  1. These two remind me so much of each other.

The DO don't they! Except I think Ross did a better job in the first one. In this one he has the shadows so Jimmy's head looks like it's not quite connected to his body and it's not very flattering to his jowls...if it weren't for that it would be a pretty cool pic. I LOVE the ones of him sitting on his guitar case!!

  2. Spacewoman--

You have some GREAT pics...but I really did like this one a lot, with the young/old side by side--looks really kinda like the song really DOES remain the same??!!!??!! especially in regards to the guitar playing/stances/etc in these pics. :)

    Sharon

    Yeah, that really IS cool!

  3. Apologies ladies if these have already been posted! I checked the Ross thread but for reasons unknown to me it is locked

Anyway, if you haven't seen these...enjoy! They are incredible!!

  4. The German Cross

Earlier in this thread I discussed Jimmy's recollection of having been spat upon in Scotland

for wearing the German Cross whilst touring with The Yardbirds in July 1966. A photograph

of Jimmy wearing the German Cross has been found:

    JimmyPageGermanCross.jpg

Nice pic. It's very difficult to see the cross. Is it just an equal armed cross or does it have what is now commonly refered to as a swasitka on it? It's a shame that that symbol is now associated with such tragedy.

  5. Thanks guys.

My next big hurdle is getting a job. Yes, I want to teach, which means I will be substituting for the entire semester. There were only two openings at semester--and I think really experienced teachers got the jobs because none of my friends and I got them. : ( I am going to make nice big posters with my name, phone number, email, and "substitute ID number" so I can post them in all of the schools' teachers lounges.

I'm so broke I can't even pay my internet, phone or car insurance bills. (My mom is giving me car insurance money for Christmas...D'oh! Thanks mom...I can keep driving.)

Many, many congratulations!! You are going to be an AWESOME teacher!! Sending you best wishes for a fast and successful job search. Someday you'll look back on these lean times with fondness, you'll remember the sense of accomplishment and the excitment of not knowing exactly what lies in your future.

Love and Light to you Manderlyh

  6. Hey Medhb, how are you? Wanna take that trip to FLA or maybe "dixie" with me? lol...winter is for kids!

Where in dixie do you guys suggest anyway?

Hey Tang! How are ya?! If we hop a plane we're leaving for a tropical island...pack light - your sarong, swimsuit, and flip flops are all that's required!

  7. Nice thread! To all the winter haters...here's the good part. Tomorrow the days begin to grow longer and it won't be long until it is the springtime of the season again.

    Blessed Be....

  8. Saw jupiter and venus, next to the crescent moon in -south carolina, was cool, you could see them early on in the evening too, before even the stars were seen.

Wasn't it amazing?! Saw it from NJ...clear sky, not a star to be seen but the sliver of moon and Venus blazing brilliantly while Saturn was just above it. Tonight they were visable also but last night was the most amazing because of the proximity to the moon. I was mesmerized....

  9. Thank you Suz, thank you very much.

I spared everyone the details but I would like to make people aware that it is a severe crime and it does have negative effects on the person. It goes so much more beyond my internal, violated wrecked soul, it provides a stigma for us, by those who never understand the brutality of the crime.

Many, besides my mother, think it's not a big deal, and I wonder what is a big deal then. I can't trust some of my friends because they'll say 'oh that's bad' and then, ten seconds later, they'll focus on someone else so much more. It's okay though because I don't need their condolences. I support my friends, all the time, but they don't really return the favor too much. So I don't really talk about my problems so much anymore.

Immature guys don't want anything to do with you: they shame the sexual crime victim because she is soiled, and she must have so much emotional baggage. They don't want to deal with her, they've got problems of their own. They run for the hills. They give you the chance, you open up, then you become ostracized immediately. It takes a noble and kind man to comfort you and make you realize the beauty of a relationship, it doesn't take just a man or a testosterone-fueled teenage junkie. I don't want any relationship right now.

Family members tell you to shush up about it: don't tell the school social worker, don't tell the therapist, don't tell your trusted friends, you'll ruin our reputation. You'll make us seem like crazy psychopaths, shut up. Then they would say 'why did you wear this?' 'why didn't you say that' and try to excuse this man's actions. Only my father cares and says, "if only I knew and could have called the police"

We are lucky we survived because we could have easily been killed. Many of us victims have a hard time trusting anybody because if it seems like no one cares when you've been assaulted and raped, why else would they care about you? We become abandoned, we feel shame, and we feel a strong anxiety in any situation which will drag us down again to the same standpoint. We become wary and sensitive of our surroundings.

