Sticks of Fire Posted December 7, 2015 Share Posted December 7, 2015 I have brought this subject up before over the years but it's interesting that 2, Led Zeppelin concerts from early 1970 were broadcast on the radio. One was the famous Royal Albert Hall from January 9th and the other was from March 7, 1970 at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland. This means someone was given access to the mixing board to record the shows and then broadcast them. ( I do realize that the Vancouver show from March 1970 was supposedly a radio broadcast, but I have my doubts as it sounds more like a soundboard). For a long time roughly only 45 minutes of the RAH show was available, until it was professionally released (although still not complete). For the March 7, 1970 concert we had 90 minutes from a nice audience source, and for many years there the first 30 minutes of the Montreux show was circulating from the radio broadcast. About then years ago the last half hour of the show surfaced. My question is, is there any more information about these two broadcasts? Sam, do you know? During the Montreux concert a French DJ can be heard during "Dazed" talking about Robert's microphone having issues. Do we know when these were broadcast? Were they broadcast live as it happened or recorded and broadcast at a later date?These would really nice finds if original tapes could be found and the concerts were complete. I haven't been able to track down the broadcast info for the Royal Albert Hall '70. As far as I know, only Montreux 1970 was broadcast from those Swiss gigs but not sure of the exact air dates. Whole Lotta Love / How Many More Times were re-broadcast within the past decade. When I looked into it many years ago, the Montreux/Claude Nobs archives said whatever master tapes existed were supposedly given to the band at the time. (I don't know what might still exist today).Swiss Radio still has at least a portion of Super Pop Montreux '70 in their archives and you can hear their source for Whole Lotta Love. [link] (requires Flash)I agree that Vancouver '70 is just a raw soundboard. It was probably played on the radio at some point back then, and was then labeled as being a radio source. Montreux 70 is one of my favorite shows and the existing tape(s) are very enjoyable, but would be great to see the whole Swiss Radio portion avail itself one day! If what you said is correct, and the last half hour was broadcast in the past ten yearsthen someone out there has access to at least some of the Soundboard recording of this concert if not all of the show. SolitudeIsBliss Posted December 10, 2015 Share Posted December 10, 2015 I was reading archived newspapers from June 1970 when the band was playing in Iceland, two newspapers said that the first half of the show was to brodcasted on the radio but sadly nothing ever came of it.
