Question about Bowie's 1971 release - The Man Who Sold The World.
I'm a regular visitor and member of Discogs and saw that a UK version of this LP sold in March 2019 for $1,493.
The notes for this release say "The album's original UK version, which arrived in British stores five months after the American release. Features the controversial dress cover."
What’s the controversy? He wore a dress? I know there are a couple of different covers for this release. Is the dress cover really worth a months rent/mortgage?
I like Bowie, but am not a superfan. Hopefully someone can educate me on the rarity of this release. Thanks!
Maybe the dress-cover was controversial back in 1971, at least irritating for some "open minded" folks. LOL!
But it is not the dress cover that makes this LP sought-after. It is simply because it is a first UK pressing. First pressings should have the possible best sound. Different pressing plants had/have different pressing quality (=sound quality)
Take a look at the first UK pressings of Led Zeppelin LPs (I - IV), the ones with the plum label, you will be surprised by the extraordinary prices.

I have both, and yes, they are both excellent. I prefer the The Great Beast, but that is just my personal taste.

The sound quality might indeed bet better on the EU version, but both the EU and North American versions are 180 gram.
The european pressings are manufactured by OPTIMAL/Germany, a pressing plant with a stellar reputation. The US pressings are manufactured by PALLAS/USA. This can explain possible differences in sound quality.

Alarm!
It´s getting serious, at last. Just saw this one:
Coming April 2019 pre-order your copy today! Orders with both pre-order and in stock items will have all in stock items shipped immediately!
Live Recordings On Vinyl LP!
The April 24th, Fillmore West concert was the debut date of the Zeppelin's second US tour when the British band definitely conquered the American audience with their powerful and yet sensual Rock-Blues sound. The tour was a massive success thanks to the band's top form and inspiration and an extremely reactive audience. That palpable energy you can easily get through these historical recordings.
Features:
• Vinyl LP
Selections:
Side A:
1. White Summer
2. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You
3. Killing Floor
Side B:
1. As Long As I Have You -

I think that if there were actual issues between band members, it was dealt with on an intermediary basis via Grant, with the best known example in the early days where Jimmy got Bonzo to not play so loud.
If I remember correctly Bonzo´s loudness wasn´t the problem. Young John Henry showed some nerves and simply overplayed everything, too many fills, breaks & rolls- simply too much.

Are they going to dribble the songs out like they did with 9/29/71?
Oh no, if it is going to be a January 75 SB, things will be completely different.
Due to Mr. Plant´s outstanding vocal artistry the new SB will not only sell for just half of the usual price, furthermore, buyers will be rewarded with an additional SB (of their choice) for free.
Those lucky devils who are able to send in their original ticket stub of any January 75 date, will be provided with 3 additional SBs- a kind of late compensation...........

in pick 1 was that the average amp set up for them onstage. If so how on earth did they get the massive sound.
You can´t see any amp or speaker cabinet in this picture, but they got plenty of them in 1973.
I think you mean JPJ´s mellotron and the keys, clear to see in this picture:

From the companion book of the LZ II super deluxe box:
Description of the Thank You mastertape: audio track nr. 6: backing vocals 1, audio track nr .7: lead vocals & audio track nr. 8: backing vocals 2
This doesn´t necessarily mean that both Pagey & Bonzo did the backing vocals, most likely Robert did one of the backing vocals.
To my ears it is Jimmy.

Good Lord! No matter what you will nitpick after this precious 1980 tour, things can only get better.
Enjoy yourself! Lol

Could have sworn it was later, twenty three months then. Rick is closer than me..
The last 2 weeks I have listened from 12..-14 Feb. 75 (RP: our new record will be released next week) to the LA run 24.-27. March 75 (RP: Have you got your copy of PG yet?)
Conclusion: I prefer the NY gigs by a mile & I badly need a overdose of some 70 - 71 boots.

