  1. They should give him a job on XM. That's one celebrity DJ I actually wouldn't mind hearing.
  2. I saw them at Memorial Hall in Raleigh back in February and also love the record. My comment was in response to the not so well founded "rumor" about the upcoming Zeppelin reunion.
  3. I kept reading about how bad this movie supposedly is which what took me so long to finally get around to renting it. I enjoyed it so I'm guessing all of the criticism had to do with people thinking it didn't live up to the first Iron Man somehow.
  4. Rolling Stone files their report on the Hepatitis C benefit concert here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNNXd_ywLso&feature=player_embedded
  5. It's more than a little telling about the current state of MTV that their anniversary is being celebrated on VH1 Classic and not MTV itself. From RollingStone.com: Original VJ Mark Goodman recalls network's first days: 'I think we only had 300 videos' By ANDY GREENE MTV VJs Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn and JJ Jackson Mark Weiss/WireImage For original MTV VJ Mark Goodman, the news that music network is celebrating its 30th anniversary this weekend is hard to fathom. "It's freaking weird," he tells Rolling Stone. "I've lived like three lifetimes since then. It's just so long ago, and yet it also seems like yesterday. It's a weird number – and it's hard to believe that we're still talking about this 30 years down the road." MTV launched on August 1st, 1981 at 12:01 a.m. The first images broadcast were the launch of the Apollo 11, followed by a video for the Buggles song "Video Killed The Radio Star." The network has gone through countless permutations since then, but this weekend VH1 Classic will commemorate MTV's founding with a three-day marathon of footage from the 1980s, including a re-broadcast of the network's first hour, starting Saturday at 6 a.m. To read the rest of the article, click here.

    The X Games

The Bleacher Report website has a cool retrospective of X Games wipeouts past. 25 Craziest X Games Wipeouts By Ed Novelo I'm having second thoughts... Don't look now, but X Games 17 is just a couple days away, and that undoubtedly means we'll be seeing a whole new set of thrills and spills along the way. This year's games will surely be as "extreme" as ever, so I thought I'd take a look at some of the more memorable crashes from years past. I'll even throw in some crashes from the Winter X-Games just for the hell of it. You know your bloodlust is insatiable—don't deny it. So here we go. The following is the 25 Craziest X Games Wipeouts. Note: None of the following people died as a result of these crashes.

