  1. Just so people don't think you're crazy, Mighty Zep, I recently spent a LONG time going through the "hot pictures of Robert" (there are over 100 pages!) section on this forum, and there are some photos where his eyes look brown, so I was wondering about the colored contacts too! I do assume his eyes are blue or hazel because in the vast majority of pics I've seen they look that way.

As for those of you who've gazed into his eyes in person, I'm turning GREEN.

His eyes are blue. Doubt he wears contacts as I've seen him either holding or wearing glasses.

  2. Could Robert be any goddam cuter? Are you sure the next pic was Palin (michael, not sarah-ye gads!)? Didn't look like him to me.

What picture are you referring to? All that came up was a comment from brspled from last year.

  3. I actually haven't read any Ginsberg. I must say, up until a few years back, I was fairly ignorant of him. The Beat era isn't really given much emphasis in the UK so I'm quite excited to learn about him.

I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on him. I have some friends who are much older than I and involved in the Beat scene - some great stories and a fascinating time.

  4. It's mainly English Lit, but we do (and will do) the works of American writers as well. Just thinking off the top of my head, I'll be doing Henry James, Philip K. Dick (the Do Android Dream Of Electric Sheep? author), Kate Chopin, T.S. Eliot and Allen Ginsberg (super excited about reading his stuff!), but I've done assignments on/learnt about Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Emily Dickinson, Louisa May Alcott and Alice Walker. There's probably a ton more but I can't think of them right now.

Some fantastic authors there! I've not read too much Ginsberg shameful as it is because the whole beat era is something I'm quite fascinated with. Have seen some good exhibits at museums on the times, Ginsberg of course prominently featured.

  5. Thank you very much :) It was a year dedicated to - wait for it - Creative Writing (and then Advanced Creative Writing). I did everything from poetry to film scripts to radio plays to short stories. I enjoyed it immensely and feel happy with what I've achieved, but I'm glad it's done. Now it's all about 19th and 20th Century Literature. This year's going to be a wee bit tougher.

I love creative writing. Sounds like an interesting year though - exploring many different areas like that, especially film scripts and radio plays! I would definitely say this year will be challenging - English Lit or American as well?

  6. My mom hadme light the grill tonight and I singed off part of my hair. I am so mad about it. My hair is like my favourite thing about myself. Not to be conceited but I just always loved my hair. It probably took off like an inch by the time I cut off the burnt parts. I'm glad it's curly because you can't really tell too much it just smells bad.

:console: I'm sorry - I've had that happen before. Thank goodness nothing else was burnt though.

  7. I passed my 2nd year at Uni. I was a few marks off a Distinction for my module results, but, on average, gained what would be the equivalent of a first class honours. I now have one more year to go. :D

    :thumbsup::cheer:

    Excellent news! Congratulations :D

  8. In the Plant book they do mention that there are some recordings (demos & live) floating around from before Zep-Band of Joy & maybe others-but they are probably bootlegs. If someone could clean them up and Robert (& the other musicians) would ok a release, it would be fun to hear!

If he doesn't want to do another Honeydrippers album, or work with Sonny, that's fine.

They are just things I'd be interested in, as a fan of Robert's! Maybe he hasn't worked with Sonny because it hasn't occurred to him to do it. That's part of the reason I mention it, in case somehow the idea would find its way to Robert (Sonny himself said he liked how I was thinking!) and he becomes interested. Very few people I've talked to know who Sonny is (or even Hiatt, believe it or not). Granted, Robert follows all kinds of music and has encyclopedic knowledge, but even he can't know EVERYONE.

There could be several reasons they haven't worked together, besides Robert not being interested. Such as both of them are always working on some project, or on tour, so they'd have to clear time for it and be available at the same time, and there would be travel involved for at least one of them (Sonny's based in Louisiana). At any rate, I don't see the harm in mentioning it, even more than once. If you have an idea that you'd like to see any members of Zep working on, I'd be interested in hearing about it. We're all here because we love Zep & we love music :)

I'd be willing to bet Robert knows who Sonny is ;) As you said, his knowledge of music is encyclopedic. I don't have any ideas on what I'd want the guys to work on. For me it's about what moves them. I just want and hope they keep working for a long time :)

  9. The night of Blueberry Hill. Dave Pegg took part in the drinking contest as well. He and Bonzo were mates, as both were part of the scene in the midlands in the 1960's.

Actually, Bonzo may have lost that contest. He was found the next morning lying naked, sleeping next to the hotel swimming pool. :(

The question about the jam with Fairport is what happened to it when Peter Grant died, because he had the tapes. Jimmy is likely to have them now, but may not be too pleased with them, as he was playing a borrowed guitar from Fairport, and it gave him some trouble.

