  1. Wasting Light Live from Studio 606 In an interesting marketing approach, the Foo Fighters performed their entire new album "Wasting Light" and put up a YouTube video of the performance. The video was shot in the Foo Fighters' Studio 606. The Foos have done their best to get out the word however they can. They released a documentary on the history of the band "Back and Forth," which aired in theaters on April 5 along with a live, 3D performance of the album. The documentary later aired commercial-free on various cable channels on April 8. They've also used viral videos, contests, secret shows, social media and more in order to promote "Wasting Light." If you still haven't gotten your Foo fill, they're releasing an album of covers, "Medium Rare," as a limited-edition vinyl for Record Store Day tomorrow, April 16. I had the chance to see the Foo Fighters live about a decade ago when they were on tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. While the Foo Fighters opened the show at Washington state music venue The Gorge, they ended up delivering the more memorable, energetic performance, including climbing the sound booth. It's fun to see them still energized a decade later. You can read more about the Foo Fighters' "Wasting Light" promotional efforts here.
  2. Back From The Dead: The Tea Party The planets have aligned, good karma is abundant everywhere and yin is completely in sync with yang. Get out your incense, tablas and a glass of absinthe because The Tea Party have reunited! The Windsor, Ont. trio, who split up in 2004, will play a bunch of festival dates this summer, according to CBC News. They'll perform at Sarnia, Ont.'s Bayfest on July 9 and it'll be the first time they've played together in six years. They've not yet confirmed what other festivals they'll play. Back in February, CHARTattack spoke to singer/guitarist Jeff Martin about the possibility of a Tea Party reunion, which he coyly said there had been "some lines of communication between mutual friends" and people hoping for a reunion "should never say never." Looks like there's been some significant hustling over the last few months. Martin released an album with his new band, Jeff Martin 777, earlier this year. He's playing some solo dates this spring, and you can see him here: April 15 Broome, Australia @ The Beach Bar at Divers Tavern May 10 Kincumber, Austraia @ Lizottes May 11 Newcastle, Australia @ Lizottes May 12 Cronulla, Australia @ Brass Monkey May 13 Windsor, Australia @ The Vault May 14 Bulli, Australia @ Heritage Hotel May 15 Ringwood, Australia @ Coach & Horses You can see the Jeff Martin 777 here: May 1 Brisbane, Australia @ The Hi-Fi Ballroom May 3 Eumundi, Australia @ Joe's Waterhole May 4 Byron Bay, Australia @ The Northern May 5 Adelaide, Australia @ Fowlers Live May 6 Melbourne, Australia @ Prince Bandroom May 7 Sydney, Australia @ Gaelic Theatre May 21 Perth, Australia @ Rosemount Hotel
  3. CBC's 1 Day to capture snapshot of Canada CBC is asking Canadians to haul out their video cameras for a project that will provide a snapshot of the country on a single Saturday in April. The 1 Day/1 Jour project is a cross-Canada initiative by CBC and Radio-Canada that will see every eligible video posted online and many incorporated into a two-hour documentary to air in August. "We want Canadians to film moments from their day: everything from a kid losing a tooth, to proposing to your girlfriend, to baseball tryouts, gazing at the stars, working the night shift, walking your dog," said Leora Eisen, 1 Day supervising director. Everyday life 'compelling' Organizers are seeking everything from simple everyday moments to monumental events in an attempt to provide a picture of how Canadians live on April 30, 2011. "We're used to glimpsing other people's lives on YouTube and it's compelling," Eisen added. To encourage participation, there will be a contest for the best video, with a prize including a trip to the debut screening and an iPad 2. The two-hour documentary, slated for broadcast Aug. 21, will be a collaboration of the footage from CBC crews and amateur submissions. Earlier projects, such as YouTube's Life in a Day and the CBC documentary Feeding New York, have been set in a 24-hour period. Eisen says she hopes the editing process will help draw out the things that Canadians share. For example, children in New Brunswick and children in Alberta might be in soccer tryouts on the same day. "It really is all about catching a moment in time and flavour of the country and the CBC's in a unique position to do that," she said. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94-lcWBBILY