Live and Led Live ~ Flying Disc label
New Orleans '73
One of my favorites of the 73 US tour. I have played my Drag Queen Of New Orleans by Wendy last week.
No Quarter is great, though the main guitar riff is played without wahwah. The drumming on Dazed & Confused is remarkably hard & daring.

This is rather "things you have NOT heard from the audience":
10/10/72 Kyoto, last gig of their 72 Japan tour
After a 19 minutes long Dazed & Confused a puzzled Robert Plant says "Man sleeping in the front row, will you please stand up"

I'm glad this knob isn't a thing in America. I'd rather have Justin Bieber.
Hold on, Robbie Williams will entertain Las Vegas from March to July 2019.
I think he should stay there, no Tower House to ruin & the mob knows how to handle such a sweety.

Actually, don’t know if I can wait that long. My birthday is the 22nd December. I’ll sort it so I get to open it then. So it will be winging its way to you over the internet in time for the Christmas holidays
Hi Neil, congrats in advance to your birthday-christmas present. Got my GZ BH yesterday, it is amazingly good. No doubt, to my ears the definite version of source 3 & BH in general. Instruments are perfectly balanced, voice & guitar never sounded that good. Also, drums and bass are much clearer, in fact the bass notes can be heard in detail like never before, and yes, it has an extraordinary punch in the lower frequencies. By the way, the 3rd CD with rubber dubber- source two is excellent too.
So, when your family leaves home for visiting remote relatives, you know what to do.

Led Zeppelin VS Deep Purple- comparisons like this are not my cup of tea. I love both of them, it is as simple as that.
And yes, Made in Japan is brilliant, no overdubs & no frankenstein-studio-wizardry. Mr. Page, example given.

Do you know what their source mix is? I think it may be the same as the fan share on dime from some years ago with the same title. The following is the text from that version.
I have no idea. It is stereo, don´t know if only one source or different sources has been used.

A lot of people talking about Eat A Peach - "Live On Blueberry Hill". I think it's almost a superb version of this show, however... it's almost impossible to buy. Not even on www.cdandlp.com which has the other 5 EAP releases for sale.
I have ordered my copy of "A Sweeter Blueberry" on Golden Eggs (the current label name of the Godfather/Eat A Peach people) yesterday on ebay, just € 23 excl. shipping.
You have to order them very quickly after the initial release date, shortly after the price is increasing rapidly + they are really hart to find.

Graveyard, tomorrow at ARENA, Vienna
This will be the fourth time, they are getting better every time, especially since the lead guitarist has switched to a Les Paul and discovered the wah pedal.

I appreciate that. Eat A Peach release is what I was listening to before I gave it to a co-worker. I always enjoy testing a copy of that one out.
Until yesterday, I had never heard the Eat A Peach (formally Godfather?) release. Thank you, Strider.
I don´t think the Winston Remaster is among the best versions of this show, whereas the Eat A Peach is truly a good one. But I´d recommend the recently released Wendy Box, which contains 4 different complete sources plus the partial Rubber Dubber source. Two of the Wendy sources surpass the Eat A Peach version easily, at least to my ears.
But maybe there is another nominee for the gold medal, as the Graf Zeppelin Label has released their version of Blueberry Hill just a few days ago.
Usually 9/10 Graf Zeppelin relases are blessed with awesome sound.........

So, anyone watching Mindhunter yet???
Finished season 1 a few months ago, a brilliant series, there will be a sequel. If you are interested in the subject, I highly recommend the netflix series The Alienist. More or less about the very beginning of criminal analytic psychology, story is situated in the late 19th century in New York.

1. August - Tommy Bolins´ Birthday!
Took a 6 hour musical journey to celebrate this great man: Zephyr, James Gang, Ebbets Field 74 & 76, some Spectrum & Mind Transplant, finally Come Taste The Band & various Deep Purple Mk4 live recordings.

LA Forum, 31. May 73, Bonzo´s Birthday Party, audience recording: During the guitar intro of OTHAFA, about 30 to 40 seconds into the song, the taper or a guy next to the recorders mic yells "MY BOOT!!!" for whatever reason.
