  1. I like many of the January gigs, especially Chicago. Jimmy played very well, some shows Robert was decent, and the early setlist I much preferred. If they would have stuck with WS & Levee, and alternate HMMT with D&C that would have been quite lovely. Maybe even toss in the occasional Custard Pie...drop down baby 😉

    1. Which books should I read to understand the band?

I realize the Stephen Davis book (Hammer of the Gods) is controversial, so I'll probably skip it.  I currently own Dave Lewis' The Tight But Loose Files: A Celebration, which I highly recommend.  I just ordered Led Zeppelin All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Track, which arrives tomorrow.  I probably won't buy the band's new photo book because it's just pictures.

    2. Any really good coverage of the O2 show?

I read a dozen reviews of it.  Has anything more substantial been published that gives info about the show (and/or the "Celebration Day" releases, which I love)?

    3. What are the band's biggest hits?

It seems to me Led Zeppelin had 4 songs that resonated far more than the rest.  "Stairway" was the biggest song despite not being a single.  "Rock & Roll" would be their second biggest hit because it was the next biggest song on their biggest selling album.  Their first song to chart in America, I believe, was "Whole Lotta Love", so I'll call that their third biggest hit.  Then Black Dog.  And that's their clear top 4 hits.  Fair to say?

    4. How do you get your friend who doesn't like LZ, and prefers hummable/singalong music, to like them?

My plan is to give that friend "Celebration Day".  Good plan?

    5. Nicking other aritsts?

I'm not bothered by the plagiarism accusations because I think LZ always put their own spin on the music.  Many of the songs they supposedly nicked sound nothing like the LZ version.  I'm wondering if there are any songs where you're particularly bothered by the similarity with another song.

    6. To what extent did Page vs. Plant write the songs' vocal melodies?

I know Page wrote most of the music but what about the vocal melodies.

    7. What do you make of Robert Plant's talent?

Note: this might sound a little harsh.  I apologize for that.

I'll preface that I've never heard a great LZ cover and I think a lot of that is because no one can replicate how stunning Plant sounded.  However, he's pitchy in old live recordings.  Plus, his voice weakened dramatically around 73 and from then on it sounded like he was trying to sing songs he didn't have the strength for.  What is your frank assessment of his ability?

I think its bullshit myself.  Is a long standing traditional team name. No ill feelings towards Indians involved.  Hell, I cant even find an Indian, even at the Casino.

That's because Indians live in India and not in North America. Jokes aside, right now the Skins have much bigger fish to fry with their latest scandal. Several people out, forced to retire and the league may force Snyder to sell the team.

How the hell this kind of garbage can be going on in 2020, after Weinstein, Ailes, O'Reilly, Rose, etc. is just beyond me. The arrogance of these jackasses is obviously beyond measure.

I heard CBD oil shows up on your system if you do a drug screening for a job.

If your state allows medical or recreational weed your employer can't do shit, if they do you can sue them. The exception is jobs that require the operation of heavy or dangerous equip. but I believe you can get an exception but have to follow very strict criteria.

  5. Best Earl Grey I have tasted is loose leaf from Teavana, just fabulous. Unfortunately, Teavana no longer offers loose leaf and only the satchels are offered. Still a damn fine cup of tea and you can order on-line.

I am a huge Jimmy Page fan and also a great tea connoisseur.I know Jimmy enjoys a hot cuppa daily .I am curious to know which brand or kind of tea Jimmy likes best .
        Thanks,

        Alice

As a proper Englishman there are only two choices: English Breakfast Tea with cream for mornings and Earl Grey with honey & lemon for afternoon tea-time 😉

Ps. Never put cream or milk in Earl Grey as in England I believe that is an offense worthy of a stay in the Tower. However it does get a bit confusing as a London Fog (Earl Grey Latte) is quite popular in the UK.

Hold on there. The audio is all LA Forum but not all of the video is from the Forum.

