Speaking of hoarders, ever heard the rumour there's a bloke hoarding Denver 1968? There's a tape I'd add to my original list...

I'm sorry, you're telling me there's a rumor that Zeppelin's first ever United States Concert is being hoarded? Hm.. I almost want it to be true. It could be total fabrication (considering it's their FIRST US CONCERT EVER), but that'd be amazing if that existed. If it's true, I hope it surfaces one day... that'd be a historic tape to say the very least.

Great show. If Robert hadn't mentioned they were sick I might've not even noticed. They prevail.

Edit: specifically I'll highlight that scream in SIBLY... that just might be one of the highest things I've heard him reach this year even if it's a tad short-lived. Might've been one of the last times he ever hit a note that high.

Any or all of the missing '77 shows. I refuse to believe any of those shows had not a single bootlegger in the audience as they were so huge by then.

Love all of your picks. As for '77 specifically, one can only assume that a bootlegger might think "ah this tape is shit," and had re-recorded over it or just never bothered to do anything with it. Maybe they don't know there are people out here fiending for these tapes. Maybe they;re hoarding assholes. Who knows? The '77 tapes are still probably the most likely to pop-up.

The first two don't list this date, but Wikipedia and Setlistfm seem to think it did... I had never heard of anything on this date happening until now. I'm assuming this was a canceled date or something, but why does nowhere else mention it? Idk why a date would've been canceled during this period because of how great of shape everyone was in, maybe someone got sick? Idk. Any additional information on this one?

  5. I - Black Mountain Side

    II - Living Loving Maid

    III - Hats Off

    IV - Misty Mountain Hop

    HOTH - D'yer Mak'er

    PG - Night Flight

    Presence - Candy Store Rock

ITTOD - All My Love (Hot Dog is at least fun)

    Coda - Poor Tom

Of course I still love them all (except maybe Poor Tom)

Oh yes, now I remember. I believe his father had passed away and JPJ had to leave. I wonder how Ms. Smith managed? Is there a tape of the show with encores?

    Thanks ed141

According to this site, there's sadly no circulating source of this show. However, this site hasn't been updated in a while (since 2015?), so it's entirely possible a tape has popped up since then. I've only gotten into bootlegs last yearish, so I wouldn't know. Sucks because it certainly sounds like an interesting thing to hear. Also sad that this website isn't kept up to date, it's a great resource. Maybe I'll try to message Your Overlord about it...

I guess you are very particular as Plant sounded great for most of 77' - 80'. He was no longer sounding like his dick was caught in a coffee grinder (thank god) as he did 68'-72' but if that is what you like, more power to ya. Sure, Plant had better range in the pre-73' days but even by his own admission he was doing less actual signing and just going for the histrionics. After his throat surgery and post-75' he sounded better IMO than he did in the early days but then again, I never went for that screaming banshee shit unless a particular passage in a tune really required it.

    It's all subjective

Sorry, I was referring to specifically '73. I love his voice from '77-'80. I find 73 to generally be one of his weakest years. You think his voice was better in '77-'80? That's fine, I'd definitely disagree. I think your evaluation of '68-'72 is rather unfair, it was all about power in those days. That's what the band was.

    I realize it's all subjective, I don't think I implied otherwise (?)

Nope, neither of those. This time it's OTHAFA from 6/25/72 and We're Gonna Groove from RAH. I did a sort of compilation based on a fan's suggestions and those two got flagged. I'm gonna try and resolve it one way or another.

Hm, that's interesting. You have both of those songs up on one or two different videos each if I'm not mistaken, have they bothered any others? Or does it seem to be a combination of the two?

  9. I'd definitely go with the debut, heavy as hell, imagine seeing that in '69. You knew this band had to rock harder than anyone else, what else would this cover be communicating? Controversial opinion: the PG cover doesn't do much for me. I look at it and see a building. Biiiiig freakin' deal. That being said, I think it represents the sound of the album well. I just don't think it beats I, III, IV, Houses, or ITTOD.

  10. These playlists are jokes. Only took a glance, but Mississippi Queen in the drum playlist and not guitar? In what universe?

It's also basically impossible to choose one for each Bonz and Jimmy since they have two entirely different stages of their career: Young, Raw and Crazy, and matured musicianship.

Raw and Crazy for Bonz/Jim: HMMT and DAC

    Matured Bonz/Jim: FITR and TYG.

While I'm here I may as well do the same thing for the other two.

Raw and Crazy for JPJ/RP: The Lemon Song and HMMT

Matured JPJ/RP: No Quarter and I'm Gonna Crawl

  11. I realize this post is ages old, but I've never once mistaken the "she" for "he" that could just be the fact that I'm only 18 and I mostly ever hear the remasters. Also interesting that some people were unaware of the "Where's that confounded bridge?" line was a direct James Brown reference (well the whole song), that's probably the first thing I ever read about the song.

How about his best performance post-1973??? I would say 6-13-77.

I would switch that discussion to post-72. Baltimore and LA were fantastic, but other than that I can't think of many overall great shows.

  13. Choosing just one is so difficult... I think I'll go with Copenhagen. That version of Four Sticks blows me away every time I hear it. I'd probably round out the Top 3 with Belfast and MSG Evening show.

    Thanks.  Still a treasure.

The best holy grail yet to heard (no tape exists though) would be Denver 1972.    Hope a recording was made by someone.

I would kill for a recording of Denver '72. From all I've read, we have additional instances of them playing Louie Louie and The Ocean that night at the very least, and I'd love to hear them both. It'd also be nice to get a source for the Buffalo show, as there are rumors that could've been the first time they played The Ocean.

Yeah, much like reality went, Robert was in and out of wanting to be in Zeppelin after 77. I think that would’ve been the case had they taken a lengthy hiatus after 80/81.  He would’ve come back into the fold after a few years for a reunion or to make more music, then drifted back out and so forth.  IMO.

Yeah I see that as a likely scenario. Had they given Robert the proper time to readjust, I'm sure he would've came back in full force.
