He used to have a house in Primrose Hill though I think he primarily resides in the Midlands.

Ah, I see- Primrose Hill isn´t really far away from Camden. I have noticed that over the past years he gave most of his interviews in cafes or kebab houses situated in Camden.

    Thanks for the info.

That man bag is completely unacceptable.

I've just burned all my Zeppelin albums.

Agreed, this bag looks pretty shitty, but he did not carry it without a cause.

On his way home from the Awards  he took a rest in a lovely park, opened his bag & took out the cigarette-papers and some.........

And you know how it is.....

BTW, do you know if he lives in the north of London, he mentions Camden Town quite often.

I’m hoping you’re right. My understanding is that “Eelgrass” releases come out shortly after EV releases and are a cheaper version. Is this true? And are EV and Eelgrass one and the same companies....one offering a premium packaged product and the other a cheap and cheerful one? Or do Eelgrass just rip off EV releases?

Responding to  the release of Deus Ex Machina by Eelgrass, EV released their budget jewel case shortly after, to the same price. The EV budget version came quite exactly 2 months after the initial releases of their limited box sets. My love for the 75 tour is manageable, so I thought buying the EV cheapo is a good idea.

Wouldn't they produce much more fanfare to increase the 50th anniversary fever? For last year's 'Deus ex Machina' Seattle 75 SB they fired on all cylinders ...months before its release.

Fingers crossed...hopefully the elusive 929 board will be released in september (and by the end of the year they throw in the SB/multitrack dub matrix😈 which is even more exciting, me thinks)

Could be their classy strategy, keep silent, leave the spotlight on Jimmy´s announcements for official anniversary releases. The book in October, the re-remastered TSRTS in September- huh, breathtaking. Hopefully one interesting "Live from the Archives" for christmas, if at all. And then, out of the blue, EV´s  929 early September. No advertising or fanfare needed, this is a holy grail.

Knowing the new IS version, the only thing that would benefit from a SB/multitrack matrix would be the guitar. Is it technical possible to bring in just the guitar? All the other instruments of the old (so called) SB version would spoil the sound of the new, real SB. If it´s possible, one should use the guitar of Wendy´s definite 929 release of 2016, it is raw & exiting like the official RAH 1970.

    And then 928, please.

  5. Mook is right. The original photo shows members of JASTA 11, the famous fighter-pilot-squadron, led by Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen (Der rote Baron). This was WW1 and Pilots often wore individual overcoats. Anyway, similar designed coats were used by the navy also. If you search the net for a short coat with double-row-button bar, you should find something similar.

Here is a link for an authentic german WW1 pilot jacket:  https://www.amazon.de/Noble-House-Fliegerjacke-Lederjacke-Ledermantel/dp/B00UZCPN5A

Lovely response mate and much appreciated. Thanks. I have the STH from that show in MP3 if you’d like it. It sounds great

Thanks for your kind offer. It may sound weird, but I don´t even want to hear another single release, that would "spoil" my anticipation for the hopefully complete release. IMO there will be no more single releases, as I am totally convinced of EV releasing 929 about september. Imagine, that would be he definite 50th anniversary release.

Oh hi. Better get to spec savers mate. Or back to class to learn comprehension. Where was the whining? Where was the sense of entitlement?

Oh, and while we’re at it...where did I bash EV? I stated facts. They did spit the dummy.

I’ve bought boots before, just not recently. Is it a competition? If they put out 929 IN FULL I’ll be sorely tempted. But I’ll want to hear what it sounds like first

Hi, I´d like to apologize for offending you with some of my comments, for becoming personal. That wasn´t  smart, wasn´t polite- sorry for that.

Back on topic. About EV spat the dummy- Honestly, what kind of reaction did you expect from EV? I am not a fan of their Superdeluxe-Boxsets-policy either, but I can understand their point of view.

About 929, I just have the IS-single & I am convinced with its sound quality. I think you know the new versions of IS and STH, Friends will be with the same superior sound, I suppose so.

Finally, no, I don´t think it is a competition. I am happy with my bootleg collection, that´s it. If someone has 5 times as much, if someone has downloaded every boot ever released, congratulations! -what´s that to me?

