  1. The idea of two of the greatest improvisers on guitar and bass playing together sounds so intriguing - until you actually hear it. Other than Cream (and sorry, JPP), how many groups have been successful in putting out music that really grabs you - with both a top tier guitarist and bassist?

  2. I was somewhat suprised to learn this - but Shandy style beer is actually popular in some areas of Germany. They are referred to as "Biermischgettranke". For my friend Cornelius, I recommend the Whizz Peach, from Wilhelm Rummel Brewery.

  3. "Wrath of Khan" was definitely the best Star Trek movie, for the reason you gave. I remember being so disappointed with the first movie - when the camera angle didn't tilt and all the deck members didn't tumble around during attacks or warp drive scenes.

  4. I don't watch TV anymore, but did when I was kid in the 60's - 70's. Most of these older shows you guys listed, we still play on kazoos and slide whistles, obviously after drinking and usually around a fire pit. I even have a recording of "Sanford and Son", with myself on harmonica. Some are good bongo songs, too - like "Hawaii Five-0" and "Batman". Really, who needs TV to entertain themselves, anyway?

  5. ^ I'm not a movie buff, nor did I care for much of the Star Wars storyline, goofball scenes, and cutesy characters. Definitely lost any interest, back when these Ewoks were brought into it. BUT, as I remember watching the first movie at a family get-together out of state - I've never seen such audience enthusiasm and reaction to any other movie. The oooohs and aaaahs, booing Darth Vadar when he appeared, cheering the ending...

  6. The OLD Raiders were a big reason I got hooked on football, especially with our local teams being unwatchable at that time. One of the first Monday night games I ever watched, the kicker on the opposing team was blocked and knocked down, a Raider scooped it up and ran it back for a TD - and just for good measure about three other Raiders stomped on his face and chest as they ran over him. I turned to the friend who invited me over, and thanked him endlessly - for introducing me to such great theater!

  7. ^ Al, you would have liked the "DeadTunaBand" - who covered The Dead, Hot Tuna, and The Band. Unfortunately, they're not together anymore. Jeff, their bassist now plays for "Reckoning". Hot Tuna is still a great band to see - especially if it's just Jorma and Jack, doing acoustic sets. I don't think their shows are as good, when the get a lot of guest musicians on stage with them - it ruins their chemistry, and Jack definitely turns his volume down.

  8. ^ Hey, Al - it looks like you live on Long Island? Have you checked out the numerous Dead cover bands that are local? Toomeys on the dock in Amityville is always having outdoor shows, for a small cover charge, lately. Tanner Park on the bay in Copiague is having a big, free show with "Half Step" on the lawn on 7/29. The Great South Bay Music Fest in Patchogue, next weekend features the cover band "Reckoning", as well as New Riders of the Purple Sage and my favorite - Hot Tuna.