Yeah, Plant's blouses change by the minute, makes Jonesy's TSRTS wardrobe differences look normal. But still amazing. I never knew there was so much video out there. My main thing is the music anyway, that is what's most important to me and this is fantastic. Love it all 🙂

From what I remember when I saw The Firm in LA was that he only used the #1 LP for the bow solo. I definitely remember him playing the Puple #3 Les Paul at the end of the 1985 Forum show.

When I saw The Firm in Phoenix in 85' he used the LP on Radioactive as well. The show was stopped before Radioactive for about three minutes as there was a problem with the double neck (guitar he typically used on Radioactive). Jimmy was in the wings talking to the tech and then we saw him take the LP. Man the place went bananas as this was the first tune he pulled out the LP for. IMO the LP did a fine job on Radioactive, no complaints at all.

BTW this was a fantastic show, Page played very, very well, no slop at all. At this show at least Jimmy did in fact eat his Weaties

Well, they needed something to juice up sales. I have been buying all the deluxe Rolling Stones remasters up to now...Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St., Some Girls.

But I was not going to buy "Goats Head Soup" unless it had something really special added. Jimmy's song and "Brussels Affair" (even though I've had that show for years already in three different versions) will do nicely.

I may be in the minority but I really like GHS. Dancing with Mr. D is a gem, Angie, and Doo Doo Doo Do are classics. Maybe the album is not quite up to Exile, Sticky, etc. but it holds something special for me.

THIS is the America that many of us here remember, and could still be if only some would just embrace it make it this way AGAIN.

Exact-o-mundo! Just make it all inclusive and perfection. Sometimes I think every time we try and fix a problem, three more pop up in it's place while not really fixing the original problem.

My biggest issues are loss of community, loss of the familial bond, and the transient nature of American society in general. If we don't have these, fixing the rest is near impossible.

Percy would not like to be replaced by a clown.

This alone would be worth it:

Guitar World: So Jimmy, your pick of front man is rather...unusual. Can I ask why this particular choice?

JP: Well Brad, Robert was not available so the obvious choice was Puddles. We really need a clown to fill Robert's enormous shoes. Cue clown horn and whoopee cushion sound.

  12. I love this clown, great voice, interesting presence, and he sips a spot o' tea before getting into it. Plus his facial expressions, or lack thereof are hilarious.

I think we have found the new singer for Jimmy Page's new music! Now I know most are skeptical that Jimmy has even written new music but I tell you, I think he has but just cannot find the perfect singer. Well, here he is. Jimmy, give this guy a call, this clown is the real deal. However I would ask him his opinion on John Wayne Gacy first. Better safe than sorry.

After the flag raising it was off to the meat grinder for them. Though it's been proven that Bradley really wasn't one of the flag raisers, I believe he kept quiet about it just so he could get off that damned island. You would have thought that LBJ would have snubbed the Japanese on that one. Still can't believe his cop out from Vietnam.

LBJ Military Service. On June 21, 1940, Lyndon Johnson was appointed Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve (USNR). Reporting for active duty on Dec. 10, 1941, three days after Pearl Harbor, he was ordered to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Navy Department, Washington, D.C., for instruction.

We pretty much F'ed the Japanese psyche in toto by wars end and followed that up by what was considered by most Japanese to be a disgraceful occupation of their country. Now we (Americans) did nothing I am aware of which would be considered disgraceful, but to the Japanese all honor was lost and rightfully so. They embraced the whole empire building BS after they beat the shit out of the Russians in the 1905 war and it went right to their heads (BTW the Japanese started the war with a surprise attack on the Russian naval base at Port Arthur). The Japanese always considered themselves superior to everyone else so to them what they did was justifiable, no atrocities because the people they went after were not Japanese.  This was 100% the fault of the Japanese military as by the 1920's they had completely bastardized the code of Bushido to suit their own needs and consistently went against the Emperor himself to the point they were contemplating overthrowing the Emperor and installing a military dictatorship with the Emperor as a captive figurehead.

So as far as I am concerned the Japanese got what they deserved and we should have given Iwo Jima to the Koreans for compensation for centuries of oppression which continues to this day for Koreans born and raised in Japan.
