How's it going "johnthomasmoby?" I am truly glad that I have all of you around to correct me when I f*c* up and this is truly one of them on my part. I owe both you and "danelectro" a great deal of gratitude for reminding me about FANNY and BERTHA. I have TOTALLY forgotten about them. There are so many bands and very few brain cells or as Robert Plant once said: "Give or take a brain cell!" I guess that I'm going to have to write a thread on them in the future. Thanks again for the reminder. ROCK ON!
No f**k up on your part ZeppFanForever. The memory banks deepen as we all get older and sometimes you have to dive a little deeper to retrive those old memories...Like it came to me earlier on today that the Bertha LP I heard way back when was called "Bertha - Has Balls" ..... As for Fanny i think..but not sure that they supported the Stones at some point......Now that could be a false memory... but who knows ?
-
Good write up ZeppFanForever but have you forgotten 2 all girl rock bands from the early 70s ........... Fanny and Bertha...........I can't remember much about them though, maybe someone else can ?

I got the Live at Kilburn DVD as an xmas present off one of my sons...i would normaly have bought it the day it was released......But knowing that Dave would have a problem choosing me a present i chose to take the gamble that this was what he would get me. Well the gamble paid off..........It was well worth the wait. The Kilburn show is awesome with Townshend at his firey angry petulant best acting like a real twat at times particularly towards the end of My Wife where he loses his rag completely, really funny..Go 'ead Pete..let it out...... And the Coliseum performance on The second disc..well that is pure magic......Every WHO fan needs this set.

I suppose I should elaborate, I'm not implying PF are an electronica band. To my ears it sounds like some of the effects they use came before the music, as in they made that more important than developing the bones of the songs. That's why I don't like some of their work, like Dark Side, I don't think the riffs in a song are like Money are all that interesting on it's own. It takes the background stuff to make it somewhat interesting, as in if stripped that away there isn't much left. Like I said it's my opinion not a fact, re-read what I wrote, I stated clearly it's how I interpret it not a fact.
Waffle...... You have it all wrong.......basicaly, you don't know what you're talking about.
-
Eh I don't know that I'd go that far. If I had to sum up PF my personal opinion would be they had what it took to write a good stripped back song, Wish You Were Here is a decent song. But I feel they relied on synths, filters and other electronic gadgetry to a fault when a few simple notes or chords could\would have been a better choice. It's not a good thing or bad thing and it was an essential part of their style. I feel if you stripped all of the sonic "tricks" away much of their stuff is musically stagnant, like the song is secondary to electronic blips. What others see as a form of expression I see as a crutch.
Synths ? DSOTMs On The Run and WYWHs. Welcome To The Machine maybe. Are you sure you're not thinking about Kraftwerk ?

Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash
Chinese Democracy - G 'n' R.

Next to Duane Allman, I can't think of anyone of that generation who played a better slide guitar.
What about Ry Cooder......and Ronnie Wood........
