John Bonham Fan
Does anyone know where or if there are early recordings of bonham, before led zeppelin. I read in the book Stairway to Heaven that he used to have a very relaxed style before he went on to play in led zeppelin. Thanks.
kaiser
On Robert Plant's best of compilation "66 to Timbuktu" John Bonham plays with Robert Plant on the Band Of Joy's versions of "Hey Joe" & "For What It's Worth". He's not all that relaxed.
John Bonham Fan
Thank you for giving me more info on the subject. I could never have found that out on my own. I have even just found the tracks on youtube.
badgeholder
There is a good bootleg out there with many of Bonzo's pre-Zep sessions. It is unmistakable when Bonzo's playing, he always had his own sound, even then, before the 26" kick.
the-ocean87
The first known (and according to Mick Bonham THE first) recording of John Bonham is a song called "She's a mod" from the band "The Senators". It was recorded in 1964 and was part of a compilation LP called "Brum Beat". You find the song on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlkJC6eoKeA
Walter
^ Very cool! Thank you for posting that. You definitely can hear some of Bonzo's trademark skip beat in there. As he always told Jason, take a 4/4 beat and make it interesting.