I’ve been wondering. Ordinarily, recently released boots have been fairly easy to come by on the net. However, since EV spat the dummy after the release of the Seattle 75 gig (apparently they were pissed off it appeared on torrent sites so quickly), they have become more difficult to acquire e.g I have not been able to get a copy of Friends from Osaka 71.

No 929 Friends yet? Man, the tears are tripping me. Sorry, don`t want to be disrespectful, but this is way too funny.

    On 6/25/2018 at 3:07 PM, Xolo1974 said:

My question is, are purchasers heeding the warnings of EV? (I.e if this stuff gets leaked onto the net, they won’t release any more of it).

Dont get me wrong, if people buy this stuff at a premium, I have no problem with them keeping it close to their chest. I’ve always been very grateful for what I have received. I’m just curious about the noticeable change in availability on recent releases.

Why all this EV & Co. bashing? Haven`t you ever thought about the bootleg business & its mechanisms? To get a boot released companies like EV have to track down the tape owners, convince them, negotiate the price & finally have to invest a lot (!) of money upfront. This is not managed by Father Christmas, and I haven`t heard about a crowdfunding project of torrent sites & downloaders yet. And then there are hopefully 200 fans who will buy the limited silvers, which are really expensive these days, due to a bigger number of fans who download & never pay a single $. Finally, I have been buying boots for 30 years, I am not a rich man & there were years I couldn`t afford to buy a single boot.

So, let´s do what we do best: I keep buying silvers & you keep downloading, with our heads held high, no whining!

You read my mind mate. He was also reported at the time to have been listening to a 73 version of D and C. I reckon it is Southampton, which would indeed be massively disappointing.

I’m hoping Empress Valley release the full Osaka 71 show. I can’t see the official releases being that exciting

    This! & please both 928 & 929!!!

    7 hours ago, Mook said:

I can't see him releasing Southampton at all, if Plant has any sort of say in it then there's no way it will get an official release.

Ha, this would be the first and only time that I would thank Mr. Plant for preventing a LZ live release.

  10. Weird, on this forthcoming 4LP set the 29 minutes of Dazed & Confused will be squeezed onto one side. The 2007 version has it separated over two sides. 29 minutes on one side, I don`t think this will necessarily improve the sound quality. Remember the Stones` Aftermath, their decision to give us the full "Goin Home" treatment (the worst jam on vinyl ever, only topped by Loves` "Revelation" on Da Capo) deteriorated the sound noteworthy.

Anyway, only will buy this if the 1976 version of No Quarter is on board.

  11. 45 minutes ago, Mook said:

The Song Remains The Same is getting the super deluxe treatment, released on 7th September 2018...

Which I suspect knocks any other releases on the head until Christmas at least.

Just kidding? No? Man, this is a downer. I have got the 2007/2008 remasters on CD, DVD & the superb sounding 4LP-set, halfspeed remastered by Bob Ludwig. Don`t think this new release will surpass them in soundquality. Anyway, this will not serve the 50 anniversary well.

I disagree with premise of this thread.  Other years I understand but.......

^1+++, the thread "in search of the best 73 concerts" is another thing.

These shows (Europe '73) always make me think that Page and Bonham are playing at another level to cover for Plant...

Agreed, the four of them must have been in a state of shock from January onwards. Without any doubt a hard time til Plant`s voice finally stabilized (to some degree) on the 9th US tour.

    On 6/17/2018 at 6:10 AM, ZepHead315 said:

So I'm assuming for this year you're going to be grading on a steeper curve given the level of Page's playing? So for example this OTHAFA is a B+ by 73 standards, yet would be an A or A+ by 75 or 77 standards, is that correct? I'm really looking forward to your breakdowns from this year and I'm particularly curious what you think of Chicago. Is it bad by 73 standards, or is it bad in general (if you take Plant's voice out of the equation cause let's be honest, he sounds like shit at that show)? Regardless, there's a ton of gems from throughout this year. The last year where the band (minus Plant) was firing on all cylinders at a consistent rate.

And this is exactly the point where things get a little complicated. "Taking Plant`s voice out of the equation" & "band firing on all cylinders (minus Plant)" will not necessarily lead to satisfying outcome. IMO one has to clearly distinguish:

1.) Page`s playing in 73, truly outstanding, his peak for many fans.

