  1. It does qualify because SteveAJones posted a picture on this thread of the porn star in question as his 'girlfriend'.

"My girlfriend" was in parentheses - quite possibly he was being facetious.

Either way, the girl is hawt.

Half the Hollywood sluts in this thread screw as much as porn stars anyway, so what's the point?

  2. Saw The Cult Friday night (12 Nov 2010) in Atlanta.

Great show, but I was super-impressed by their opening band The Black Ryder

The band consisted of three guys and two girls.

They played about 6 or 7 songs, and every one of them were genuinely awesome.

They had a heavy Tool vibe, and at times had a brutal groove that sounded somewhere between middle-eastern and some kind of cajun/swamp blues.

I was completely blown away, as I was hardly expecting the opening band to even be noticeable, much less really, really good.

I would definitely go see them if they were playing anywhere near.

    They played REALLY well live.

Unless I'm mistaken, it appeared the guitarist was using a loop station to create multiple tracks on the spot, which was pretty awesome and lent to the depth of their overall sound - very full.

The drummer was very good, and at times had a bit of a When The Levee Breaks type of vibe, which, in my opinion, is not a bad vibe to have.

If you hear of them playing in your area, you won't be disappointed by seeing them.

That is, if you like fairly heavy stuff with a lot of groove.

This is the bluesy track I was referring to.

It was a lot longer live.

The sound quality isn't spectacular on this, but it's not bad.

  3. OK, I must preface this with the following...

Whenever I see a preview/trailer for what looks to be a good movie, I'm all "Oh, I have GOT to see that when it comes out!"

Well, the truth is, unless it's a truly epic release (Avatar. etc.), what that usually ends up meaning is "I have GOT to see that when it comes out on PPV / OnDemand!"

Bottom line, I rarely get to the theater, it's just so expensive for a family of 5.

Anyway, The Hangover was one such "I've GOT to see that" movie.

So I finally got to see it about a month ago, and now it's on regular HBO and HBO OnDemand so I can watch it whenever I want.

Seriously, that's one of the funniest movies I have EVER seen.

And I keep watching it over and over, because there are so many nuances (the characters' reactions to each other, etc.) that you really can't completely pick up on just a single viewing.

Am I alone on this, or do some of you enjoy watching movies multiple times?

It's similar to a good book that I can re-read.

    But back to The Hangover.

It is such an epic movie I think because that's how a lot of guys envision partying.

Not specifically step-for-step like the movie, but just the idea of there being all kind of insanely random and unusual results of partying so hard and wild.

And despite being so outrageous, it still has an odd sense of believability.

Seriously, how can you look at this picture and not laugh imagining what could possibly lead up to it?

    the-hangover-724705376.jpg

Easily one of the very funniest movies I've ever seen.

    Anyone else?

  4. I have really been feeling this band I was just turned on to - Pure Reason Revolution.

I've been jamming their 2006 release The Dark Third - incredible.

A couple choice cuts from that album...

This is Deus Ex Machina from their 2009 album Amor Vincit Omnia.

    This has a wicked breakdown @ 3:10

  5. OK, how cool is this?

We get close to the venue a couple hours early so we could stop somewhere to eat/drink.

There's tons of places all around - Chili's, Applebee's, etc.

The guy driving randomly points at a place called Champs - sports bar-type place.

    So we're like - "cool!"

As we get out of the car, a guy's coming up to us saying "are y'all going to the show?"

    Yes, we are.

He says, "we've got the area in the back, they're playing Rush and everything!"

Turns out, it was a meetup for some Rush forum - ended up being like 100 people hanging out before the show!

One guy had been to 16 shows on this tour!

All in all, pretty cool way to kick off the evening!

  6. Well, we were at the September 29 show in the ATL (OK, Alpharetta), and, as usual, Rush DID NOT disappoint.

When I saw the first leg of the Snakes and Arrows tour, I commented that the only possible thing that could have made it better was if they had played 2112.

When I saw the second leg of the same tour, they played 2112 (Temples of Syrinx).

So, heading to this show, I said the only thing that would make it better now would be to hear Working Man.

    You guessed it...

and when they took off into Working Man I thought my head was gonna asplode!

And now for the requisite shitty phonecam pics...

We were in the 18th row - most excellent seats!

    Ditto.

I have no idea who this guy is. lulz.

The stage setup had a retro/throwback motif, even the big screen.

Sorry folks, both pics are chopped.

The hands are completely different in each pic.

The paint pic hands are much younger, while the pink top pic hands are older/more veiny.

Also, the right side of the glasses in both are giveaways, and commonly overlooked when chopping pics - the background through the lens is different from the actual background on both.

The paint pic there is very deep shadow from the flash to the left and back, yet through the lens of her glasses it's light.

The pink top pic is similar - her hair is hanging down creating a dark area, but through the lens of her glasses it's light.

There are also a number of blurred areas around her face where the clone tool was used to blend the composited face to the existing head.

Great rack on both, though, amirite?

And that crocheted top is knee-weakeningly hot.

  8. Been on a Dune kick.

Over the past 5 or 6 weeks, I (in order) re-read Heretics of Dune (5th of original 6 books) and Chapterhouse: Dune (6th of original 6 books).

Went looking for Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune (written by Frank Herbert's son, Brian Herbert, supposedly finishing the story after Frank Herbert's death).

Couldn't find them, so I re-read God-Emperor of Dune (4th of original 6 books) and then Dune Messiah (2nd of original 6 books).

