  1. SAJ, As far as the no autographs stance is concerned, I can't blame him. Rather than genuine, die-hard LZ fans like ourselves, he is probably plagued by those wishing to sell his signature on EBAY. Still, it is worthwhile knowing that this is his current policy as it saves the embarrassment of being refused. Personally, if I had the opportunity to meet the Great Man, I wouldn't ask for an autograph - I'd rather spend time talking to him and wish him well. I posted the article because people are now turning their fiscal eye towards these investment opportunities. I have recently been looking into investing in vintage wines - if the bottom fell out of the market, at least I could drink my assets .
  2. I am sure that many of you who have bought Jimmy's book would not part with it for the world. However, if any of you have bought it as an investment, or have bought more than one, this article may be of interest. GUILDFORD, Surrey, November 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- At a time when investors are looking for alternative investments, many are now considering the collectibles market where prices have seen strong increases in recent years. One area of growth has been limited edition items such as books. One company that has noticed this growing trend is Guildford based Genesis Publications which publishes only three limited editions a year. For 35 years, Genesis has worked with music legends such as Lennon, Bowie, George Harrison, Jimmy Page, Hendrix and The Beatles to name a few and artists such as Sir Peter Blake and Andy Warhol. What distinguishes Genesis books is they are not mass produced publications "...but beautiful, hand-made gems produced in highly limited editions, sought after by discerning global collectors," says Helen Hall, Former Christie's Vice President and Specialist in Entertainment Memorabilia. "Genesis books are works of art in themselves, which is why rare Genesis publications are today sold alongside old master paintings and contemporary art at the world's most prestigious auction houses." If you are looking for alternative investments, it's worth checking out this market. The rarity of the limited edition books can be a lucrative investment. Once sold out you can be assured the book won't ever be produced again. If you come across a Genesis book at auction, it's probably being offered at a considerably higher price than its original pre-publication offering. Helen Hall goes on to say, "Early, signed Genesis publications have seen a terrific return on the original purchase price. For example, signed editions of George Harrison's book "I, Me, Mine" sold out upon publication and copies occasionally surface on the secondary market at auction and through specialist book dealers for over GBP3,000 (original purchase price was GBP148). Deluxe editions of other books by Harrison, Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr which originally retailed for around GBP300 regularly appear at auction for between GBP1,000 and GBP2,000." Genesis' latest project is a photographic autobiography on Jimmy Page - one of the world's most iconic guitar players. The book has sold out before it's even launched and looks set to be a similarly sound investment.
  3. I realise that 'Big' Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas was not a guitarist - more of a maestro with a washboard - but this guy surely had the tightest trousers in rock! He would never have needed to undress for a medical!
  4. Magic, What is even more creepy is that apparently you can buy a 'Kiss' coffin. What a way to go! They make a pile of money from merchandising, but I think this is taking bad taste too far!
  5. You'll have to come up with a lot of BigMacs to feed that crowd, Mangani. Failing that, I've heard that they are very partial to Birdseye Fishfingers.
  6. EXACTLY. This is what occurred to me when I heard the interview. 'Some concerts' does not a tour make. I think whenever JP is interviewed he tries to be diplomatic and polite in his answers. We are still waiting for the website to go live, and I think that this time next year, we will still be waiting for 'some concerts'. Jimmy was supposed to be recording in Brazil in September, but there were no reports of him being spotted there at that time.
  7. When you say 'for those interested...' , are you meaning that you are looking to sell the book? If not, would you be willing to scan the relevant pages, and post them here?
  8. Their first interview is on Sky this evening at 1900 hrs.
  9. Hi Grasphinx It is not in fact a new release. I made a posting back in June of this year about it which I have reprinted below. If it didn't sell too well, I suppose these discount bookshops buy up the stock. Still, it is a worthwhile volume for any collector. Posted 21 June 2010 - 04:28 PM ".... Saw this being reviewed in yesterday's News Of The World. By longtime music journalist Chris Welch, it is called 'Treasures of Led Zeppelin'. The editorial on the Amazon UK site is as follows:- "Product Description Sell-out tours in packed stadiums, records going platinum on preorders alone, three-hour long concerts night after night, girls, booze, drugs...Led Zeppelin did it all. 'Treasures of Led Zeppelin', an unofficial publication, tells the story of the amazing journey of four talented young Englishmen on the path to rock 'n' roll glory. It is probably the greatest story of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll ever told...And the facsimile memorabilia takes you there, with ticket stubs, programmes, beautiful posters, superbly-designed contemporary flyers and other fascinating pieces of musical history in your hands... About the Author As a reporter on UK music weekly Melody Maker, Chris Welch went on the road with Led Zeppelin during the early 1970s. Chris has since worked on a variety of music magazines and has written more than 20 books on rock music. He also contributes to UK newspapers. His finest hour was 'Playing conga drums, live on stage in Germany with Led Zep during "Whole Lotta Love"". ..."
  10. For readers in the UK, I spotted this being sold at half price in the high street discount book shop chain (can't remember their name offhand). It's a worthy addition to any Zep fan's collection, and Chris Welch is a much respected music journo who knew the band well.
  11. Hi BIGDAN, I think they are using you and Misses BIGDAN as the model of a perfect marriage. The two of you are right up there with Antony and Cleopatra, Heathcliff and Cathy, Fred and Wilma Flintstone.........