2.) The 1973 concerts, judged by THEIR actual performance. Whenever in poor shape,  you can`t count Plant out, it was a four piece band and he was an equal integral part.

For example their gig in Vienna, March 16th: I was born in Vienna November 1971, never got the chance to see them live myself. But I have known 3 lads (16, 17 and 20 years old in 1973) who attended this very concert. Of course, I drove them crazy with questions about their concert experience. To cut a long story short, some impressions they reported in conformity:

Dazed & Confused was the absolute highlight of the show.

Page & Bonham were equally praised, all three of them said, that they never have seen a better live performance by any guitarist or drummer, before and after.

Plant`s damaged voice was evident, right from the start. One even said, that Plant sounded boozy.

For some songs Plant used way too much reverb/delay effects to cover his weak voice, which wasn`t suitable with the acoustics of the huge Wiener Stadthalle.

They all complained about lack of older songs & too much then unfamiliar HOTH songs.

It was fucking loud, they had ringing ears for days, especially the youngest, who was seated tenth row, a little right of center.***

I did, "The Overture" also. 👍 "Tit For Tat" arriving next week...💪

Haha, I`ve noticed that you never seem to lose any time with your orders. I am not quite convinced yet. I guess you have older releases of the 72 Japan shows, so please let us know, if the new ones are the huge upgrades promised.

  14. The box is already on sale. Artwork is beautiful, I`d choose The Overture, I`ve always liked that weird image. Buy it or not- I guess I`ll wait for the first reviews.

    Has anyone ordered yet?

My Tokyo contact said that this time they did use many upgraded and best available sources to create most definitive and best sounding versions for each show. I do not know yet any further details but I do trust my contact and if he's saying  that they are upgrades, they do really.

Sounds good, and for six shows the price is moderate.

This will piss Jimmy off supreme if the first proper "50th" release is How The East Was Won.

This 72 box set is only the  Overture, the big one will be most likely 929 or/and 928 in September. So, Jimmy would bomb EVSDs business by releasing HTEWW (Sept.71) officially, but I don`t think he will.

Fair enough. I would describe this recording as a beautiful priceless treasure. Different strokes...

But I enjoy audience/lo-fi recordings to the point of almost preferring them.

Don`t get me wrong, I love audience recordings & usually prefer them to SBs, but I have a serious problem with that Detroit recording. It is only fair to call the sound quality VG - EX, but sadly not for my ears.

Have you heard  the Tarantura2K "Songs For Europe" yet? This should be very good, maybe from a lower generation tape.

  18. 19. Sept. 1970/MSG/evening show. This show is simply outstanding. It may took a little while to get used to the sound of the recording, but now I like it more than some "objective better" sounding audience recordings. IMO the best available is the Eat a Peach release.

    13. Sept. 1971/Berkeley. Again, an incredible performance with a nice natural sound, sometimes easier for my ears than the legendary gig on the 14th. I am happy with the Graf Zeppelin version.

At last, a recording with "that very special something" : 12. July 1973/Cobo Hall Detroit. Though this audience recording is described as very good to excellent, I can`t stand it. This sound is brutal torture, after two songs I am starting to feel unwell, God, how I hate this piece of trash.

I really need to nitpick some 73 shows.

Yes please, I have enjoyed your 75 & 77 nitpicks, though I consider myself mainly as a 69-73 fan.

On 24th April you said: " I'd really dread doing most 73 shows because at least with the 75 shows, I can find a good array of both good and bad. With 73, I'd just be boring people to death jerking off over Page."

Well, don`t be afraid- there is plenty of light & shade in these 73 shows. Just one suggestion, please don`t isolate the shows of the european tour from the gigs of the US tour, this procedure might enable a clearer view on the pros & cons of any particular show- for example: Is Vienna really that good compared to Seattle? Is Essen on par with New Orleans?...........

Dancing days always sounded thin, like it needed a second guitar, and was a disappointment.

Totally agreed! For example just think of Vienna 73, such a rugged, horrible version- guitar slightly out of tune, Robert`s damaged voice didn`t help either- what a desaster!

Given Robert`s weak voice at the time, they should have included No Quarter in the Europe 73 setlist instead.
