Kaká's last home game for OCSC today.  Farewell, Captain!

Kaká hangs up his boots? He was a great player who has won everything. Adeus Ricardo.

I remember watching Nosferatu for the first time in HS and absolutely hating it. Thought it was boring and silly...dumb silent movie.

I revisited it in my 30's with a few friends who were film buffs and it was like a bolt of lightning. It's funny how the adult mind perceives what the child's mind cannot. Every time since I have watched Nosferatu I come to love it more and more each time, and in general appreciate the impact and gifts the German expressionist movement of the 20's & early 30's gave us. Of course most of those great filmmakers emigrated to America once asshole came to power, and thus was born noir and that whole scene.

When I was in my 20's, I was so scared by the scene, Nosferatu is standing outside the bedroom door and he is grabbing at the girl.
The monster at your bed is a girl's nightmare.

German expressionism created such a new exciting visual language. Beauty, harmony, perfection are gone. It have been creative but also dark and depressed years. The ashes, the evil and vicious phoenix arose from. And I am very happy for everyone who left in the 30's.

Yes a great story. I suspect Iceland will be seeded above our wretched team.

We were like watching cheese go mouldy. I watched an hour of such drivel at the weekend that when Mrs CP woke me up to say there was a live show from Coldplay on, I watched that. Well that's not exactly true - it was a travelogue about a train journey through the Gobi desert.

I will not be watching the finals in Russia. We have no clue, no chance and no passion. We have learned nothing since 1966 and even then it was a non goal. Ironically it was a Russian Linesman who "gifted" us the goal which never crossed the line.

    File under : Non acheivers

Watching Train journey through the Gobi desert, part 2: Sandstorm, is more exciting than most qualifiers are.

England went through the qualification campaign unbeaten. Gareth Southgate is doing his job well. Harry Kane is a fantastic player. There are no reasons to give up hope.

And non achievers is the name of the Dutch team. Oops, they did it again.

The success of the Iceland team is so cool. They qualified in a group with Croatia, Ukraine and Turkey. That's astonishing. So, what did we learn today: you don't need over-paid, cocky posers to win a match

  4. The return of the thunder-clap: Iceland has qualified for the World Cup. That's terrific. Nice team, nice fans, great atmosphere: HUH

Love the comparison idea... the bloom is to small to be an Allium flower. What plant is it?

Thanks. These are Blue Globe Thistles. They became a very popular plant in the gardens.

Have you ever watched League of Gentlemen , The Mighty Boosh or Drop the Dead Donkey? Those are worth looking into .

Thank you very much, I didn't know any of these shows. I liked the pot report and watched the first episode of the Dead Donkey. Very nice. Death is only psychosomatic :hysterical:

And the computers are very vintage.

That's what's so astounding. This show is timeless! I keep asking myself, how on earth did these chaps come up with stuff like this? I am just so thankful to have discovered this series.

I was watching TV the other day and I couldn't believe how contrived some of the 'current' comedy shows were. Give me comedy shows like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers  and Are You Being Served? (to name a few ;)) any day, over the stuff that's being shown on the telly today! :D

Yeah, how did they come up with stuff like that?  I started reading Michael Palin's Diary "The Python Years" twice and stopped reading twice.
The freedom they had at the BBC is unbelievable today. The frst series wasn't very sucessful. But Python were able to continue.

The last comedy show from England I watched was Omid Djalili, well, I laughed three or four times ...
I love The Big Bang Theory very much. It's the only show I'm watching on the telly.

Sketches like Dead Parrot, Hell's Grannies, Kilimanjaro Expedition and Bicycle Repairman are classics! :D I marvel at the sheer brilliance of this show! It is one of the greatest comedy series of all time, hands down! It indeed deserves it's own thread! :yesnod:

Apart from the ones you mentioned, here are more favourites of mine from series one:

I can honestly, watch this show for hours! My mom loves it too. I can't wait to get the DVD's for series 2, 3 and 4! :D

The Silly Job Interview is epic. C-a-C and Minehead by-election are also great. And how nice, that your mum likes Python too.
I haven't watched series 4 for a while, need to refresh my memories soon.

The sketches are almost 50 years old but the jokes are still working. Maybe the world changed a lot but silliness goes on :D

Welcome to the club, Kiwi. I wonder why there is no Python thread on the forum.
First season is full of favorites. Dead Parrot, Hells Grannies, Two Kilimajaros, Upper class twit of the year and on and on and on.
Maybe you like Bicycle Repairman as much as I do. It's hilarious.
