  1. No real argument could be made that any of the musicans in the band were among the most technically skilled in their craft. Waters could barely play bass, and there are no odd time signature drum freakouts. Gilmour was a fine guitarist, but he isn't in the same league as Hendrix or Page, barring personal preference. Rick Wright was by far and away the most technically skilled musician in the band.

Pink Floyd did more with their small amount musical expertise than any band ever, but made some of the most complex sounding mainstream music, ever.

Anybody that says they are a one trick pony or that DSOTM or WYWH is their best needs to listen to a bit more of their catalog. Give me Meddle and Animals over either of those anyday, with Obscured by Clouds tossed right in there with them.

    Absolutely spot on.

  2. people get sucked in by the media's presentation of things

*pink floyd in the album chart for 10 years*

hey they must be good lets go buy it.

they also used one of the cheapest tricks in the book - lyrics containing profanity.

it's an early version of what gangster rappers do today.

all impressionable kids love a bit of rebellion .

*bus stop rat bag - you fucked up old hag*

laughable lyrics and a cheap marketing ploy - but hat's off to them

    it worked wonders

You don't 'alf come out with some right shite, La.........................

  3. I'm not a big PF fan so I don't see the attraction. They did some things I enjoy but most of it I can do without. I do think they get too much credit for their synth use, many think PF singlehandedly pioneered it but there were others. I own Meddle and I like that era but anything before Saucer and after Dark Side doesn't appeal to me. Even though they were at the front of the movement when things started getting psychedelic and avant-garde I don't feel they made the important strides bands like Velvet Underground, Moby Grape and Zappa made.

Moby Grape, important....Yer 'avin a laugh.

  4. you misunderstood me

the only comparison is the phenomenal success they both enjoyed

WHAT !!!!!!!............You said Pink Floyd were the most overrated band ever ...... So what the F**k are you on about.

  5. it amazes me how they are consistently put up there with Zeppelin as one of the greatest bands in history.

I really can't see how you can compre Floyd to Zeppelin......Their musical styles are completely different.......Both are outstanding in their own field, I like both equally......Different music for different moods............The only point That i agree with you on is the 2 post Final Cut albums (Momentary Lapse & Division Bell) I consider both of those to be Gilmour solo albums, lyricaly and musicaly inferior to anything that came before...........As for Roger Waters solo albums, they are all stunningly brilliant.

  6. it's a sign of a perverted mind!

like i said - take his name off the s.o register if he is innocent, until then i fail to see any argument in his favour!

More like the curiosity of a confused mind looking for answers. Wrong maybe, but a pervert...I think not.

  7. i cant help feeling he got off lightly with his *just doing research* excuse - i mean come on!!!

So you think he was doing it for a knuckle shuffle then... From the 100s of thousands of people that paid to see The WHO over the past few years, I'd say you are in the minority...... Most people will accept that PT just made a mistake, was maybe foolish, in looking at, not downloading a small number unacceptable images.

  8. How's it going "lucyinthe sky" with diamonds as well as our fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? Three days until Halloween! Are all of you aware that the VH-1 Classic channel is showing THE WHO at the Isle Of Wight Festival as well as other WHO performances on Wholloween night?

Ok, enough of that. Its time to talk about HENDRIX. I love the "Blues" album as well as the "South Saturn Delta," "Voodoo Soup" and "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" albums. All of these albums RULE!

Are all of you HENDRIX fans out there aware of this TRUE STORY? It involves the acoustic song "Hear My Train Comin'" that was performed on film by himself. Here's what happened. It was during the "Are You Experienced" photo sessions that the photographer was taking photos of Jimi with the original Experience (Noel Redding and mitch mitchell). After the photo sessions ended, the photographer dismissed the Experience except Jimi. The photographer wanted to take photos of Jimi by himself. When the photographer and Jimi were alone, the photographer gave Jimi a Twelve string acoustic guitar already strung for a left handed guitarist. Jimi looked at the Twelve string acoustic guitar a little intimidated especially since Jimi had NEVER played a Twelve string guitar in his whole life. While the cameras were rolling, Jimi started to play the beginning chords of "Hear My Train Comin'" for the first time on a Twelve string acoustic guitar but then messed up a little bit since he was getting a feel for the Twelve string and apologized to the cameraman telling him that he was going to start all over again. When Jimi started to play again the second time, he ruled and played all over the Twelve string acoustic guitar like he had been playing it for years. This is one of the MANY reasons why Jimi IS, and always will be, THE GREATEST GUITARIST THAT EVER PICKED UP THE INSTRUMENT! How can a man just pick up a Twelve string acoustic guitar for the first time and master it in a few seconds? THIS IS A TRUE STORY! ROCK ON!

Well Hendrix was a guitarist and a 12 string is just another guitar, so no suprises there.
