I also forgot to mention Gary Clarke, Jr., whose band can play circles around GVF. His new album rocks.

He's great live as I saw him at the Cap in Portchester NY last September. Even better as I talked with him for a few minutes after the show as he was hanging out by his bus afterwards. Very cool guy and down to earth. My brother and I were in the bar (Garcia's after the show. Named after Jerry). My brother left. I was walking back to the train station and I saw him by his bus with a few fans. Nice timing.

    Damn. This one hurts.

Talk Talk pulled off one of the most remarkable 180° turns in music with their latter-day classics "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock". I had always held out hope for a Talk Talk reunion or at least another Mark Hollis tour.

Now, that wish is impossible. NME is reporting Mark Hollis has died at age 64.

That's too bad. I enjoyed a number of their songs during the early to mid 80's.

  3. I'm not a big fan of The Grammys but this is quite cool and glad the band is getting some acknowledgement for their music.  This is just for the two EP compilation of "From The Fires" and not for their debut album "Anthem of the Peaceful Army."  Not eligible yet as I think the period runs through September and album was released in October.  Perhaps, next year!

It took more than 30 years after Led Zeppelin disbanded for them to win their first one for "Celebration Day"  (excluding the lifetime award) and why these awards are such a joke!  But, will take it for GVF.  They are great live and see them if you like them as now may be one of the last times they will be playing the smaller venues.

  4. Greta Van Fleet at Terminal 5 in NYC, two days ago.  Played three shows there.  All sell outs.  That's 9,000 seats.  Great show and the boys can play.  Crowd was really into them.  Perhaps, the last time they play a smaller venue in the NYC area for some time.  Next up in this area is Forest Hills Stadium in May.

  5. I got GVF tickets for May 25th in Queens NY at Forest Hills Stadium.  The former site of U.S. Open.  I have GA seats.

Also this Friday I will be seeing Elton John on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.  Surprisingly, I have never seen him before.  Looking quite forward to the show as there are five of us going.

I lucked out with the tix when they went on sale as I kept trying and try and nothing came up.  I had given up and gave it a another try and scored some very good seats on the side in section 115 at MSG.  I think someone gave them up and I just lucked out getting them.  This happened a good 30 minutes or so after they went on sale!

If you haven't watched the complete 1968 Comeback Special, you should.

That's a classic and I have the expanded dvd version which is amazing.  One of the greatest vocal performances ever by anyone with his "If I Can Dream."  Just incredible.  I love his live performances and have a lot of the dvds and cds.  Even the one from his last show is amazing even with the condition he was in.  Watching him play piano and sing "Unchained Melody" is another highlight and one of his best.  Check into "That's The Way It Is" from performances in 1970.  I think a lot of this was from the International Hotel in Vegas where he did many residencies.  Probably the first performer to do these.

I'm a huge fan of his and have been to Graceland twice with a bunch of friends.  We stayed at the former Heartbreak Hotel across the street from Graceland.  We stayed in the Graceland Suite and a miniature version of Graceland.  There was even a mini Jungle Room with a waterfall.  Suite was 1,100 square feet and had 7 TVs.  It was awesome and quite the party palace for us in between trips to Beale Street, Stax, Sun Studios and amazing bbq joints.

You're other comments above this post are spot on about The King and agree 100%!

    We call 'em chili-cheese fries.

An order of french fries with chili, cheddar cheese, and chopped red onions on top.

You're eating that and you commented about the lobster roll I had with mayo and drawn butter would give you a heart attack!  And those fries won't?  But, I bet they were delicious!

Two people I want to see that I haven't managed to get to...yet.  Have fun!!

Gary Clark was doing a free show in Brooklyn when I was in NYC a few weeks ago, but... Brooklyn is so far away from Midtown :D

A friend of mine went to Gary's Brooklyn show and he said he just ripped it up on the guitar.  This will be the first time I'm seeing him and looking so forward to it.

Thanks for the comments as well Walter and enjoy the John Butler Trio!!!  I've heard great things about his music but don't know it well.

Great one Strider.  Adam 12 was one of my favorite shows when I was in grade school.  I didn't Google this or cheat but Officer Jim Reed on the left and Pete Malloy on the right.  Absolute classic show.

I remember this movie.  It was so ridiculous and stupid and din't like any of the alien characters.  The ending of the movie is so over the top.

  11. I was at Panorama yesterday and was so bummed out when I found this out.  I was really looking forward to seeing them here.  Glad I saw them in NJ a few months ago.  They say they will make it up to NYC fans later this year.  Let's hope and see what happens.  I had a GVF tee on for the show and I was getting a lot of comments from other fans and mostly condolences.  Saw quite a few fans with GVF tees.  I did enjoy David Byrne and XX yesterday, so not a total loss.  Even better being in the VIP section.

Cool. It’ll be interesting to hear from you how much the set has changed since you saw them in May!

We shall see.  It won't be a full set as it's a festival and they're not a headliner. According to the lineup times they get 50 minutes.  They go on at 4:35 pm on Panorama Stage (Main) just before David Byrne.  The latter gets one hour, so no complaints.  Only the headline for this day, The Killers get 90 minutes.

Whoa. Butter and mayo!?! That might be too much for even my heart.

Don't doubt me as so good.  It's up to you how much to pour!  And if too much for your heart, well at least you'll die happy!

Regarding bbq earlier today, I've been to some good ones.  When a few of us stayed at the former Elvis' Heartbreak Hotel across the street from Memphis we went to an eatery called Marlowe's.  It was quite good but the best thing is by staying at HH you get picked up in a pink cadillac and driven to the joint.  Also been to Rendezvous which has been featured on many food programs on the Travel Channel.  Ribs are to die for!  Had some good bbq in Austin as well.  Best was the beef brisket sandwiches we got in a deli up the hill from the ACL festival.  Maybe the best sandwich I ever had.  Also had some good surprisingly bbq in CT.  It was called Wilson's and quite good.  It closed a couple of years ago but was always busy.  May have been because of high rents.  It was on DDD a few years ago and did not disappoint!