We wake up with terrifying, vivid nightmares as if we're living it over again. The flashbacks reel back in our mind like a detailed movie. Anything can trigger this: people joking about rape, a violent movie scene, a scent, a yell. It affects us so much that we literally are shaking, thinking about it to the point of illness and depression, tumultuously shaking our eating and sleeping habits to abnormality. To cope with it, many have abused drugs, became prostitutes, and committed suicide.

We have felt alone, and I have felt alone for many years because it's something no one can understand unless they've been through it, and many can ridicule you for, twisting it and finding some way to blame it on you. It was difficult to open up.

But, I have fought and conquered this psychological burden since I was 12 years old. And I needed to look after myself, so I need to gain independence and strength on my own. I am to the point of feeling liberated, and so are many rape victims who then realize they are survivors. They say the only thing worse than being raped or sexually assaulted is being murdered.

And I felt like I needed to open up because it shouldn't be taboo and it's something people cannot be ignorant about. It effects children, teenagers, adults, and elderly people. It affects males and females. It affects family members and strangers. It affects prostitutes and nuns. It's a global act of brutal domination and that's why it's a common tool against the innocent in the worst of battlefields.

And it's condolences like yours, Suz, an understanding like yours that helps us become survivors after we became victims.

And to anyone who has been victimized, who's a bit timid to share it, you don't have to and you're a magnificent person who just got caught in the worst of circumstances. You may feel like a victim, but trust me, you will be alright. You've already been through the worst and now it comes to just straightening the aftermath after such a downfall. You will become a survivor. Just find that beacon of hope, even though it became obfuscated.

Oh Honey, what you are sharing with all of us here is you unfolding out of your cocoon and blooming into the beautiful butterfly you were always meant to be. I'm so touched that you have shared this story with us.

We probably talk to people every day who have been through similar tragedies and we aren't even aware of it. We can be blissfully unaware because so many victims do exactly what your mom would have liked you to do....brush it under the rug. But it seems that what many of us don't understand is that it isn't dust that you can just get rid of, it's now become part of your essence, who you are, and how you view life.

I am so proud of you for making it to this point in your recovery and I just know you will go even further! You are such a caring individual, maybe someday you will work in a field that counsels victims of aggression and abuse.

Plus, you are tearing down the walls that are the stigma to these types of crimes. If someone pushed you down on the sidewalk and kicked you in the stomach everyone would be enraged! And you would tell people about it with indignation, not shame! Our culture has made sexual assault something 'dirty'....and it is a shame that the victim is made to feel like THEY are the dirty ones! Oh Honey, keep your head proud and keep seeing your therapist. You have come so far! You have soooo much to be proud of!! It's people like you who can share their stories that will change the way other people view and deal with these situations. And one day, the world will be a better place.

Many Hugs to you....Love, Light and Blessings....Medhb

  10. Well, I voted yesterday...since I figure it is going to be crazy Tuesday, I decided to beat the

rush and take advantage of California's early voting.

Meanwhile, while the rest of you wait for Tuesday, someone sent me this and I'm

passing it along...although you might have already seen this.

    Dear Red States...

If you manage to steal the election again, we've decided

we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and

we're taking the other Blue States with us.

In case you aren't aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon,Washington,

Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We

believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially

to the people of the new country of New California.

    To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You

    get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states

    pay their fair share.

We get Tina Fey and Christiane Amanpour.

You get Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the

Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a

    bunch of under-educated single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and

anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at

once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have

kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no

purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their

children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and

hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our

    resources in Bush's Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent

of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple

and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of

America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners)

90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most

of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and

condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale,

    Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88

percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care

costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the

tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern

Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh,

Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was

actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred

unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say

that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved

in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people

with higher morals then we lefties.

By the way, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt

weed they grow in Texas and Arkansas.

    Peace out,

    Blue States

    :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Love it! And actually believe it might not be far from the truth. I suspect that if McCain 'wins' this election that the National Guard better be prepared...just sayin.

Gee, I have never had to wait long at all! I live in a small suburb so hopefully I get through the line fast. I'm going before work and don't want to be TOO late!

  11. I am gonna vote either Tuesday morning or afternoon. I've never been this excited. And Rock Action, good for you. We all should vote our conscience.