  12. SOURCE:- Genesis Publications Website. Situated in Guildford, Surrey, the Genesis Reading Rooms will be a place for local residents and for those visiting London from abroad. "For the first time Genesis Publications is inviting readers to visit its publishing house for a series of free events and exhibits. Catherine Roylance: "Even though we take great pains to keep in touch with our international client base, it's not been possible to make ourselves known locally before. That's why we're creating the Genesis Reading Rooms, which will change all that. We're opening a newly-styled library and three exhibition spaces, which will form the backdrop for an exclusive programme of events, exhibits, talks and author signings throughout 2011." Founded in 1974, Genesis has been creating rare limited edition books with a line of highly acclaimed authors for more than 35 years. Artists and contributors include musicians such as George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Jimmy Page and The Who; visual artists like Sir Peter Blake and Storm Thorgerson; sporting heroes such as Sir Jackie Stewart and Liverpool FC; and even Hollywood icons, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. 13. I dare say a good many of you are not interested in anything related to British royalty, but as this has just been announced by Clarence House in London, I thought I'd include it, anyway. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20101116/tuk-prince-william-and-kate-middleton-to-dba1618.html
  14. Howdy BIGDAN, Would it be possible for you, or someone else on the site who has the requisite recording/computer facilities, to record Robert's part of the show and then put it on YOUTUBE for the sake of our overseas members? I am not sure if people overseas can get access to British TV programmes via any other source.
  15. I've been looking through the site to see if this topic has been covered elsewhere - so far can't find anything. Robert is on the 'Later With Jools Holland' programme tonight, 16 November 2010 at 2200 hrs. Here is the link:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00w5rvq Today, 22:00 on BBC Two (England, Scotland, Wales only) Joining Jools in the studio for the tenth and final live show of this series is the legendary Robert Plant, who performs tracks from his recent Band Of Joy album.
  16. I also made reference in my post to the fact that the jewellery would make it difficult to play a guitar. People in the public eye like Jimmy know that the general public and fans are interested in their personal lives, irrespective of whether it is our business or not. Some of the members of this site are interested in the band's personal lives; some make it clear that they are not. I
  17. Thanks SAJ, I couldn't see whether it was one, or three. You certainly couldn't play guitar with that without causing serious scratching to the guitar neck. It would certainly not allow for any slide guitar playing (not that JP has ever done much slide work). (I'll be in touch with the info promised. The work I'm doing is taking longer than expected:D ).
  18. http://www.gettyimag...s-Entertainment Take a look at this photo of Jimmy from the Classic Rock event on November 10. It is easier to see close up what I am referring to if you click on the above link and then click on the 'download preview' link. You will notice that on the third finger of his left hand, he has started wearing rings again. Can anyone figure out how many rings he is wearing on that one finger, and does this mean he is involved with someone again? In any event, it would be damn difficult to play a guitar with that amount of jewellery on the ring finger:D
  19. http://ledzeppelin.c...rmany-july-1970 I found this on the Richard Cole Appreciation Society Page on Facebook, which is a page run by Sean Atkinson, and well worth checking out. Join up as a Friend of the page. I don't know if any of you have seen the video before - apologies if you have.
  20. http://www.classicro...ic-rock-awards/ Jimmy presented the Innovator award to Killing Joke.
  21. This was on a catering magazine's website. So those of you who live in the London area know where to be if you want some photos. Blue Strawberry to serve the stars at Classic Rock Roll of Honour http://www.eventmagazine.co.uk/news/1038837/Blue-Strawberry-serve-stars-Classic-Rock-Roll-Honour/ David Quainton, 03 November 2010, 11:24am Classic Rock Magazine has brought in Blue Strawberry as caterer for the 2010 Classic Rock Roll of Honour. The event, taking place at the Roundhouse on 10 November, will be hosted by Alice Cooper. Among the 520 strong guests list will be Slash, Jimmy Page, Foreigner, Black Sabbath and Rick Wakeman. Blue Strawberry will serve a three-course dinner to guests prior to the awards ceremony, which will be filmed for television. The menu will include rack of lamb with soft herb crust, vegetables and braised mutton cannelloni.
  22. Cecil, any chance of you making it there on the evening of the 4th, when the private function takes place, as well as your visit on the 5th? Possible photo opportunity for you!!! Whatever you decide, would you share your experience with us here.
  23. Yes Danelectro, I agree with the above entirely. An awful lot in life is whether your face fits, or you are in the right place at the right time! I remember going to see The Firm in 1985, and Jimmy's performance was so mediocre, I thought at the time, there must be people in the audience who could put in a better performance (and it hurts me to say that, believe me).
  24. Yes, I don't see a mention either for Australian born, Grammy winning John Williams. From Wikipedia:- "... John Christopher Williams (born 24 April 1941) is a Grammy Award-winning Australian classical guitarist, widely regarded as one of the finest guitarists of his generation. He is a long-term resident of the United Kingdom."
  25. SAJ, Are you able to clarify for once and for all, if JPP was going to leave at that stage? I am still trying to figure out how an author who went to the length of securing a post writing for The Atlantic Monthly to get on the tour, then proceeds to lose his notes for thirty years. This is after telling us (refer to the opening para of this thread) that he "...secured my bulging Zeppelin file, put it in a drawer for safekeeping, ..".
