  1. It could be a form of 'Plonker' which is an 'endearing' term for someone who's a bit on the slow side. It's also used as slang for a penis - me thinks this is where Robert comes in.

 Haha I don't know why but for some reason that crossed my mind but I didn't want to say anything, I'm not too up on British slang.

  2. I'll do some checking on the 1973 date.

Cream played Wolverhampton Civic Hall the 9th June 1967 with The 'Nbetweens and several other groups on the bill but no mention of Listen.

Listen played all around the Walsall /Wolverhampton/Bloxwich area..their was a very good group scene going on and money could be made.

The Willenhall Baths gig is probably the "Autumn 66 " reference..a lot of these things get lost in translation and the mists of time..Willenhall is technically a part of Wolverhampton.

It might be useful to do a very quick geography/history lesson to explain the Zeppelin /Slade connection.

Noddy Holder parents lived on the Beechdale estate in Bloxwich in Gurney Road..their house was approx 200 yards away from "The Three Men in A Boat" where Robert Plant was lodging with the Bonham family..in 1965 Holder was in a group called Steve Brett and The Mavericks who were quite big locally..they released 3 45s and had done the traditional gigging in Germany thing..at the end of '65 Holder left the group and returned home with the idea of forming a group..Bill Bonham remembers jamming with Holder..Holder joined the 'Nbetweens in March 1966

It was about this time that Listen were formed..Plant and Holder got to know each other..this has led to the stories of Holder "roadieing" for Listen..I think the best explanation for that is that Holder had access o his Dad's window cleaning van and when he was at a loose end he helped Listen out..it's also worth remembering that Plant was supposed to have joined The 'Nbetweens as well as Holder but was regarded as not suitable.

Obviously their paths would continue to pass..I'll deal with the great "You Better Run" saga over the next few days.

Meanwhile..from the Wolverhampton Express and Star 3rd Mach 1966

This only part of the article..I wasn't looking for Listen stuff at the time. when I go to Wolverhampton archives again I'll get the complete article but it gives a flavour of the group.

Sorry if I'm rabbiting on a bit.

"Robert Plonk!?" does that mean something in British terms?

  3. It's always been my understanding that the introduction of the digipak (along with the elimination of the CD longbox) was an environmental step in general. Of course it also makes it easier to replicate the original vinyl packaging but I believe it's an environmental thing more than anything.

Makes more sense, if they wanted to keep with the retro look they would have made little paper sleeves to fit inside the cardboard

  4. My excitement for these impending releases just went down a notch as I see where they're getting the digipak treatment. I'm all for saving the environment but don't see where plastic jewel cases are doing all that much harm. It's been my experience that a lot of digipaks just don't stand up to the punishment many of us give our CDs even if we're not being all that hard on them. The cardboard sleeves are also notorious for scratching up CDs so the least they could have done is using trays in the packaging. You can read more info on the remasters and see the packaging here.

Do you think they're going the enviromental angle or just replicating vinyl album sleeves?

  5. The most dangerous cake recipe

    5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

    4 tablespoons flour

    4 tablespoons sugar

    2 tablespoons cocoa

    1 egg

    3 tablespoons milk

    3 tablespoons oil

    3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

a small splash of vanilla extract

    1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous)..

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

You are going to print this out straight away, aren't you

  6. I was thinking about making myself a Hurricane, but I wasn't sure where I was going to get the passion fruit juice. Then I thought, uh, hello - you have a passion fruit vine in your backyard, smart one! I'm not sure if there's any fruit on it right now, but as soon as there is, it's Hurricane season, baby! :toast:

There is also a liquid mix on the market, I don't know if they have it in your area though.

  7. How's it going "Dzldoc' A.K.A. Charles? Oops, they did it again! I'm very glad and happy that you're getting better everyday my friend. In the mean time, ROCK ON!

Thanx ZFF hope you had a great easter, I know you had a great Birthday celebration :D

  8. Lucky you - that must have been amazing to have Joan duet with him. I saw Bob in the 80s with Tom Petty. He refused to play any of his more known songs and I honestly didn't recognize most of what he was playing (don't even know if they were his songs and I'm a big fan).

Yes it was great! The tempo was upbeat from his studio recordings and like Jahfin said you don't know which Dylan is going to show up :o

Thankfully the one that you could understand his lyrics showed up that night, maybe Joan threatened him with a quick neutering if he screwed up LOL

  9. :o Wow! how did I miss this thread? Must be starting to have senior moments

I saw Dylan at the same venue as zep around the same time in Baton Rouge in the 70's

with special guest Joan Baez. They performed a great duo on "it ain't me babe"

Hard to pick my favorites but some are Lay Lady Lay, Tangled Up in Blue, Hurricane, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Jack of Hearts and many more :D

  10. It's not that the postings themselves are that objectionable - just ignore them if you don't want to read them. However, since this is a picture thread, I think these conversations are a bit out of place - and I'd hate to see this thread disappear because there are some wonderful pictures here.

So ... someone should post a picture of him/herself. Someone who's not me... :D

    :o Aww com'on now, here's a special frame just for you :D

  11. I feel completely fat from all the Cadbury's easter eggs I've had. There is simply no other chocolate that can beat it.

The shops ususally stock way too many chocolate eggs than they sell, so come Tuesday, we'll see plenty of eggs going cheap. Yay :D

    Have you started to

    yet? :D
