  1. I'm actually going shopping for albums by The Who tomorrow. I have decided to ignore my total distaste of them smashing instruments and focus on just the music. Still not sure about it all, but I might as well dip a toe in the water.

Well, don't get "The Kids are Alright", then. I remember one of the best songs ends with an extremely long smashing session, which had me running to the turntable to lift the needle!

  2. The dissolution of the USSR and the Eastern Bloc allowed all those Russian and Eastern European countries to finally import their goods to the U.S. I cannot vouch for where jimmie ray lives, but I can tell you that from 1991 or 1992 onward, the floodgates really opened here and every liquor market and bar in Los Angeles was filled with all of these beers from Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Romania, etc...all with consonant-heavy names or impossible to decipher Cyrillic script.

Some were pretty good but others were nothing more than the Eastern Bloc equivalent of Budweiser or Lucky Lager. Cheap but rather blah tasting.

The Polish lagers I've had were not worthwhile. The Polish Bock, Zyweic, I mentioned is absolute top notch, at an amazing price. Even the lacing on the glass is beautiful.

  3. This Polish Bock beer is so perfect - not just for the taste, but the best bargain I've ever found at $1.50 a 18 ounce bottle. Not as thick and molasses consistency as other Euro Bocks, but very sweet. Seems to be a Polish beer invasion going on locally, as the beer distributor has a whole section for these and Tyskie - even the gas station and supermarket are now carrying them. Can't speak so much for the other Polish brands and styles, but this one is a winner!

Edit: aaaand once again, the image I copied and pasted here disappears when I submit it. The brand is Zyweic.

  4. What type of marinade do they use and how thick are the cuts?

I like the Bourbon and Teriyaki marinates. There's another one, "Steakhouse" or something like that, which is too peppery. The packages are usually 2 pounds, and have 2 tenderloins in them. About 3" thick, and a foot long. Definitely feeds 2. Leftovers make great sandwiches, also. I found these at Stop and Shop.

  5. Sorry about that, I frequently have issues with posting pictures or quoting people - the administration says it's probably the server the pc is on.

It's a Frierich product - comes vacuum packed, so the expiration can be weeks away. Comes in handy for a grilling choice when no plans were made.

Normally, I do everything fresh and from scratch, too. But I noticed many people here get takeout or prepared foods - so I thought this would be appealing.

I already have two co-workers who can't find this at their store, so I've been buying these for them.

  6. If you can find this at your grocery store, I highly recommend it. I've been frustrated at the high price and toughness of steaks lately - but these marinated beef tenderloins are all juicy, flavorful, and $7.50 a pound. Also comes in Teriyaki flavor - Great on the BBQ!

  7. ^ Probably someone here could correlate the date of Plant's picture with the time of his son being hospitalized? But it's obviously a sexual slogan, and would be poor choice of Plant to thank them in this manner - or worse, have had relations with one of the nurses who cared for his son.

  8. IIRC, this Star Trek episode was inspired by the flower child movement of the Sixties.  The brunette female in the background was an old flame of Mr. Chekhov.  The fact that I remember this stuff is proof positive that I spent way too much time watching Star Trek reruns in my youth.

I seem to remember it as one of the rare reruns of the show. Spock also jammed on the Vulcan Harp.

  9. ^ Sorry, my man - but I still stand by my assessment. I would love to see Les covering or guest with any other group, but the original stuff does not grab me at all. I had the chance to see him with Warren Haynes in Virginia, a few years ago, but passed as I was visiting my mom. She's in her late 80's, but we listen to music together and have gone to shows, also. I had a feeling this would not be a good one for her, although she frequents that local theater. When I checked You-Tube for what they did in that show - OMG, she would have hit me over the head with her purse, if I had taken her!

  10. Really? If you don't mind me asking, what tracks have you tried?

Keep in mind I'm not a You-Tube fanatic, nor does the local radio play a diverse sampling of what's out there. But from this forum, I've looked into Oysterhead, stuff with Warren Haynes, Buckethead, live Primus... It all seemed similar, and imitative of farting noises (sorry, you asked). But when I heard him with Ozzy, doing N.I.B. - wow!

  11. I'd like to see him play everywhere solo. The Eagles are great but he has more to offer on his own than in his limited role in the Eagles.

He occasionally reunites with the James Band, or at least used to. Hard to beat that!

  12. ^ Seems most Octoberfest's are available year round, these days. I can certainly drink them any day. One that I haven't seen in decades is Hacker-Pschorr, from Munich. But I still remember it being the tops. Sierra Nevada now makes one - it's one of the better U.S. brewed attempts at this style, and has a higher ABV than most. But there's a bunch of brands to stay away from - number one being Leinenkugels.
