  1. Just had this discussion on RO. While I wouldn't complain about a Philadelphia '75 board, please for the love of fuck could they just release ANYTHING from '72? Spare 1968, it's the only year that we haven't a single soundboard from. The 1972 US Tour was one of the band's very best peaks, any board from the era would be massively appreciated.

  2. Loved your review of Vienna. It's a shame, Hot Dog through SIBLY has some of Page's best solos almost ever, that fire cracker killed possibly his strongest night of the tour. On the other hand, Bonzo was having another less than ideal night. Whoever lit that fire cracker deserves to be jerked off by an elephant, in the words of Robert.

Here's a 1968 concert recording of "Dazed and Confused" that gives you an example of the raw power of the band in their early years.  By October 1969, when Led Zeppelin performed this song at Carnegie Hall in NYC, Jimmy Page had perfected his eerie and haunting use of the cello bow in this song.  The physical and intense power of John Bonham's drumming is so apparent throughout the song as well.  Also, some of the electric guitar effects during the jamming interlude within the song incorporate the influence and sound of Jimi Hendrix.  Enjoy.

For the record, this version of DAC was recorded in March 1969 if I'm not mistaken. The only available 1968 live recording is Spokane.

I believe the 6/14/72 recording is complete.

6/14 & 15/72 really need upgrades.   What a set of shows.  Both with extended encores.   It was one of their best run of shows ever.

Yes sadly the 14th cuts off during BIOH. It's likely that was the final song of the evening, but we can't know until we see a SBD.

Edit: The real tragedy is the fact that we're missing all encores from the 15th. As you said it's long rumored to have been another marathon, but I'd kill to get that audio to back it up.

This accident was a real death blow:

    1.  Robert done for 1 1/2 years.

    2.  Jimmy plans gone up in smoke.

    3.  World tour cancelled.

    4. In 1975 the band was at the top of the world.  By 1977 KISS had overtaken the band in popularity.  The shine had worn off.

    5.  Sinking into drug and alcohol spiral by some members.

Lots of good points here, but you always need to consider that the '77 tour might not have been nearly as good as it was without that year and a half break. Robert's voice came back much more powerful, I can't imagine the increased damage it would've sustained in late '75.

I used to believe this too, but the appearance this year of the 12-3-72 Glasgow show (a real gem) and the solid Detroit '72 show makes me rethink it.  I agree there's probably not a lot hidden away, but there are probably some nice surprises.

Still holding out hope that a Denver '72 tape is out there... It's unbelievable to me that the US 72 Tour only has 3 dates without a circulating recording, and two of them (Denver and San Diego) were at the point where the tour has reached its peak. For all we know, Seattle '72 doesn't hold a feather to the Denver performance. What I wouldn't do for more audience tapes to just pop up already... Still, the Detroit tape popping up is a miracle.

I'd like to know if anyone knows if Zeppelin had planned to multi-track any of the cancelled '75 or '77 shows.

Were any future '75 dates ever officially planned? Or were they just ideas the band had before Percy's car crash?

I once read that Jimmy simply couldn't locate any equipment to multi-track any '77 shows. That's a huge bummer if true, imagine if they had multi-tracked the New York or LA runs... Could create one of the best official live releases ever. Alas, another in the series of missed recording opportunities for Zeppelin (Carnegie Hall, Bath, literally ANY Copenhagen show.... the list goes on).

Also I'd extend this to '80 as well. By all accounts the band seemed to be in high spirits going into preparation for the tour, I can see Jimmy having wanted to multi-track a few shows.

    Are you serious?

Uhhh. Yes? Why would I not be? These were enjoyable reads, I'd like to hear what he has to say on other shows.

I intend to finish them but I've had an onset of laziness the past few weeks.

    Nitpicking Page 6/24/1980 Hannover (Gracias)

Hey man, any chance of you picking this back up? Love reading all these and am very curious to hear what you have to say on the other shows of this tour.

Yep, just like Mick Ronson. Bowie would have been a flash in the pan without Ronson, just as Zep would have been nothing without Jones.

I would extend that to Mick Taylor as well. Half of the Stones' best songs from their most iconic era were carried by him yet he had one solo writing credit in the entire span. It was a disgrace.

  12. I've only been around forums like this for about a year, and I've only been a Zeppelin fan for about 2 so I'm not the most knowledgeable on stuff like this. Sorry if this is common knowledge or whatever.

My question is pretty simple: Is there any possibility there are more multi track recordings of the group than we know? For instance, how long did we know about the NA '72 multi-tracks or the Southampton '73 multi-track before they saw some type of release? Was the Zeppelin fanbase in shock when Page announced they'd be using these shows, or was it expected these shows would eventually be heard in this quality?

I believe I saw a list on this site once of all multi-tracked shows that went something like this:

10/17/69 - Carnegie Hall (Although from what I've read since it seems as if there's nothing here)

1/9/70 - Royal Albert Hall: Partially  released on the Led Zeppelin DVD

    9/23/71 - Tokyo

    9/24/71 - Tokyo

    9/28/71 - Osaka

    9/29/71 - Osaka

6/25/72 - L.A. Forum: Released on How the West Was Won

6/27/72 - Long Beach: Released on How the West Was Won

1/23/73 - Southampton: Leaked and widely available

7/23/73 - Baltimore: I've read in a few places that this one (and the following night) was rumored to have been multi-tracked.

    7/24/73 - Pittsburgh

7/27/73 - Madison Square Garden: Released on The Song remains the Same soundtrack

7/28/73 - Madison Square Garden: Released on The Song remains the Same soundtrack

7/29/73 - Madison Square Garden: Released on The Song remains the Same soundtrack

5/17/75 - Earl's Court: This and the following night people seem tentative on whether they were recorded or not. Do we have a definitive answer on this?

    5/18/75 - Earl's Court

5/23/75 - Earl's Court: Partially released on the Led Zeppelin DVD (I think? I believe I've heard people hesitant on whether we've seen film from this show or not. I'm not exactly huge on the EC shows so I've never looked into it)

5/24/75 - Earl's Court: Partially released on the Led Zeppelin DVD

5/25/75 - Earl's Court: Partially released on the Led Zeppelin DVD

8/4/79 - Knebworth Festival: Partially released on the Led Zeppelin DVD

8/11/79 - Knebworth Festival: Partially released on the Led Zeppelin DVD

Have any of these gigs I listed more tentatively been proven true or false that they were multi-tracked? And how long did it take the fanbase to glean the info on these performances to determine this? Again, I'm asking this simply because I wonder if it's possible that there are multi-tracked performances we have no clue about.
