  1. Baker never did anything that impressed me the way John did. I know he's a talented drummer, but even so he leaves me cold. I know a little something about drumming and I listen to some of the best in the world, Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham, Terry Bozzio, Simon Phillips, Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Colaiuta to name just a few so it's not like I have no taste at all when it comes to my opinion of him. He seems like an egotistical asshole with a bad attitude where other drummers are concerned.
  2. I imagine this is what it looked like way back in early 68 in that tiny room, Talkin about extraordinaire, here's a track that came to us we got together a long time ago couldn't afford a big room we got in a little room and started playin and one of the first things that we did made up our mind that we should stick together sun rain or shine and this was it. Robert Plant Feb-13-1975
  3. Steve may be clean, but he is boring. After only a few listens he gets old real fast. Jimmy Page is 20 years older than Vai and is STILL far more widely known. I hope that gets my point through.
  4. 26 hours 32 minutes of no Quarter and Dazed and confused from 1973 through 75!
  5. I saw Jimmy on both Page and Plant tours in Boston and again in Mansfield Mass. I had great seats for 2 of the 3 shows I saw, 5'th row center aisle in Boston and 12'th row in the middle of the bowl at Mansfield. Jimmy was brilliant both nights but much more so in the second tour. I was blown away at well he played. I didn't think Jimmy needed Mr. Thompson for the first Page and Plant tour and was pretty good but hot damn! Jimmy was on Fire during the second tour.
  6. Yes, He looked out for himself and damn everyone else.
  7. Coverdale didn't "resort" to being cheesy, those mannerisms are all him, it's his natural persona.
  8. Coverdale sucks always did always will. If it were in the cards for Zeppelin to have one last real hurrah and put out one more great album it should have been with this material and included Jones. If they had put this album out with Robert and Jones it would have been killer and to this day it would have been a fav Zeppelin album. Instead, we got Jimmy, who is playing very well but certainly going through the motions with Coverdale. This was a missed opportunity to do a true comeback album. The unledded stuff pales in comparison to what could have been.
  9. I will never "get" Coverdale, I hate his whole demeanor and his voice does nothing for me at all. Jimmy plays some really great stuff on that album though.
  10. What I got from it is this, He agrees with the post he quoted, The tour sucked because the band wasn't in that good a shape but fans will excuse that for the most part and he also says that an essential element for a good concert is for the band to fun onstage which isn't happening on this tour.
  11. I wonder what news the guy on the phone heard? Pretty sure I know but well, icbw
  12. Uh Uh, Jimmy's playing is extremely loose and with all the improv and changes he made while playing some sloppiness is not only expected its accepted.
  13. Funny thing, I posted this very same video last week in its own thread and it was deleted because its been posted here many times before.
  14. This is all about the perception of time and how it feels to, the audience, the band and the home listener. Think about the difference between being there in the audience, being backstage and listening to this at home. The Kid says he hates drum solos not just Bonham's but all drum solos so he's gonna complain no matter what, but most of the audience is cheering and seems to be having a good time, Why? because they are seeing Led Zeppelin. I think its a very small portion of folks who were bored to tears. So, if you're there, 18 to 30 minutes out of the entire time you're there isn't that long perception wise unless you have absolutely no patience at all. Think about how time is flying for the band. For them, being backstage for 18 to 30 minutes would fly by because they want a break but have the impetus to get back out there. Most likely 18 minutes turned out to be too short a break so it turned into 30. Time flies when you are having fun, So for most of the audience who are having fun its not so bad. Time can really fly when you are very rushed and busy so for the band these breaks probably felt very short. Sitting at home by yourself, time will drag far slower than if you were there. You also have to take into account the amount of energy it took Bonzo to pull these off every show, boring or not its no easy feet and more appreciation and respect needs to be levied on his behalf.
  15. Its a great album, Jimmy's playing was as good as ever. The riffs are funky and powerful the solo's are soaring but Coverdale ruins it for me. I really don't like his voice at all. If you had Robert singing all these songs it would have been far more enjoyable and memorable. To me watching Coverdale is like watching Rich Little do a bad impression of Robert Plant. He seems so pompous and conceited I just can't take it. This should have been the project he did with Plant
  16. C'mon sath, you know I know he was just quoting the original song. Its such a sign of the times and strange to hear it because he'd never even attempt it or get away with it in today's PC world.
  17. There would have to be some editing to remove the racist lyric Robert sings regarding the game 7up. Anyone else notice it. I have never heard him use that word before or after.
  18. you beat me too it! I was going to say how about Hots on For Nowhere!
