    A politician.

The Kennedy machine basically stole the 1960 election. Kennedy won the south by including LBJ on the ticket but it was close.  His decision to have the top off was basically to put himself out there and be "among the people" because every person is a potential vote.

You're right, Kennedy did steal the election as it was Illinois (Chicago) which put him over the top in one of the closest Presidential races in history. The ma nwho gave Chicago to Kennedy was Sam Giancana, head of the Chicago "Outfit."

Yes and during many recordings I’ve heard from The Doors you can hear Morrison wanting the lights to be turned down.  Security was definitely the reason then too.

"Hey, c'mon light-man, turn down the lights. Now I mean it, turn down the lights. Aww, who cares anyway." Jim Morrison.

I could have added the "you're all a bunch of fucking slaves" part but, everyone heard that.

Judging by the 1980 bootlegs, they had some very good (great?) shows and some not so good. Makes me think that if they hadn´t gotten back into it, maybe they never had. Robert was maybe ready to something else too, but they may have felt like they needed to tie up some loose ends. So to speak...

The loose ends they should have been concerned with were addressing Jimmy's, Bonzo's, & Grant's addictions first and foremost.

Yeah, but the most vapid crap like Agadoo and The Birdy Song outsold that by many millions.
That doesn't mean they're better, right?

Absolutely not, I was just pointing out it was a successful album, not that it was the greatest album or even Robert's best. Robert is a musician, that is his chosen craft and as a result he has full creative license to go in whatever direction he chooses. Shit or bust.

That's what makes a great artist great. Did every Miles Davis album warrant classic status? Nope, he put out some serous stinkers along with those masterpieces. Or how about Prince, one of my top five favorite musicians. Several must have classic albums plus several turds.

An artist can play it safe (Taylor Swift, Backstreet Boys, Kiss, Warrant, AC/DC) and just keep churning out the exact same album, arranged slightly differently, for each album, or, they can follow their creative muse and take chances. I prefer the latter but to each their own.

  5. What is the issue with the hate of Now & Zen and Tall Cool One in particular? I thought N&Z a great album of the time and TCO a catchy little tune with what I thought was a tongue in cheek nod to his past. Who cares if the production is dated, you can't get it right every time and for what its worth, the album went to #1 on the CD charts and charted at #6 in the US & #10 in the UK. Not too shabby. I also like how no two RP albums sound alike and N&Z was a huge departure from the artsy, New Wave inspired Shaken n' Stirred which is truly a great album both within and without it's time period.

Fact is, not every RP album is gonna be a Principal of Moments or Fate of Nations clone, nor should they be.

Or.....   not riding around in a convertible might have been an even better prophylactic measure.... don't ya think?

One does have to wonder if Kennedy had a death wish. The bubble top was supposed to be on the car but Kennedy insisted, against the protest of his detail, his wife, and Governor Connolly, and the top was removed. He was even informed of an assassination attempt in Chicago which was discovered but he still insisted on the removal of the bubble top. Now who in their right mind would do that?

How anything you post can be taken seriously is beyond me.

Really? This is the FBI & Warren Commission's own reports:

The FBI stated that three bullets were fired during the Kennedy assassination; the Warren Commission agreed with the FBI investigation that three shots were fired but disagreed with the FBI report on which shots hit Kennedy and which hit Governor Connally. The FBI report claimed that the first shot hit President Kennedy, the second shot hit Governor Connally, and the third shot hit President Kennedy in the head, killing him. In contrast, the Warren Commission concluded that one of the three shots missed, one of the shots hit President Kennedy and then struck Governor Connally, and a third shot struck President Kennedy in the head, killing him.

I have gone to the site of the assassination twice.

First, the easy factor is Range.  The range was, for all practical purposes, pretty low (less than 100 yards).  Many factors that go into a shot at a longer range were at this distance not statistically significant.  This includes bullet drop and wind drift, and shooting angle, along with more esoteric things like spin drift.

Against this, Oswald was taking shots at a moving target, with relatively little time to fire, and he fired a not so great gun three times in rapid succession. Let's remember those three shots.  To hit on his FIRST shot would have been a really good shot.  But he missed, adjusted, fired, got a decent hit, and then fired again for a head shot.

Many people remember the Warren commission's testing was unable to reproduce the shots, but this is misleading, as their testing was incomplete.  Oswald probably used the iron sights on the gun, rather than the telescopic sights. The iron sights would be easier to track a moving target with, and were more than adequate for that distance. Getting off three shots under those circumstances isn't trivial, but it's not HARD.  Assuming some practice time with the gun, and some rifle training, it's certainly doable.  Expert shooters have also suggested that he fired from a standing position, which would have made for an easier shot.

Oswald's outcome was, to some extent, lucky.  But it was within the range of reasonable expectation for someone of his ability, with that weapon.

Shot #1 was the most difficult shot of the three, as the target was directly beneath the window and moving from left to right. Oswald was in a standing position and the rifle was pointed almost straight down, with no fixed support. This was a very unnatural firing position, and not one that could be easily practiced. Not to mention the “buck fever” that Oswald surely felt as he squeezed off the first shot. It is no small wonder that the first shot missed entirely. In all likelihood, the first shot was deflected, either by a metal traffic light standard, or by branches of the live oak tree, but even without a deflection, this would have been a very challenging shot.

