dpat
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could direct me to where I could possible view the outtakes of the Zep promo pics they shot in a field (Bonzo's farm?) for either Knebworth or the In Through the Out Door album? (see sample here). I am only guessing that they were taken by Neal Preston. P.S.: I don't need the one where Percy drops his trousers... Thanks! There was one with Plant with his kecks and skiddies around his ankles, a site I'd rather never see again...

Those photographs were taken by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis in the days leading up to the first Knebworth show on Aug 4, 1979. I believe they were staying at The Roebuck Inn in Stevenage at the time, which is about a mile and a half from the festival site. http://edition.cnn.com/2014/12/02/world/gallery/hipgnosis-rolling-stones-pink-floyd/index.html https://www.hypergallery.com/seventies-album-art/knebworth http://www.roebuckinn.com/ Edited December 16, 2016 by SteveAJones

How do you know all this stuff and are able to reply so quickly with very specific details ? !! LOL! ? Seriously, it's damn impressive. Have you thought about writing a book on Zep? I'm naturally inquisitive, well organized, travel and take good notes. Aside from that, I've been at this for a very long time. People encourage me to write a book all the time but at this point I don't think the world needs another Led Zeppelin book. Just to mention further details, you'll note the sky is somewhat dull and overcast in the photos, but deep blue and inviting in the promotional materials for the album. That's because Hipgnosis essentially "photo shopped" the original photos to incorporate a more inviting sky. They were seldom together that Summer, so another photo shoot was out of the question. Edited to add: I have reconfirmed they did check in to the Roebuck on Aug 2nd, so these photos were most likely taken prior to their sound check that evening. They arrived at the festival site after 6 pm for a sound check lasting less than an hour. Edited December 17, 2016 by SteveAJones
poobear
Surely as these photos were the basis of the poster sold at the event, and the centre fold of the official programme they must have been taken at least a few weeks before the event, to allow the for the "photoshopping" (joke) and subsequent production of the merchandise before the event..... Didn't Dave Lewis quote a mid July date for this photo session in one of his many books ???
