The Dark Lord
I think that the top 20 is a few too many, and assuming that a group's entire discography is not an option, I would go with something like this, in no particular order (top 10). These are not necessarily my favorites, but instead are albums that I think contributed significantly to the genre of rock music: Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin IV Black Sabbath Black Sabbath: Paranoid Jimi Hendrix: Are You Experienced Deep Purple: In Rock Jethro Tull: Aqualung The Beatles: Abbey Road Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon Yes: The Yes Album There are tons of others obviously, but these I hold in high regard. kingzoso
I would also say that I think that all of Led Zeppelin's albums would/should be in the top 20 (with the exception of "Coda- even though I Love that album as well). This is in no particular order (just random albums right of the top of My mind): Masters of Reality - Black Sabbath : After Forever/Lord of this World/Sweet Leaf The Beatles (White Album) - The Beatles : Dear Prudence/Happiness is a Warm Gun Get Your Wings - Aerosmith : Lord of the Thighs/Seasons of Wither Moving Pictures - Rush : Vital Signs Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix Experience : Castles Made of Sand/Are You Experienced? Piece of Mind - Iron Maiden : Flight of Icarus/The Trooper Screaming for Vengeance - Judas Priest : Screaming for Vengeance 2112 - Rush : 2112/Something for Nothing/Passage to Bangkok On Through the Night - Def Leppard : When the Walls Came Tumbling Down/Hello America Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack - Various : Hard to Choose Grease Soundtrack - Various : Hard to Choose Purple Rain - Prince and the Revolution : Beautiful Ones/Darling Nikki Manic Nirvana - Robert Plant : I Cried/Hard to Choose After That One Coverdale/Page - Coverdale/Page : Hard to Choose Disraeli Gears - Cream : Tales of Brave Ulysses Let it Bleed - The Rolling Stones : Monkey Man The Last in Line - DIO : The Last in Line Powerslave - Iron Maiden: Hard to Choose Machine Head - Deep Purple : Hard to Choose Destroyer - Kiss: Hard to Choose As you might have noticed I also chose the song(s) that seems to be My favorite at the time of this Post. Some were, of course, Hard to Choose... I will have to say that My favorite Song of All-Time is.......... "The Star Spangled Banner"!!! That is a joke on My part to those that read some of the posts I post (however, I do Love the Song and its Meaning and Resonance). Plantpothead
Just a little note, I am at present reading a book on the 1001 albums you must listen to before you die......This book starts from the 50s. Most of these albums (my own included) are our own personal favourites, and most are from the 60s upwards, which isn't really the point. The thread is "Of all time" I'm sure Dean Martin, Evis, Sinatra, Tom Jones, Small Faces, Allman Bros, Zappa and thousands of others fit into the category. I am no music expert but some of the albums listed here I have never even heard of, never mind listened to.
