  1. Me too, I love the Tilt-a-Whirl! I won't go on very many other ones, though...all those ones that are like the Dumbo ride at Disneyland, except the car (the actual would-be Dumbo part) spins upside down and around again itself. Ugh...makes me feel sick just thinking about it, lol I've been on one of those pirate ship things (this one was a Viking ship, hehe), but I sat in the middle. Yeah, the ends don't look like too much fun to me, either! I do like the "sleigh ride," though, that's just attached to a circular platform that goes around and around, first forward then backwards...that's even tamer than the tilt-a-whirl, but still pretty fun. No upside down spinning or crazy angles or other shenanigans. ;)

Are you talking about the ride called the Himalaya where they usually play really loud music? That's cool too. I won't go on anything that goes upside down, backwards or really fast  I'm a wuss ;)

  2. Lol, I made mooncakes by myself and they were not very rich and all eaten!

@nine: Moon festival is originally a family festival, I'm still in Germany and can't get back with my family though. My parents went to visit the grandparents and I had a short conversation with them all on the phone.

We invited loads of friends to our house to have dinner, and later we went out to watch the moon and the stars. One of the friends studies astronomy and showed us the constellations. The moon is so big and bright, it's a beautiful night.

Sounds like a lovely evening. I'm sorry you are away from your family but good you got to speak with them on the phone. I love astronomy.

  3. My sister and I just got back from the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem. Holy crap was that fun! I hadn't been on a Tilt-a-Whirl in about 15 years.

The only ride I hated was the Sea Ray. My sister dragged me on that one; it's a pirate ship that swings back and forth - of course she wanted to sit all the way in the back. Well, when it swung all the way up, our asses came up off the seat. I was scared shitless. I had to Lamaze breathing just to keep from passing out.

Otherwise I had one hell of a good time. :)

The Tilt-A-Whirl was my favorite ride as a kid! Loved it. I feel the same way about that pirate ship ride that swings back and forth :o No thanks

Sounds like a good day you had :)

  4. I was just wandering in the downtown section of my city here in Atlantic Canada. We have a street here called George Street, which has the second largest amount of pubs/club/bars on one street (other than Bourbon Street in New Orleans). Several time a year certain festival are held where the street is closed to traffic (pedestrians only) and drinking occurs on the street. I just happen to be there 2 weeks and there was a Bid Light Lime Festival where there were several bands playing, the most notable was THE TREWS (a band from Nova Scotia, Canada). Very good band and they put on a great show as usual (seen them 4 times already).

I saw the Trews in Austin a few years ago. Great band live!

  5. I will also recommend Live At The Old Quarter, the music is great. The feel of the album is very warm, and you'll be in treat to some fine jokes by him. I also have Our Mother the Mountain, and would highly recommend getting that one as well.

Thanks - I shall look into those as well :D

  6. my partner got a new car!

before you all go thinking i am one of those people that only care about material posessions .... it's not that at all.

what it means is that we will be able to be together more often and for longer, that his travel time drops from over 2 hours to just 1. we live a little way apart, and him having a car will make things much easier for us.

it's also one step closer to us being able to live together.

    i am so happy!!!

:cheer: I'm happy for you too!!!

  7. Hi Ninelives smile.gif ,

That house is the quintessence of Frank Lloyd Wright design.

The house has been exquisitely restored, with a magnificent interior and gardens.

If you click on some of the links at the bottom of the wiki link that I posted, you can see pictures of the restoration.

And check out this link from the Westcott House Foundation. If you explore it, you can see more photos of the house.

    Edited to say:

I have visited Wright's Taliesan West in Phoenix. It was beautiful, but I believe that I liked the Westcott House better. Also, the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York City has a complete room from a Frank Lloyd Wright house assembled in one of the galleries. It is lovely. If you ever go to the Met, make it a point to visit it. It is in an out of way, hard to find place. Just ask one of the docents there and they will direct you to it.

The photos are wonderful! I can see why you'd like the Westcott House better. Lucky you live near enough to be able to see it :)

  8. I thought it was available to view online for free at some site like Hulu but I was thinking of Before the Music Dies (another great doc). It's certainly worth the rental though. Better yet, you might even be able to find it used somewhere,

Agreed. I don't have a ton of Townes myself but most fans recommend starting with Live At Old Quarter. I do have that one and love it. This is also a good one:

I'll look around to see if I can rent it somewhere or maybe view online. The only Townes I have is Legend which is a 2 cd best of. I thought it was a good place to start but I will check out the two you recommended, especially the live one.

Another great offering from Mr. Clark. Highly recommended to anyone that's a fan of the songwriting style of Townes, Steve Earle, John Prine, etc.

Good to know - I've heard of him but not heard his music and I'm a huge Townes and Earle fan. John Prine too though not as familiar with his work as the others.
