  1. thanks tony. there is nothing at all wrong with the way you write. i would never have guessed english was not your natural language, bravo!

I agree, and I'm an English teacher.

  2. ^that's scary.

Since I've been without health insurance for over a year, and the pill is about $100 a month, I haven't been on it for a while. Once I ran out of money, the pill went away.

It's been too long that I've been without hormonal birth control, so it's kind of been a rude awakening to how my body works without it.

I am glad I took the break from it, but I also worry a bit about something (ahem) unplanned happening.

  3. It was hard to explain to my friends why I was on them, but it ended up helping me more than the stress it caused to explain to my 8th-grader friends why my mom thought it was necessary.

My old roommate thought that was hilarious and she taped a few of them to our bathroom mirror.

I quoted myself because this thread is moving too fast!

Yes, Ninelives is correct about birth control. I've been on the pill since I was about 14, not because I was sexually active then, but because I had other issues, and the hormones in the pill helped regulate them.

I think that the best bet for birth control is Depo-provera, though I personally never want to be on that again. I was on it for a few years, and I really do prefer the pill.

  5. No, I'm not talking about both.

Accutane has a HUGE risk of birth defects if you become pregnant while the drug is in your system. I'm talking about babies born brain dead and other major, major stuff. I had to sign an affidavit that I was on the pill before the doctor would write me a prescription for Accutane. THEN I also had to sign an affidavit that I would do my best to prevent becoming pregnant, even using two forms of birth control while on Accutane. There was literally a silhouette of a pregnant lady and a red cross-out "NO" sign on the blister pack FOR EACH PILL!

  6. I wouldn't think about Accutane unless your skin is really bad.

Honestly, my skin was disgustingly bad--once I started Accutane, people who had known me for years noticed a HUGE difference right away.

My doctor took blood samples every month to monitor my kidney function and other organs' health. I also believe I had to sign a waiver/contract saying that if I were to become pregnant while on it, I agreed to have an abortion.

I was 20 at the time, so that was a pretty freaky thing to have to think about. I avoided sex the entire time I was on it so I wouldn't ever have to think about whether I could follow through with said action if I were to become pregnant.

  7. ^I saw that one on Staples' website. I'm going to hold out for a 4GB one because I've never replaced a computer within five years of buying it--I hold on to them for a while, so I should get the best I can afford, (which at the moment is NOTHING).

A principal called me today about a job! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I wasn't able to talk to him when he called because I was placed on a jury today. <_<

I also got an email from a friend asking me if I don't have a job when school starts if I can sub for her while she recovers from surgery. (That's a bad thing for the friend, but a good thing for me b/c I will be busy even if I don't have a contract.)

  8. Back when I had the money to blow on such things, I used Estee Lauder's skincare line.

Now, I use Neutrogena's foaming face wash, as seen here.

I like it because it gets my makeup off my face! Many other facial washes don't get the mascara off, and you have to use a second product to do so.

I also use this when my skin needs moisturizer.

    I like it a lot.

I also have breakouts still, but that's just part of my skin. I used to have acne so bad that I actually had a teacher ask me if I "had the chicken pox or something," and a dermatologist prescribed Accutane to me once I was old enough to make my own medical decisions. My skin was so bad that I had welts that turned purple and brown on my face when I was younger, so a few pimples are a bit annoying to me, but I have to remember how bad my skin once was. ;)

  9. I've had a good day today. It's fall-like weather here, though tomorrow's supposed to be back up to par. I've enjoyed it.

Last night, we had dinner at a deli--turkey sandwiches saw the HP movie. I was happy about that.

My boyfriend also replaced my ruined bra becuase he knew I was so upset about it.

While at the movie theater, I ran into some kids I've worked with at school. I was very happy to see them, too! (As they were to see me, they ran up to me, not the other way around... LOL)

  10. Yay!! That's the stuff I teach (especially the African American stuff), it's great! And congratulations on a really successful year, too.

Ditto to me (when I teach...), except for the African American emphasis. ;)

I'm slightly jealous of your lit courses, LongDistance. I miss college. :(

  11. I woke up to a horrendous thunderstom/rain storm, and it's been continuing all day long! :D

I've sat around and done NOTHING today! NOTHING!

...except for watch a movie, play on the internet, drink some coffee and read my book.

    Yeah.

    My kinda day. ;)

  12. That would be a nice place to go, for sure. I wish I lived in Europe sometimes because it would be much easier (as in faster and a bit cheaper) to travel to different countries than it is in The States.

I'm happy today because I GOT MY CAMERA BACK!