I think a lot of people feel that way Suz. This isn't any ordinary election. I feel that this election will shape our future, it can make or break us. I haven't seen people so excited and edgy for an election in all the time I've been voting! I'll bet the turnout breaks records....we'll see :)

  12. Yep.

And not for anyone in this dog and pony show known as Republicans vs. Democrats.

I know many will give me the same old "you're throwing your vote away" line. From BOTH sides. Too bad, folks. Someone has to make a stand, and I don't believe in either "side".

    Carry on... B)

Actually I admire that Rock. Good for you!

  13. I'll be joining that celebration!! Tuesday morning I'm hitting the polls, dinner with friends after work, then quick dash home to glue ourselves to the telly :D

  14. Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin both played at the First Atlanta International Pop Festival, in Gainsville, Georgia on 5th July 1969 and then again at the Texas International Pop Festival at Lewisville, Texas on 31st August 1969.

    atlantapopfestival1969.jpgtexasipf.jpg

Robert also mentioned Janis Joplin when the band were being inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 1995.

    Meg

GREAT pics Meg, Sheesh, look at that line up for labor Day. What I'd give to see that show!

  15. Wow, a talented beautiful young lady with a real retro guitar, it's really amazing that you find these kind of people here.

Wonder how you sound like since you get inspired by the greatest band ever.

    Rock on, goodlookin',

    and get us cooking.

Yeah, what a cutie! And a talented musician also! Tres' cool :)

  16. It doesn't have that info, Medhb--I just bought it at Cardiff Castle a few weeks ago. And alas, they were renovating the damn Burges rooms at the Castle when I tried to see them as well!!!

The V&A has some great Burges furniture, and, I just discovered this visit, some really fabulous silver designed by him as well.

Thanks for the info Alison! I'm going to get the book anyway since I am an admirerer of his works. Ah, that sux you missed the rooms due to renovations. Hopefully, you'll get another chance to visit. Much more difficult for me across the pond.

Yes! I've seen some of his silver works and they are incredible! He was certainly multi-talented. I'll have to see if I can check out some of his furniture designs, I'm sure they are masterpieces as well.

  17. Really? Thanks for that, I hadn't heard of it before and will see if I can track down a copy of the program. I have a video clip of Jimmy meeting with two representatives

of the Gibson Custom Shop in the Tower House basement. He explains to them a bit

about his Les Paul #1 before allowing them to take possession of it for the purpose

    of manufacturing replicas.

That must have been a tad nerve wracking for him to hand over  I wonder if he has #1 insured? After all it's priceless. Could you tell us for how much it's insured SAJ?

  18. You know, I never examined the faces of any of the people he's helped to see if they have noticed,

but a few other people I know also see the resemblance.

Here is one of my favorite pics. Stephen Wolfram (mathematica) on a spiral staircase. I am a Wolfram on my mother's side. My mom says there aren't very many of us left in the world.

    pose.jpg

Very cool! Sounds like you could post some interesting stuff on the 'Things about me' thread!

  19. Also, there is the BBC Open University 'Arts and History' TV programme which features a tour of Tower House. It's been shown often on TV....it even credits Jimmy at the end. I have it on video....shame I only have a DVD player these days.

Awesome!! I'll have to see if our library has that. Luckily, the last telly I purchased has a DVD and a VHS player in it. I knew that VHS players were rapidly going away and I wanted to ensure I could still view my tapes.

Thanks for that info! It was really magnanimous of Jimmy to open the house to those who are interested in Burges' works. He appreciates fellow appreciators :)

  20. Do you mind if I say, I love you!!!

Thanks so much for the staircase pic.

I've been meaning to tell you for a while, I love your sig file.

My baby pic with my white knitted dress with the two huge pom poms always has me saying...

I've got balls. great big balls, lol

I should also mention, this is strange and exciting...

there is a man in Halifax who looks a lot like Charles Manson did in his craziest times...

but you know what this guy does?

He helps crippled people out of their cars into St. Mary's Basilica.

Awwww, thank you sweetheart!! That was a wondrous shot you posted of the Arab room too. Almost makes you dizzy doesn't it? The detail that Burges designed is incredibly microscopic and palatial at the same time.

Ahhhhh, that is funny! You're going to St. Mary's Basilica and what looks like a crazed mass murderer comes to assist you to out of your car....must be a joltingly pleasant surprise, LOL!