Oops :o:lol: Great photo btw. Shame that Jimmy (assuming he has them which would make sense) won't release them - part of the greatness of those situations is the spontaneity of it all.

  10. I LOVE Moonlight in Samosa (those descending triads are amazing-he makes it sound so easy)

Someeone else had Young Boy Blues on their list-that is definitely my favorite track on the Honeydrippers cd.

Maybe we should change this to top 10 songs-5 is too hard!

I agree with Ahmet a 2nd Honeydrippers cd would be great, this time a longer album, because even the Nine Lives version is too short. And/or make a Priory of Brion cd available. I'd also love to get a cd from Robert's pre-Zep days. I know there were a couple tracks on 66 to Timbuktu, but I'd like a whole album. I'd prefer not to buy any bootlegs.

There were plans to do another Honeydrippers cd but Robert felt (and I agree) when Ahmet Ertegun passed, there was no point. As far as a cd of Robert's pre-zep days, there was never one. 66 to Timbuktu is an official release and has most of the songs on there which would be your best bet.

As far as Robert working with Sonny Landreth (which you have mentioned quite frequently) - I suspect if Robert was interested in that, he'd have pursued it. The fact he hasn't I would assume it's not a direction he wants to take at this time :)

  11. Hope I'm not interrupting but I just wanted to say that I feel for you ladies when health problems arise as you have all the other every day issues.

When I'm in the clinic getting my treatments I'm always thinking of the women old and young that are going through the same thing and having to deal with all the other things besides the chemo side effects.

I try to keep a positive attitude and bring a smile to the others around me and it really makes me feel good as well.

So good health to you all and keep a positive attitude.

    Charlie. :)

 That's really lovely mate. Your positive attitude and perserverance are really so inspiring and admirable. Cheers

  12. Thank you!! :D The flight will be about 2 hours long. Not too bad. The best thing about living near the Continent is the amount of cheap flights on offer. These cost less than £40 return. We're staying pretty much in between the Barri Gotic (the Gothic Quarter) and the harbour, so hopefully we'll get nice weather. Apparently, October is a rainy month for Barcelona.

I envy how easy it is for you to get to so many places! Take lots of pics :D

  13. hi aquamarine

yes i have been told by a few different people that excess soy can be a problem. a woman who owns a health food shop ( don't know if she has any qualifications or anything ), told me that soy products have something called phytoeostogens (sp ? ) and too much eostrogen can be a factor with breast cancer.

however, i just got the book " the wisdom of menopause " bydr christiane northrup. i first saw her on the oprah show. she says as long as you eat whole soy products, and not just supplements, they are highly beneficial to the body, and not just for menopause. she advocates consuming whole soy everyday.

thanks for dropping in, aquamarine. i am sorry for your family history too. my mother only had one sister, and she is alve and well at 75, never had a sick day in her life. and my grandmother lived till 82. my mother was a non - smoker, breast fed her kids, played sport .....etc etc. she was just one of those unlucky ones. :(

anyone else have an opinion on this ?

Not to lecture but PLEASE get a mammogram my friend :)

I think it's what your genes are predisposed to I would suspect. My aunt had breast cancer and a double mastectomy but she was a heavy smoker and when she went through menopause, back then she was put on really high doses of estrogen which I think they don't do or you're balanced out with progesteren - I'm not exactly sure how that is. I would say if you suspect you're entering menopause, see your gynocologist and discuss the different options.

Good idea for a thread Slave!

  14. I'm going to Barcelona with my boyfriend in October! Yeah boi! I'm super-duper excited about the trip, but slightly apprehensive about the flight. I'm not a good flyer.

:cheer: That sounds fantastic!!! A place on my list to visit some day. So happy for you. I would imagine it's not a long flight for you. I used to be a lousy flier but I've sort of gotten over it as I got used to it.

  15. Hmm, I didn't know soy products carried a risk of breast cancer, that's worrisome. (I have a big family history of it, too, and do the yearly mammogram, etc.) Especially as I drink soy milk every day.

Hey, was that Bong-Man I just saw?

There's been some studies that show soy products can increase your chances. If you eat soy, better to have it fermented - tempeh and seitan are good examples. I've spoken to nutritionists on this as I eat soy as well - they said a serving a day isn't excessive and you should be fine.

  16. Aaaaawww, c'mon! Not even the scene when they peed in the empty beer bottles, and the trooper stopped them and demanded "Gimme that booze, you pumpkin pie hair cutted freak!" ???

 Sorry mate :console: Didn't groove on it t'all!

Now Planes, Trains and Automobiles..... :D

Those aren't pillows....how 'bout the Bears this season :D