I had to send my camera in for repairs in July because the battery catch thing that holds the battery into the camera broke off. Sony did a GREAT job of repairing it and even replaced another damaged, but perfectly functioning part of the camera (marred because my mom dropped it in the driveway).

...and yay, Charles! :cheer: I'll have a POT of joe for you, my man! :D

  13. ^that's scary. Old people driving is very scary--there was a man this afternon driving 25MPH in a 55MPH on a state highway today when my sister and I were on our way home from swimming.

I wouldn't be surprised if I heard about a wreck that was caused by him. He was going over 30 MPH slower than the speed limit!

    1. They confirmed that the body found in the canal yesterday was that of the missing little boy. Now they're going to focus on the cause of death.

    2. They arrested a man today in Boise on 20 counts of child pornography. He had FOUR external hard drives full of child porn with children as young as 2 years old.

What is this world coming to? Seriously.

  14. Yeah, I even feel like it's "part of our woods" just from growing up, kind of like a sister city.

I saw the map of the distance between and I saw a report tonight about a guy living close to the canal, who's SUV cadaver dogs hit on. He claims it was stolen two days before the boy went missing and then "reappeared" they dug up his backyard before the body was found. hmmm.

I hope justice is served up for the poor kid.

Yeah, Boyz is cool...(teasing!) Hell if Neil Young opened his tour there....well...*sniff, sniff* :(

    ;)

Yes, the whole backyard thing is strange. They aren't letting too many details out, which is confusing many people. I really would like to be a fly on the wall in the police headquarters/FBI meetings, etc. The FBI is involved, and now so are three different police agencies.

SLC has better shopping than Boise. ;)

  15. ^yup.

I've been following that story very closely. He's been topic of many, many text messages among my family and friends.

They haven't positively identified the body yet, but they said it was a "young" male, the same height and weight of the missing boy--and there are NO other missing kids that have been reported in the Boise area.

This has been the biggest missing child case in Boise for A LONG TIME. I know the brother of the kid's mother's boyfriend, he was actually on the news the other day talking about it.

Seriously, the City of Boise is a small(er) city that's still got a small-town feel, so when something like this happens, the entire community puts effort into making the world a better place.

They've had over 3K volunteers out searching for him. A 9-day long candle-light vigil was set up outside his mother's apartment complex.

Hotplant--the spot they pulled him from is nearby my mother's home. She lives outside of Boise. On the news, they said it's almost completely impossible that the little boy's body would have traveled that far (from Boise to Kuna, which is quite a distance). He was found more than 13 miles away from the immediate area where his mother lived, though the canal runs near the apartments she lives in.

To give you a better idea of what Boise is like, just a week ago, a man whose family got a brand-new Extreme Makeover home about two years ago (who lives outside of Boise) got a (hopefully) life-saving surgery entirely funded by donations because his health insurance company wouldn't agree to pay for it. He has cluster headaches, which are said to the worst medical pain known to man, and are also called "suicide headaches," and it caused him to have to drop out of school and be let go from his job because he wasn't able to function. The Boise community was able to collect more than $100K to get this guy the medical attention he needs.

This is why I love living in Boise. Yes, it's a small(er) city, but things like that make this place home.

  16. I've been ridiculously lazy, too.

I'm trying to talk myself into doing basic housework, but I don't care about it at the moment. I got up at 6:30 and it's 9:30. The only thing I've accomplished so far is watering the yard (no sprinkler system), drinking an entire pot of coffee, surfing the net, and debating on what to do with my overgrown with weeds garden spot that I didn't plant this year, (and should I keep up the compost pile that seems more trouble than it's worth?).

  17. I've done absolutely NOTHING today!

    I love it!

I got up, surfed for a while, then decided to take a nap.

THEN I got up again, started reading, then surfed, then lay down for a while again.

Next I went outside and baked myself in the sun while reading, with an ice bucket full of ice with my cold water in it.

That's about it. That's all I've done all day. :D

  18. I'm a Hemingway convert after this book. Very relaxed style of prose.

    the-sun-also-rises.jpg

Mandy: I had to read the Grapes of Wrath 2 years ago for class. I love the symbolism and the layers of the book. I hate the prose, but it's really deep, good lit. Right now I'm picking through the symbols in The Sun Also Rises from a formalist standpoint.

I've never read The Sun Also Rises, but I've read other Hemingway books. I like him, but I'm not a HUGE fan. There are too many things that point to him being a man's man writer and I'm too much of a feminist to be able to deal with Ernie in large doses. ;)
