  1. Which is why it's best to actually read what a thread is about before posting.
  2. What's the matter with indie films, which is exactly what Dazed and Confused was. It wasn't funded by a major film studio.
  3. Except for those of us that frequent clubs to hear live music. On that front, the majority of the bars here have a no smoking policy or have a portion of the club designated for smokers.
  4. I really don't think that's it, it's more likely the majority of those artists don't fit the criteria for induction. Not every artist that's ever come down the pike is going to be inducted. I believe artists such as Deep Purple, Rush, Warren Zevon, the Replacements and others fit the criteria to a tee but some such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Sabbath, their nominations and subsequent inductions were hard won. Whatever happens, every Deep Purple fan on the planet knows how influential and crucial they were to rock n' roll which is the most important thing.
  5. No offense intended, I was just making a joke at the expense of how overplayed Smoke On the Water is by the demon known as Classic Rock Radio. Of course, I agree they should be in, as should many, many others but that's just very likely never going to happen. I'm not even sure if they've ever been nominated.
  6. Maybe that's the exact reason why they aren't in.
  7. To the best of my knowledge, the term "heavy metal" was first coined in relation to the use of those words in the lyrics of the song Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf. More info here, scroll down to "Etymology".
  8. Not sure I get why it's necessary to compare Zeppelin and Metallica in relation to the latter's induction into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame (or to compare them at all). It isn't part of the criteria for induction to be compared to Led Zeppelin (or any other artist for that matter), it has to do with influence. When it comes to that I'm not sure everyone understands why certain artists are even inducted, it's not a competition. From the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame website: Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
  9. I didn't realize being inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame was some sort of competition with Led Zeppelin. As for Metallica, I'm not even a fan but I don't have a problem at all with their induction. While they may not be the only pioneers of thrash/speed metal, they are among the most widely recognized. For that, they deserve kudos.
  10. Or better yet, try finding a Frampton board where his shows (videotaped and otherwise) are traded freely. All you're likely to find on eBay is bootleg scum looking for a profit.
  11. The same poster that started this thread is currently in the process of being banned from the R.E.M. fansite Murmurs for continuing to promote his own website (thisdayinmusic) despite repeated warnings from Admin. I'm not sure what the policy is here but on most sites that's considered "spam". Thus, the banning. Not to mention, this story was reported here back when it very first occurred. For a history of this person's spam postings on this site check here.
  12. The real story is finally being told.
  13. I doubt very seriously Plant, Krauss or T Bone went into the Raising Sand project knowing it would take off like it did. If there was a known formula for success everyone that wished to make a buck in the music business would be tapping into it. If anything, they went into Raising Sand not knowing at all how successful (or unsuccessful) it would turn out to be. From my listening experience it sounds like it was an album they both undertook sheerly for their love of the music within, no more, no less. Not everyone has dollar signs in their eyes when it comes to making music.
  14. The article isn't really about ER going off the air as much as it's about people having different avenues (such as the internet) for their television programming these days. Personally, I know of a good handful of friends that don't have cable, satellite or any form of standard broadcast TV, they use the internet instead.
  15. That would be him. The new record will also feature David Hidalgo of Los Lobos on accordion.
  16. The latest I've read is that it might not happen this year but it will happen eventually. I haven't read anything about it being held in Central Park but I seriously doubt that would be an ideal locale.
  17. From now until midnight tomorrow you can download "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'" (featuring Mike Campbell) from the upcoming new album at Dylan's website.
  18. How is that so? Page played on the Honeydrippers EP and one cut on Now and Zen, beyond that Page hasn't contributed to any of Plant's solo records, at least to my knowledge. Even going by the contributions I mentioned I wouldn't define either of them as Plant "leaning" on Page. More accurately they were collaborations by two guys that used to be in a band together. Judging by your comments you make it sound like Plant owes the success of his entire solo career to Jimmy Page when in fact he's made it clear from the very beginning that he wanted to make his own type of music and not be in the shadow of Zeppelin's legacy. I don't think any of the surviving members of Zeppelin have done anything that holds up to Zeppelin's legacy, that's because it would be pointless to do so and quite honestly it's unfair to hold their respective solo careers to what they did in Zeppelin. Plus, as I mentioned before, Plant's aim was to not sound like Zeppelin. I've never once heard him claim in an interview that he had outdone Zeppelin or had any intentions to during any time in his solo career. I, for one, haven't forgotten the Honeydrippers. I also still hear their songs (particularly Sea of Love) played on the radio so it appears they haven't been forgotten by the general music listening public either. They were even supposed to do a Volume 2 and would have if not for the untimely death of Ahmet Ertegun. It doesn't sound like they are too "forgotten" to me. How many people remember the Willie and the Poor Boys record Page participated in that was of a very similar groove to the Honeydrippers EP? And, who is this "A/C" you keep referring to?
  19. Back in the 70s Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, the Allmans and others played benefit concerts during Carter's campaign for office. Now, whether he actually listened to them or not is anyone's guess but everything I recall reading said he was a fan. (l-r) Phil Walden, Gregg Allman & Jimmy Carter
  20. Except this movie isn't a remake. The article says it's not even actually a "sequel", at least not in the sense that most people think of the word.
  21. I love Iris Dement, she has a great turn in the movie Songcatcher. She also gets a ringing endorsement from John Prine in the liner notes to her first record, praise doesn't come much higher than that. Admittedly her voice can be an acquired for some but it's never been a problem for me. Also, if you're a fan of Natalie Merchant, her House Carpenter's Daughter album is absolutely wonderful, especially if you're a fan of songs in the style of Let the Mystery Be.
