and PostModern MTV helped turn me onto artists I never would have heard of otherwise since most of them never would have received airplay on local radio stations (other than college ones) since they were far too experimental for commercial radio.
  7. I could give a shit if any artist "stands the test of time". It isn't some competition of what artist or decade of music is percieved to be better than another. That isn't why I listen to music. I listen to it for the enjoyment it brings me. All that other shit doesn't even enter the picture.
  8. Can't say I ever bought into that argument. It really doesn't fly in this day and age when the most popular shows on VH1 and MTV are "reality" shows and music has become secondary (if not altogether absent) from both of them.
  9. Try searching the Other Bands/Music section of the site.

  11. When did anyone ever say "that since the music is newer and technology has advanced that music must also be better"? Not to beat a dead horse but you should really read people's posts much more thoroughly before replying. As for programs like Get the Lead Out, Breakfast with the Beatles and the Floyd Void, yes they're a testimony to all of those bands' longevity but they're also guaranteed ratings getters. As for the artists of the 90s "standing the test of time", all you need to do is look around (hard, I know since you seem to prefer living in the past) and you'll see very many of them still going strong, not the least of which is Pearl Jam. You have to remember, a lot of people tried to dismiss rock n' roll as a "fad" but here it is, still going strong as well. Same for "rap".
  12. I'm a fan of Dickey Betts and Great Southern myself but you'd be doing yourself a tremendous disservice if you passed on seeing the current incarnation of the ABB just because Dickey is no longer in the group. Derek Truck and Warren are helping to propel that band to heights I'm sure they never thought were imaginable, especially after Duane Allmans death and the departure of Dickey Betts. As for Chuck Leavell, who was mentioned earlier in the thread, his commentary during the Allmans' XM's Then Again...Live performance of Eat A Peach is priceless as he describes what was going on during several very intricate musical passages during the making of that record. He also has some very moving things to say about Duane and Berry Oakley, Jr. during what had to be a very, very hard time during the Allmans much storied history.
  13. That "guy" is none other than Jake Shimabukuro, a very talented artist who can often be found touring in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band (as well as opening some of his shows). He also contributes a spellbounding version of Stars & Stripes Forever to the very excellent Song of America compilation that was released last year which also includes the Black Crowes, Marah, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Del McCoury Band, Bettye Lavette and tons of others. More info here: http://www.jakeshimabukuro.com http://www.myspace.com/songofamerica
  14. If it weren't for the 90s I would have never discovered one of my favorite bands in Pearl Jam and that's only scraping the tip of the iceberg. I've encountered my fair share of closed minded individuals on this site over the years but icantquityoubabe may just take the fuckin' cake.
  15. I'm not sure when you saw Dickey but since being booted from the Allman Brothers he hasn't exactly been playing the type of venues he was once accustomed to. In other words, he's pretty much been delegated to the bar circuit.
  16. Most indie stores I'm aware of don't sell bootlegs anymore. I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy them anyway especially since you can get most live recordings for free these days via download sites (and trading for them for free). Then there's the bigger picture of robbing artists of the money that should be going into their pockets, not bootleggers who don't even give a shit about the artists. They just want to make a buck.
  17. I guess it depend on what region you live in but the majority of Best Buys in my area still have lots of good deals, you just have to catch the new releases while they're still on sale.
  18. I think you hit the "little kid" part right square on the head.
  19. It all boils down to a matter of opinion but you state it as though it were a cold, hard fact. On that I call total bullshit.
  20. To each their own but it would probably help if you actually listened to the music from that decade before totally dismissing it. Those that live in the past are doomed to repeat it. That's not a musical outlook I'd enjoy, at all.
  21. This reminds me a bit of Cedell Davis, except he plays slide with a butterknife. Hannes Coetzee - Tea Spoon Slide Guitar
  22. I love Zep, the Stones and Floyd as much as the next person but what a fucked up existence to resign one's self to the fact that that's the best they'll ever hear. Oh, and on the "doll meat" thing, we get it already.
  23. No problem, point taken but like I said, I didn't have a list of nominees in front of me when I posted or I most certainly would have mentioned Plant/Krauss.
  24. From Raleigh, NC News & Observer music writer David Menconi's blog: http://blogs.newsobserver.com/beat/index.p...p;tb=1&pb=1 Going going gone: Two Dollar Pistols Chapel Hill's Two Dollar Pistols are calling it quits. The announcement comes via a MySpace posting headlined Adios, amigos: It is with a heavy heart that the Pistols announce to their friends that after ten years of recording and twelve years of performances, the band is calling it a day in 2008. We're still booking a few shows-though not many-and we're going to try and make it long enough to have a "last show" blowout sometime later in the year. Keep an eye on this page or www.twodollarpistols.com for updates on the band's final appearances and what the individual members will be up to in the future. Very special thanks to those of you who have supported us over the years-we couldn't have done it without you. Come see and say Adios! For now, the Pistols are playing Raleigh's Berkeley Cafe Feb. 8 with Jason Ringenberg; and Feb. 22 at Durham's Broad Street Cafe. Meanwhile, Pistols guitarist Scott McCall will be joining Tift Merritt's touring band this spring.
  25. Perhaps but this being the Other Bands/Music section of the board the other nominees are also well worth mentioning. I love Zep (as well as Plant/Krauss) but man doesn't live by Zep alone. At least not me.