I haven't read them either but I've read enough of Klosterman's work to know that he has his tongue planted firmly in cheek. For the more avid fanboys with no sense of humor, I could see where they might take offense.
  8. I have no idea, this is an image of the album I found online. I haven't seen the cover itself since the early 80s.
  9. I really have no idea. The one and only time I ever saw it was way back in the early 80s.
  10. I has to be true, after all he and the Band of Joy are apparently having problems moving tickets and are playing to near empty venues.
  11. Pickwick was the same way. I have a Hendrix release on vinyl from that label that is very iffy. Sounds like someone in their garage with a wah-wah pedal doing a Hendrix impersonation and not a very impressive one at that. To top it off, it's all instrumental.
  12. Heard a bit of this on XM's Deep Tracks channel last night but not all of it. Strange to hear the Allmans backing Natalie Cole but it worked. From jambands.com: Phil Lesh, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Natalie Cole, Billy Gibbons and More Join The Allman Brothers Band at the Beacon Photos by Dino Perrucci Phil Lesh, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Natalie Cole, Billy Gibbons and several other notable players sat in with The Allman Brothers Band at New York’s Beacon Theater last night. The show—The Allman Brothers Band’s only confirmed summer date— was a collaboration with the American Liver Foundation on the Tune In to Hep C, a public health campaign to help raise awareness of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Gregg Allman suffers from Hep C and recently received a liver transplant. Not coincidentally, the show fell on the eve of the eve of World Hepatitis Day. The Allman Brothers Band opened their set with a stretch of live favorites, including “Don’t Want You No More,” “It’s Not My Cross To Bear,” Dr. John’s “Walk on Guilded Splinters,” “One Way Out,” Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” “Statesboro Blues,” Bob Dylan’s “Blind Willie McTell” and “Black Hearted Woman. ” After a jam based around the Grateful Dead’s “That’s It For the Other One,” The Allman Brothers Band opened their stage to guests. Singer Natalie Cole, who suffers from hepatitis C, took the stage along with Warren Haynes Band saxophonist Ron Holloway and Gov’t Mule keyboardist Danny Louis for Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Cole and Holloway remained onstage for a cover of The Band’s “The Weight” while saxophonist and frequent ABB guest Bill Evans appeared for a set-closing version of “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” The group’s second set turned into something of a classic rock revue. Surprise guests David Crosby and Graham Nash opened the set with Derek Trucks on electric guitar for “Teach Your Children,” a song they originally recorded with Jerry Garcia on pedal steel guitar. Crosby (who suffers from hepatitis and received a successful liver transplant) and Nash remained onstage for acoustic versions of “Guinnevere” and “Find The Cost Of Freedom.” The members of The Allman Brothers and Phil Lesh then joined Crosby and Nash for both the Crosby song “Cowboy Movie” and CSNY’s “Almost Cut My Hair” (Danny Louis also appeared on the later song). Interestingly enough, Lesh, Garcia, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann performed on the original studio version of the song on If I Could Only Remember My Name. As Crosby and Nash left the stage, Lesh led the members of The Allman Brothers Band and Louis through the Grateful Dead classics “Shakedown Street,” “Sugaree” and “Franklin’s Tower.” Lesh suffers from hepititus C and received a live transplant in the late ‘90s. Crosby was one of the first musicians who helped him through the process and appeared at some early Phil Lesh & Friends shows. Natalie Cole returned to the stage at the end of the set to sing on “Whipping Post.” All of the evening’s guests then returned along with Devon Allman for a classic two-song encore, “Midnight Rider” and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.” The final song featured an additional guest, ZZ Top guitarist Billy F Gibbons, on guitar. The Allman Brothers Band does not have any scheduled dates. *** Here’s a look at the evening’s setlist as it appears in our Box Scores section Allman Brothers Band Tune In To Hep C Benefit Concert Beacon Theater, NYC Set I Don’t Want You No More > It’s Not My Cross To Bear, Walk on Guilded Splinters, One Way Out, Into the Mystic, Statesboro Blues, Blind Willie McTell, Black Hearted Woman> Other One Jam, A Change Is Gonna Come*, The Weight^, In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed$ Set II Teach Your Children**, Guinnevere**, Find The Cost Of Freedom**, Cowboy Movie^^, Almost Cut My Hair$$, Shakedown Street%, Sugaree%, Franklins Tower%, Whipping Post%% Encore Midnight Rider^^^, May The Circle Be Unbroken^^^^ Notes *with Natalie Cole, Ron Halloway and Danny Louis ^with Natalie Cole and Ron Halloway $with Bill Evans **with David Crosby and Graham Nash ^^with David Crosby, Graham Nash and Phil Lesh $$ with David Crosby, Graham Nash, Phil Lesh and Danny Louis %with Phil Lesh and Danny Louis %%with Natalie Cole ^^^with all guests and Devon Allman ^^^^with all guests, Devon Allman and Billy Gibbons Source Allmanbrothersband.com

    Have you read them?
  14. As per usual, it looks like Rolling Stone likes to play fast and loose with the term "rock star". As for the last one, that looks more like Billy Corgan.
  15. Artwork for the new record.
  16. I was referring to a friends' copy. I don't own it. Not sure if it's any help as to the source but I'm pretty sure this is the artwork from the version I heard:
  17. From MailOnline.com: By INDERDEEP BAINS Scrabbling around the car for a new CD to listen to on the road could soon be a thing of the past. Ford hopes to usher in a digital age for in-car entertainment by binning CD players in its new models. The company plans to help drivers to access their libraries of digital music via the internet. Old school: Ford hopes to usher in a digital age for in-car entertainment by binning CD players in its new models It has become the first mainstream manufacturer to scrap the in-car CD multichanger. The car maker’s latest Focus model will instead include a USB socket allowing digital music players to be plugged in. The new cars will have the Sync ‘infotainment hub’ that lets drivers access their music library through the internet by plugging in a device called a dongle, which enables Wi-Fi. This would facilitate using devices such as iPods, iPhones and other digital music players. The in-car computer ‘hub’ can then access digital libraries stored on the internet, be it through Spotifiy or Apple’s iCloud. Ford expects two million Focus cars in Europe to have its Sync system by 2015 Sheryl Connelly, Global Trends and Futuring manager at Ford, said the move was necessary if the company wanted to keep up with the needs of its customers. 'In-car entertainment technology is moving digital more rapidly than almost any other element of the vehicle experience,' she said. 'The in-car CD player - much like pay telephones - is destined to fade away in the face of exciting new technology.' Ford said sales of in-car CD players were declining rapidly, in line with falling sales of the discs. In 2010, sales of physical music albums fell 12.4 per cent, while those of digital versions rose by 30.6 per cent in the UK. Ford expects two million cars in Europe to have its Sync system by 2015.
