  1. ^^^Sorry TypeO. I decidedly did NOT laugh. Not only me...but neither my godson nor his dad laughed once, as well. Instead, we sat there as tortuous minute after tortuous minute went by, thinking "They wait 20 years to make a sequel and this is the best they can come up with?" I'm not even sure being stoned would have helped make it funny...but it probably wouldn't have hurt. On to better movies...Memorial Day is here and that means the big summer movies will be flying at us fast and furious. Some will linger in the theatres for a bit, while others flop and sink without a trace. Either way, now is the time to see the better films out there now before the summer onslaught pushes them out of the multiplexes. I raved about "Mad Max:Fury Road" already and that is sure to be in your theatres for quite some time. But there is another good film that came out about a month ago in a limited release and is worth seeing if it comes your way..."EX MACHINA". I'm not posting the trailer because it doesn't do the film justice...not even close. It makes it look like just another cyborg thriller, like "I, Robot". But "Ex Machina" is far more interesting, far more cerebral, far more intensely creepy than other film of its genre that I have seen in a long time. Oscar Isaac, who was excellent in "A Most Violent Year", gives another highly watchable performance. The rest of the cast is filled by actors I'm not familiar with, but they portray their roles with assurance. The notable performance of course is the actress who plays Ava, the A.I.robot. Mesmerizing. A totally different film experience than "Mad Max" but equally as great in its more quiet, psychological way. Next up..."Far From the Madding Crowd". Will Hollywood finally do Thomas Hardy justice?
  2. It could be your "Lucky Shirt" now! My gawd...is the Eastern Conference horrible or what?!? It's even worse than I thought. Cleveland is cakewalking to the Finals and half their team is wounded. Sadlanta is offering up no resistance and they were at home, ferchrissakes. Pathetic.
  3. Blue Öyster Cult "Some Enchanted Evening"...Kicking out the jams on a Friday...
  4. Don't ask me why but I was feeling nostalgic and picked this out of the stacks today...I forget how great Gary Brooker's vocals were.
  5. The Tiki-Ti is reopening today!!! The earth is back on its axis. http://www.latimes.com/food/dailydish/la-dd-tiki-ti-reopening-20150520-story.html
  6. How cool for you that your first experience was a great one...couldn't happen to a nicer fella. Did you wear the special shirt they leave on your seat for playoff games? Is there any reason to watch Atlanta- Cleveland? I can't think of any. There isn't one player on Atlanta that is must-see...a player that you fear. Cleveland has Lebron, Golden State has Curry, Houston has Harden. Generally, a team that is a championship contender has a player that you fear. Atlanta has nobody. Jeff Teague? Bwahahahahahaha.
  7. ^^^Did you get in 2bit? No luck for me. The tix went on sale at 12noon at the rollingstones.com website. Tickets were $5...yes, you read that right...five dollars. Everyone was on their personal google machines feverishly trying to get past the virtual waiting room and to the actual ticket-buying page. When I got thru, the tickets were already gone and that was the story for most of us in line. Later, I tried alternate methods but there were no tickets to be had. I gave up around 7pm and went to a movie instead. Last night's "Sticky Fingers" concert was filmed for a future video release.
  8. End of an era. I watched the final Letterman show at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip, where Dave performed when he was starting out in stand-up. The Comedy Store hosted a Letterman watching party last night. ebk is correct...practically a perfect send-off. Never got too maudlin and it was nice to see Regina and his son. It is sad that Robin Williams wasn't alive for the last show, for like Bill Murray, he had many memorable appearances on Letterman. Too bad Brother Theodore, Larry 'Bud' Melman, Bill Wendell, Chris Elliott, and others were no longer around to pay a final visit. The musical performances have been terrific the past week or so, but if you know the circumstances of Dave's quadruple-bypass heart surgery, then you understand why the Foo Fighters were the perfect choice...and why "Everlong" the perfect song for the end. Adios Dave!
  9. ^^^Good times chef free! Playoff games are fun...especially when your team wins. I don't know why, but I'm just not feeling excited about any of these two conference finals. The East plays ugly ball and I don't like either team. Cleveland will win a boring series. In the West, I think most people think it's a foregone conclusion that Golden State will win. Houston might take a game or two, but this is all a preamble to Stephen Curry vs. Lebron. It might help when your first-round pick plays more than one game. Lakers lost Julian Randle for the entire season last year.
  10. I'm kind of shocked the Leafs didn't muck it up...they actually did something right for a change. Hope it bodes well for your future, Patrycja.
  11. Thanks to jb126, I'm in a Pentangle mood this morning...
  12. This banner just dropped down the street from the Fonda...line started forming yesterday. 90028 is the zipcode of Hollywood.
  13. We're #2! We're #2! We're #2!
  14. I'm about 35 minutes away from watching tonight's next-to-last episode. My phone is already blowing up from people chatting about Bob Dylan's performance.
  15. The birthday boy Pete Townshend gets wild at Woodstock...
  16. Possibly my favourite performance of "Sparks". Happy birthday Pete!
  17. More Rolling Stones hysteria...rumours have been buzzing for some time about a surprise show in L.A. before the San Diego tour opener this week, and now it looks like it's really happening. http://www.laweekly.com/music/are-the-rolling-stones-playing-the-fonda-on-wednesday-5588280
  18. Not that I'm keeping track, but you seem to get sick often. Is everything all right, Andy?
  19. Pete Townshend is 70 years old today...yes, 70. Happy Birthday Pete! Obviously his wish to "die before I get old" did not come true.

    Tennis

Djokovic beat Federer in Rome yesterday but lost to the Champagne bottle.
  21. And they did it in an economical 14 innings!
  22. Eddie Vedder is on tonight! Sally became one of my favourite characters on the show...you rooted for something good to happen for her. My dream for Sally is for her to form her own rock band a la Patti Smith or Debbie Harry or Chrissy Hynde.