Decided to get Hunters and Sandworms from the library, suffered through them both, and now re-reading Children of Dune (3rd of original 6 books) to "cleanse my palate" after the horrible aftertaste that Brian Herbert left.

For true fans, the crap Brian Herbert has written is shamefully pathetic and unbearably disappointing.

It's depressing to even think about.

And yes, if you followed all that, I have re-read all but the original/first book of the series, Dune itself.

I'm sure I'll reach for it at some point in the next couple days as soon as I finish Children of Dune.

  9. I will see Rush in concert 3 days before you in Dallas, Texas. I have lawn seats, however, for the last two shows I have seen at the Dallas 'SuperPages' amphitheater (AeroSmith and Def Leppard), I "bribed" an usher ($10) to let me and my brother sit in one of the empty seats in the last rows of the seating area. Once the usher wasn't looking we moved to seats that were about right smack in the middle of the seating area. I can't say what row we ended up in, however, it sure as hell beat the lawn "seats" we had at the beginning of both of those shows. I plan to do the same thing for the Rush concert, but I think I may have to Up the bribe to $20. Anyway, Rush is probably my second favorite band of All-Time so I KNOW that I am destined to have a Fucking Great and Awesome time.

    NICE!

I got an update on out seating: we're in the 18th row, but still nearly dead-center.

Little farther back than I was thinking, but still what I would consider killer spots.

When we saw Judas Priest last year we were in about the same spot, I think somewhere between 15 and 20 rows from stage.

But if they had shot a laser out from the mic stand, it would have gone right between our seats.

Literally the best seats I ever remember having for a big show.

So yeah, I'm pretty geek'd about the 29th!

  10. Going to see Rush tomorrow night at Columbus' Nationwide Arena.

I am more than ready for this concert! I have been listening to Rush non-stop for the last two weeks!

I hear that they are playing the entire "Moving Pictures" album, one of my favorites from them.

I wonder if they will have any dryers on stage?

I don't want to read any reviews of this tour as I want to be surprised by the concert and experience it without any expectations.

I love Geddy's voice, and it will be interesting to see how it has held out after all of these years.

Yeah, it's the Time Machine Tour.

I'll see it in Alpharetta, GA (above Atlanta) September 29.

We got seats dead center about 8 or 9 rows back.

    I took off work the 29th & 30th.

    I anticipate an epic show.

We saw both legs of the Snakes and Arrows Tour, and suffice it to say, Rush gives you your money's worth.

    28 songs with an intermission.

    Oh yeah.

  11. Hey Walter, none of their albums are bad, sure one or two may be less great then their best, but I recomend checking out their whole catalog. After all, they only did five studio albums and a live album. Even the outtakes albums, such as "First And Last" and "Ledgends" are worth seeking out. I'd say you're in for a treat if you haven't heard all of their stuff.

    yeahthat.gif

    seconded.

  12. This is too ironic that I just put my self-made LS greatest hits disc in my vehicle this past weekend and now this thread resurfaced - great stuff!!

    I did the same thing!

    Mine is as follows:

    Tuesday's Gone

    Simple Man

    Things Goin' On

    Mississippi Kid

    I Need You

    Don't Ask Me No Questions

    Workin' For MCA

    Needle And The Spoon

    Saturday Night Special

    On The Hunt

    Gimme back My Bullets

    That Smell

    One More Time

    I Know A Little

    You Got That Right

As far as favorite "obscure" cuts, hard to call ANYthing off the first 2 obscure, but cuts that didn't get quite as heavy play as songs like Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama that I really love include:

    Mississippi Kid

    I Need You

    Needle And The Spoon

    On The Hunt

    I Never Dreamed.

Putting Skynyrd into heavy rotation reminded me of a few things, most notable to me is -

Street Survivors is an incredible album.

They're all good, and the first 2 are legendary.

But Street Survivors is right up there - especially the first 6 songs in a row:

    1. What's Your Name

    2. That Smell

    3. One More Time

    4. I Know A Little

    5. You Got That Right

    6. I Never Dreamed

I remember rolling to school each morning smoking weed with That Smell blasting through the Craig PowerPlay 8-track.

I've been playing some of these songs for my 16 year-old son.

He was familiar with the cliche'/joke of people yelling Free Bird at a concert, but had never heard it from One More from The Road, so I called him in and gave him the back story about the Fox Theater and Skynyrd's 3-night stand.

I found myself feeling really proud that something that epic happened while I was growing up, and being a fan of them while they were around.

I guess it's similar to the way I feel about Zeppelin.

  13. Well, they really doesn't compete in my preferences either..

I'm sorry you missed them. They sure have a great reputation for have been an awesome live act. I have only seen the tribute band, which was great (then), but not by a mile near the original band I can imagine.

Yes, I DID see them in 2000, I've always loved Ricky Medlocke!

Pat Travers was the opening act, who I've always loved as well.

In 1979, I saw a band that did a Skynyrd tribute at a club.

The first set they just played regular covers.

But after the break, they came out dressed in jeans, t-shirts and all, and then you realized they actually LOOKED like Skynyrd!

The singer came out barefoot wearing hat just like RVZ carrying a bottle of Jack Daniels on his shoulder.

It was pretty kickass for a local club.

All this Lynyrd Skynyrd discussion inspired me to jam my Skynyrd playlist all day at work! icon14.gif
