Nice to meet you all. My name is "zoso_ledzep4_yy" from Japan. I apologize for writing using Google Translate.

It is the second half of the Dutch newspaper article, but there is a description of “Wanton Song”, “Custard Pie” and “MOBY DICK”. Rotterdam, HollandNLAhoy, which is the warm-up of the 1975 North American tour, seems to have played “Custard Pie” only on this day.

The Dutch translation for this part is: "By the way, it was very promising that the songs Wanting song(reporter's error) and Custard pie performed on this album were the least annoying of the entire performance. (MOBY DICK has a dry review of "Bedtime").

We are waiting for the sound source information of this day. Thank you very much.

There's a draft setlist handwritten by Jimmy which included Custard Pie as well:

Rock and Roll ~ Sick Again, Levee, Song Remains the Same ~ Rain Song, Kashmir, Wanton Song, Dazed, Custard Pie, No Quarter, Black Dog, In My Time of Dying, Stairway, Trampled Underfoot

Thanks for the information.
Do you mean this?

On the paper, there is "1977set list" in the upper left, but this is Jimmy's misunderstanding, isn't it?

The song order is different from Brussels the next day, but it may be possible that it was played in Rotterdam in this handwritten list order.

Rotterdam on January 11, 1975 was on the top page at jimmypage.com on January 11th, but the order of the songs on this day is completely different.

Which is correct, Jimmy's handwritten list or the list on the official website?
I would be happy if I could find the sound source.

JP's handwritten setlist is from the warm-up dates in Jan. '75. (error in his book listed as '77) as a draft list of songs which likely changed.  It was written on the back page of his travel itinerary and flight info for Rotterdam & Brussels.  I believe Custard Pie was played in Rotterdam, though until there is a recording available, the exact setlist is unknown.

Sam, thank you very much.

“an early draft of a 1977(1975 is right) set list ,planned very much with guitar changes in mind.”

If you look closely, you can see that it was written as an early draft of the 1975 set list.

This handwritten list was only written as a candidate for the songs scheduled for the 1975 North American tour.

“When I arrived in Minneapolis (for the opening rehearsal of the 1975 North American tour), I stepped into a place that looked like an ice hockey stadium, and there were LZ members on stage. They were doing 'Custard Pie' at the time, I think they were playing 'Wanton Song' too, don't ask me how I remember that."

LZ's official cameraman "Neal Preston" said, "Don't ask me why I remember that." However, “Custard Pie” was not performed at the actual performance because it was only rehearsed on this day.

“We record the whole show every time so it's nice to be able to listen to the tape after it's over. Especially when it comes to my drum solos. (1975 Bonzo)”

I may not have Jimmy's memory, but I think that the record remains, so I would like to wait for new excavations.

I always thought that Custard Pie would make a great live set song. Be nice to actually hear some aural evidence that it was played on stage, if only the once.

I agree.  It could have been the opener in 1975, or maybe Wanton Song as the opener.  By 1975 Rock and Roll was worn out, and Plant couldn't sing it any better than he could sing Wanton Song or Custard Pie.  Now some may think you can't open a show with a new song, but in summer 1970 they were opening with the unreleased Immigrant Song.

One thing Custard Pie would lack live would be the funky Clavinet parts.  So cool.  Or maybe he could have played bass pedals?  The problem then would be a quick transition to a second song with no instrument changes.  So after all, maybe Wanton Song as the opener?

Custard Pie is as raunchy as Wanton Song.  I can still remember in high school in 1975 they let kids play albums in the cafeteria during lunch.  Of course the "popular" kids always controlled the tunes.   There was a lot of good stuff, and one day they blasted Custard PIe right after Graffiti came out.  There were the cheerleader types up front dancing to Custard Pie in their high heeled clunky platform 1975 shoes with either short skirts or hot pants, or long slacks with the oversized flares from back then, and bare midriff tops.   A wild scene.  I think one time after Custard Pie, Tush was the next song.

Photographer Neil Preston, looking back at rehearsals in Minneapolis on the first day of the North American tour, testified as follows.

I immediately pulled out my camera and snapped the shutter.

I still remember it. I think they were playing Custard Pie, and I think they were playing The Wanton Song. Don't ask me how I remember that.

I think Neil took pictures and has the rehearsal recordings, don't you?

Robert couldn't sing the custard pie after playing it at rehearsal on the first day of the North American tour since Rotterdam, but didn't try it that day at the show? Couldn't get the groove of the record with Jonesy's clavinet + pedal bass or bass only? Either of these reasons may be the reason.

In any case, I'd like to see the Rotterdam soundtrack become available.
