Not sure how the billing works other than the fact that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Black Keys, Black Sabbath and Jack White are considered headliners. I definitely wouldn't take it as some sort of insult to Black Sabbath. Nothing against the other three acts but none of them have earned what Black Sabbath have earned. Not by a longshot. I'm not really a huge Sabbath fan, I do like them though, so I'm not insulted as a fan. Personally I hate the Beatles but if Paul McCartney wasn't the headliner at a festival like this I would be confused as well. DAS Posted August 1, 2012 Share Posted August 1, 2012 What? No way! The Chili Peppers are very popular but Black Sabbath revolutionized hard rock/metal as we know it. Hendrix was the original hard rocker imo and Zeppelin the best but subsequent generations have followed the Sabbath mold more closely than anything else. In terms of popularity or record sales or touring or what have you they may be about the same (though I haven't checked the stats so i don't know) but to be a revolutionary like Sabbath they are not imo. Jahfin Posted August 1, 2012 Share Posted August 1, 2012 I really don't know for sure but I'm guessing Red Hot Chili Peppers have top billing because they're more closely associated with Lollapalooza than Sabbath, especially since they were one of the first bands to take part in the festival. By them receiving top billing I don't think Perry Farrell (or whoever curated the lineup) is trying to say that any one band or artist is better than the other. I didn't attend but I remember when it came to Walnut Creek in Raleigh. This was around the time that Ice T was catching a lot of shit for his song with Body Count called "Cop Killer" and wasn't allowed to play it (or was at least discouraged from doing so) so Soundgarden was performing it instead.
