    Unfortunately, at the time the BBC was preparing that documentary (Late Summer 1999) things were at an all time low between Page & Plant. Robert of course having left Page/Plant in the Spring. Additionally, each seems to have conflicted emotions about Peter post 1980. Hell, it was Bill Curbishley who cajoled them into inviting Peter to the last gig on the 1995 UK tour. Neither Page nor Plant stayed long at the funeral reception a few months later. I'm not judging, I'm just saying.

    Could I hear some more context on the "all time low" in their relationship? Not trying to hop on you or anything, but I'm very curious considering the quality of their most recent tour. Also, what's the cause of these conflicted feelings on Grant? If you could direct me to any sources that delve more into either of those things it'd be much appreciated.

  2. imo the best set of their career is Seattle '72.

    1. Immigrant Song ->

    2. Heartbreaker

    3. Black Dog

    4. The Ocean (debut)

    5. Since I've Been Loving You

    6. Stairway to Heaven

    7. Going to California

    8. Black Country Woman (impromptu - debut)

    9. That's the Way

    10. Tangerine

    11. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp

    12. Dazed and Confused (Snippets incl. Walter's Walk and The Crunge)

    13. What Is and What Should Never Be

    14. Dancing Days

    15. Moby Dick

    16. Whole Lotta Love (Medley incl. Boogie Chillen', Let's Have a Party, Hello Mary Lou, Only the Lonely, Heartbreak Hotel, Going Down Slow)

    Encores:

    17. Rock and Roll

    Encore 2:

    18. Organ Solo (Snippets incl. Amazing Grace, Everyday People, Medley incl. Louie Louie, Let's Dance) ->

    19. Thank You

    Encore 3:

    20. Money (That's What I Want)

    (possibly leaving the stage again)

    21. Over the Hills and Far Away (debut)

    22. Dancing Days (2nd performance)

    Just what a fuckin' marathon. It's also worth mentioning that every song in the organ solo medley and Money was also played for the first time ever that night.

    It's almost impossible to discuss ideal setlists without going tour by tour, but let's take the '77 set and tweak it a bit...

    1. The Song Remains the Same ->

    2. Sick Again ->

    3. The Rover: no clue why they never gave this one a full go... Robert's voice surely could've handled it by '77

    4. Nobody's Fault But Mine

    5. Alternating: In My Time of Dying (with You Shook Me snippet) and Since I've Been Loving You

    6. No Quarter

    7. Ten Years Gone -> (I think this transition could've be really fuckin cool)

    8. The Rain Song

    9. Going to California

    10. Black Country Woman (abridged) ->

    11. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp (w/ the occasional Dancing Days snippet)

    12. Over the Top (but let's cut it 15 minutes)

    13. White Summer/Black Mountain Side ->

    14. Kashmir

    15. Alternating: Over the Hills and Far Away and Trampled Under Foot

    16. Noise Solo (cut it at 10 minutes)

    17. Achilles Last Stand

    18. Stairway to Heaven

    Encores:

    20. Whole Lotta Love ->

    21. Alternating: Communication Breakdown, Black Dog, Rock and Roll, The Ocean

    Since California's estate isn't claiming to have originated those progressions, that's completely irrelevant.  It's pretty obvious that Page was influenced by Taurus in writing STH, hence his evasive answers when asked about his familiarity w/Spirit's music.  It doesn't follow of course that California is entitled to a writing credit, but that's the angle they're taking, not that California was the first person to come up with those progressions.

    Fair enough. But then what are they actually hoping to gain from this? If California didn't write the progressions, he can't get a writers credit and doesn't deserve any royalties. I feel like if there were an actual argument here, then Randy would've tried to get Jimmy during his lifetime. Speaking of which... is there no statue of limitations on this shit? Well clearly not considering this case is occurring, I guess school didn't prepare me too well for this trial haha. But then again, I'm by no means a law student.

  4. It's hilarious that this case hasn't been thrown out yet. These chord progressions have existed for at least longer than Jimmy Page's grandparents have been around. This entire case is bullshit, nobody owns the rights to classical chord progressions.

    And what song should they have eliminated?  The O2 has a noise curfew and Zeppelin had to stop playing by 2300 hours.

    Misty Mountain Hop and SIBLY. If they were played as a pair I could see it, but Jimmy simply wasn't in shape for SIBLY, and MMH was placed awfully in the setlist. In my opinion, at the very least.

    It'll be impossible to nail down but these things can make for lively discussions😂

    My personal vote, naturally, would likely be Cleveland, April 28, 1977. Don't sound too surprised, people😂

    Might wanna take a look at the shows included, as that was not one we included in either one lol.

    However, ZepHead315/Lurker and I also briefly discussed doing one for each year I believe, and that show would totally qualify for '77's top 10 imo. But we'll see how this goes first :D

    Ultimately, although some go to great lengths to provide critical analysis to support their choices, it's still just a matter of opinion.

    Right. I agree. The point of this is simply to see if there's a general consensus to what their best shows are, if you feel this discussion is pointless, then feel free to not participate :)

    Denver 72 is a damn good choice, but my personal preference would be Vancouver 8/19/71. First off, this is before Plant strained his voice in LA two days later and consequently ended up singing with a bit of a crack for the rest of the tour. Hearing him still in his true prime would be incredible. Secondly, given how it was the first show of the tour, they may very well have thrown in some oddities. Someone who commented on the show claimed this was the setlist...

    Damn, that set sounds awesome. Wayyyyy too good to be true probably, but awesome nonetheless. That being said, opening nights often can have experimental setlists. It definitely would be great to have another prime era Plant show, because he certainly took a turn for the worse not too soon after.

  9. Didn't know whether to include this in live or polls, sorry.

    Hi everybody! Pretty soon over on the r/ledzeppelin subreddit, I'll begin posting a survivor series where we vote out the best Zeppelin bootlegs one by one until we're left with presumably the best ones. You can read all the info about it (shows included, when it begins, etc.) here. I'm posting this here to get a general consensus to see if anyone here would be interested in participating, and if I should bother posting it here as well as reddit. If this sounds like something you're interested in, please let me know.

    P.S. for the mods: if I do end up posting this here too, would it be preferred that I just keep it here on this one thread and comment the new polls on it daily? Or is making new posts acceptable? Thanks everyone.

    Should've added a poll in the first, but I didn't so please vote here to let me know if you're interested or not. Much appreciated.
