Does anyone have the photo from Polar that apparently showed the GX1 and a marimba? I recall seeing that but I cannot find it anywhere! Mandela Effect?? 🙃

Never mind , I found it. I always figured Jonesy must've handled the marimba duties on FITR. I doubt they hired a percussionist but if they did, they aren't credited.

“Legend has it ABBA’s Benny and Bjorn took Robert Plant on a night out after meeting at the Stockholm recording facility.”

First of all, going out with Robert Plant in 1978 was far from “partying with Led Zeppelin”. He had cleaned himself up since the death of his son.

“We had a chat and they said they’d be generous with studio time. We went out there in December [’78], I think. It was biting cold, snow everywhere…

Led Wallet strikes again...Pagey always looking for a bargain!

Definitely a click bait article. But that time period is always an interesting one, much like when they wrote and recorded ‘Presence’ while on tax exile and recovery. Thanks for posting.

    LED WALLET...LOL, yes. 🤣

There are still a few that pop up that may have been only on CD before. I picked up a couple last year. North American Tour 1971 which is 3 sides Orlando and 1 side Toronto. Live In Denmark 1969, the March 15 Egegaard Skool show. Both on the Open Mind label.

I saw that 71 tour set and was thinking about purchasing it, but it annoyed me that they didn't put the complete show on 4 LPS. Same with one of the Fillmore shows I think, it's also incomplete. I don't know why they do that, just press another LP and charge a little more. Did you enjoy the 71 tour release?

Dude, that's YOU! You're amazing, really talented and humble too. Just fantastic drumming and that turnaround at 1:37 is damp impressive.

Keep rockin Porgie!!! Happy New Year!!!

Appreciate that, happy new year as well.

My channel has every studio song except Moby Dick , and full 73, and 75 tour set covers, a complete RAH note for note, as well as numerous demos and tutorials. No one else has as much Bonham content on the YouTubes. 😊https://youtube.com/channel/UCyPPcUtsiLoagS62b4qkYtg

There are at least two drummers on YouTube who do a bunch of Bonzo's tracks and the two I have seen are damn good drummers. Just saw Bonhamology do Candy Store Rock which is a real pain to play, especially the turnarounds. Bonzoleum is also quite good.

    Thanks for watching!

Here's another interesting one, looks like Bonham is using traditional grip here. Although there are a few pictures of him using the grip down the years, this is maybe the only one I've seen of him live with Zeppelin...

Yes, although this is Pages how solo so he's either not playing or he's doing some little rolls or accents. Sometimes he would cross stick at this point. Also, note the Slingerland chrome snare.

I had a feeling you may have seen it. I'd go along with the Trixon theory, those ride cymbal stands look like an accident waiting to happen.

Good to (cyber) speak to you again, it's been too long. Not much happening in Zeppelin world these days unfortunately although I still watch your YouTube videos (which are always amazing).

Thanks, appreciate that very much! Hope all is well in your world. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😁

@porgie66 Thought you would be interested in this.

@Mook   Yes I posted it recently on my Instagram. From a gig w Terry Webb. There is another where he is seated behind the drums posing with the band. I got it off the recent YouTube tribute / memorial video ....I took a screen shot. It's hard to tell but it looks like he's playing a Trixon kit. It's so frustrating that the one pic of him playing pre - Zeppelin , you can't really make out the drums. I haven't seen one other pic of him playing before Zep. This is it. I think!

Robert's voice recovers extremely well in 77, his voice in 77 sounds the closest to his earlier years performances.

It recovered in the sense he learned how to adapt and use it to it's strengths....but the old voice was gone by fall of 72, never to return. His high range and ability to wail and air-raid was pretty much over after 72. He sounded good in 77 but it's a different sound.

  10. Given all the attention 75 boards get , this a deserves way more adulation. The show is outstanding, one of the best overall from the tour. The tape is very good too. BD, OTHAFA, SIBLY, Rain Song are all exceptional, and NQ is as good as it gets, WLL has some brutal funk from Jones and Bonzo. Thanks to all who liberated this tape ! 👍🏻

I have the initial tapes on godfather, but isn't that version edited? Is there a complete version from the multi-tracks or soundboard around?

    No, only audience spliced in.

It is clear Jimmy Page wanted a light touch on "Rain Song". I believe this is the only song in the Led Zeppelin catalogue where John Bonham used brushes. So it makes sense that Jimmy wanted Bonham's drums to come in like a whisper.

I actually prefer the original version where Bonham's entrance starts with the cymbals to the alternate mix.

I do too. It is interesting though that Jimmy chose to chop off the little triplet before the cymbal entrance. This is the only song that Bonzo used brushes only.