Shots #2 and #3 would have been much easier. Oswald had time to move to a seated position and take a deep, cleansing breath. The rifle stock was now supported by a box, providing far more stability. And once the car cleared the live oak tree, its path down Elm Street was directly away from Oswald’s window. His target would have been easy to keep in the crosshairs of the scope as the car would have appeared virtually motionless.

Shot #3 was about 80 yards, moving slowly, directly away from the muzzle of the rifle. Assuming the rifle was properly sighted in, the third shot would not have required Oswald’s USMC marksmanship to execute, but given the training he did receive in the USMC it was an easy kill shot.

WRONG! Of the three shots fired, the first hit Kennedy in the back exiting his neck. The second shot was a miss, and the third shot hit its target. This is proven beyond any doubt by sound analysis.

Fun Fact: Kennedy should have survived the assassination attempt but he was wearing not one but two corsets at the time. The first one was for his back issues, the second was due to a nasty social disease he acquired form one of his "ladies." It was the second corset which prevented him from slumping over after the first shot.

So, what actually killed Kennedy was his whoring around.

How the fuck did this turn into a comedy thread? It won't be funny when a serial killer meets your loved ones and you watch the system release him to the public on circumstantial evidence.

I don’t personally buy the “ Plant phoning it in” story line. Listen to his efforts in Zurich, Frankfurt, his comments in Brussels, Munich, dude was having fun.  Sometimes the audiences were difficult, or the venue lame, but on the balance Robert was engaged.

Who said Plant was "phoning it in?" Plant was professional insofar as most of the setlist was concerned but the lounge act renditions of STH show he was bored as do his stage comments. Yes, he was more professional in his approach then Relf but what I am saying is they were both coming from the same place by that time.

The Bonzo quote was either in jest, exhaustion, or due to his addictions as if he truly felt this way, you would never know it by his incredibly uninspired drumming throughout the tour.

That post strongly suggests you are merely a casual fan. The band had gone on artistic hiatus for nearly 18 months following the loss of Karac. Everything they themselves said about the tour, is positive. The tour itself was completely sold out.

If you say so Steve. Of course they were off for 18 months 77'-79' but that's not the point. The point is they were running out of creative steam and two band members were addicts.

Regarding what the band themselves thought of the tour, I thought it was a 50 / 50 split. Jones & Page looking at it as a new chapter and Bonham & Plant just wanting to be done with it. Shit, you can hear it in Robert's voice, in what he says at several gigs. He was pulling a Keith Relf 68' but instead of getting shitfaced and farting into the mike ala Relf he took the passive-aggressive route instead.

Plant was talked into the tour kinda like an old girlfriend begging her ex to give her one more shot. Then two weeks in and you know why you dumped her ass in the first place.

Yeah, 80' that tour had some big cracks, and technology still couldn't quite convince. Don't want to get any further, there are other threads detailing all this on the 80' tour. Although Robert's overall singing IMO on the 80' tour was hardly weak, but he was even onstage making comments or cryptic sayings about his weariness about singing some songs. Possibly the effects were used to prop up songs Robert no longer wanted to sing ??? Maybe not, but remember the cocktail lounge versions of SIBLY and unenthusiastic renderings of Stairway.

Robert was pushed into the tour, plain and simple. He did not want to be there. Bonzo was obviously not very into it as well.

As discussed ad nauseum, they should have gone on a multi-year hiatus after Knebworth (the show on the 11th should have convinced them of that), put out solo work, faced and overcome their demons etc. Instead they book a month long European tour no one was really interested in at the time.

One of the funniest lines in Jerry Seinfeld's 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' was when he had Norm McDonald on and they were talking about what if Norm did a similar format show to Jerry's car thing, and Norm said, "it would be called me alone by myself in my apartment eating Count Chocula--- who would want to watch that?"

Norm McDonald is one hell of a funny guy.

  16. What really puts a massive hole in the JFK lone gunman theory is there appears to be at least two Lee Harvey Oswalds. The accounting of "Oswalds" movements as put forth by the Warren Commission has serious problems as the Lee H Oswald who was arrested was nowhere near about hlaf of the places he was supposed to be however another Lee H Oswald was. The two men look similar in the face but other than that were very different. The one we know, the one who was arrested was about three inches taller, considerably leaner, and had a prominent scar by his left ear from a childhood surgery.

How long does Molofiy have to enter an appeal to the Supreme Court?

Malofiy said he's not giving up the legal battle because songwriters' rights are at risk.

"The next step is we'll appeal to the whole bench of the ninth circuit court or go directly to the supreme court," the attorney told Fox News. "It's not over. We have to bring this forward for songwriters' rights because the decision as it stands really aggregates the rights of songwriters and we just can't let this decision stand."

So this is pretty much Malofiy hurling insults and threats as he is forcibly being escorted from the room. The old, "I'am gonna kick your ass!!!" while being dragged away.

It's over blood sucker, move on.
