Jahfin
Wilco often gets categorized as "alt.country" which I think is a bit of a misnomer, especially when referring to their later records. With a few very notable exceptions, I think they shed that tag long ago. I definitely don't hear any hits of that sound in this song. BTW, this version comes from a webcast they did for Live On Letterman last year. http://youtu.be/uz6UrYvacQk

Strider
Growing up and living in Southern California, left of the dial meant KCRW(Santa Monica College), KXLU(Loyola Marymount University), and KPCC(Pasadena City College). There was also a radio station out of San Diego or Tijuana called 91X...but their signal was weak so you'd only hear it at night. Anyhow, in the 80s, Suzanne Vega was like Ms. KCRW, they played her so often.

Jahfin
When he performed this on Letterman, the Late Night Orchestra didn't miss a beat when it was over by going directly into "Pride (In the Name of Love)" by U2 as they went to a commercial break. Jahfin
"Medicine Show" by the Dream Syndicate. I never did get to see the Dream Syndicate but I did get to hear Steve Wynn play some of their songs a few years back when he rolled into town with The Baseball Project; which, in addition to Wynn, includes Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Linda Pitmon (aka Mrs. Steve Wynn).
