  1. YES!!! HE DID IT!!! Djokovic beats Nadal to win his first Wimbledon championship and take over the #1 slot! Now I just have to finish laundry and it's off to the record swap meet to score more bootlegs. Dazed cat posted some Robin Trower live clips from 1975, and it made me realize I don't have any Robin Trower boots.
  2. Thank you zep head. I never knew there were so many sources for the June 23, 1977 show. I knew the September 4, 1970 had many different sources, but all the other LA Forum bootlegs seem to come from the same one or two sources, Mike Millard being the primary source for the 75 and 77 shows. Of course, when I first got my cassette copy of the first part of the For Badgeholders Only album, and later the actual albums themselves, in 1977, I didn't know who Mike Millard was. I didn't find out about the Millard tapes and what he did to get the quality of recordings he got until the late-80 's, when all those Led Zeppelin bootleg guides started coming out. "Listen to this, Eddie" had become famous worldwide, and because it was then common knowledge that Millard had taped just about every big rock show at the Forum from 1975 on, and because the sound on my For Badgeholders Only lp's was so good, I naturally assumed it had to be Millard's tape. Even when I read that he had mistakenly left the pause button on for the start of the June 23, 77 show, it didn't cause me to question the source of my For Badgeholders Only albums. Because the albums start with Sick Again, and don't include TSRTS, that tied in with what I read...I figured he didn't realize his mistake until after TSRTS. Later, when some stories about Mike Millard and the Badgeholders show suggested he missed everything from TSRTS to SIBLY, I figured people got the info wrong...I've learned never to trust what you read on Wikipedia and the internet. Which brings me to today...it was just such an internet music blog where I read that the Dragonfly For Badgeholders Only albums were not sourced from Mike Millard's tapes. Since I had found this blog to be usually pretty accurate before, I gave this bit of info more validity than normal. Which is why I came here, thinking Sam, or Steve, or any one of the bootleg obsessives here, would be able to confirm or deny. So now that you've confirmed it's not Mike Millard, I have several questions. 1.) Who was the source...does anyone know his name or where he's from? 2.) Did he tape other shows, Led Zeppelin or otherwise? 3.) If there are 5 or 6 different sources for the June 23 show, what about the other nights? Why isn't there a better source for the 22 show then? 4.) Did some special message get sent out to the taping community that Keith Moon was gonna show up at the 23rd? Is that why there's multiple sources for that show and not the others at the Forum that week? 5.) Why were the LA tapers so much more on the ball than New York or Chicago tapers? With the exception of the 22nd, the whole week of the 77 LA Forum shows are available in good to great quality sound. Contrast that with the run of MSG shows in NY in 77...I have yet to hear a decent audience tape from those MSG shows.
  3. Watching Djokovic kick Nadal's ass in the Wimbledon's mens final right now. Djokovic up 2 sets to love. Had to get up 6am local time to catch the start of the match.
  4. Well, mine weren't velvet like Jimmy's, but I did have a pair of pink jeans that I would pair with either a grey or lime green Izod or Polo shirt. I also had green pants that I would wear with my pink polos or oxfords. What can I say...I LOVED pastels!
  5. Whenever I hear the phrase, "I'm saving that for my book", my bullshit-detector goes off.
  6. Going to see Hall and Oates on the 4th of July Monday at the Hollywood Bowl, with fireworks show afterwards. They are playing the Hollywood Bowl all holiday weekend long. http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets/performance-detail.cfm?id=4530
  7. ^^^ Yes to all of the above, Brad! Sadly, my date and I agreed "Terri" was just meh. Could've been better. But we did recognize the bookstore and a couple other locations. They filmed the movie all over the Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre area. Of recent movies I've seen, "Submarine" and "Beginners" were far better than "Terri". Oh well, at least it wasn't as godawful as "Larry Crowne".
  8. In n Out is overrated. Definitely not to die for. I can name 100 burgers in LA better than In n Out. Res, I'm lovin' that picture of the fries...reminds me of when I first got to Europe and discovered people dipped their pommes frites in mayo, not ketchup. It was a REVELATION! I've always hated ketchup...never put it on my fries, burgers, dogs...and I think there oughta be a special place in hell for people who ruin a good steak by slathering it in ketchup. So when I discovered the flavour sensation of frites in mayo, I was in heaven. I took that habit back home with me when I left Europe. And I endured several years of weird looks from friends as whenever we were out and having fries, I would ask for a side of mayonnaise or garlic aïoili. Of course, I managed to convert a few to the European way. Gradually I experimented with Thai peanut sauce, curry mayo and others. Then in the 90's, Euro-style fries hit the mainstream in LA, when a Belgian Pommes Frites stand opened up on the Santa Monica Promenade, offering perfectly fried frites with a choice of 30 different dipping sauces and mayos. The stand is no longer there...I think there's one in the Valley...but no longer do you get weird looks when you dip your fries in something other than ketchup. Death to ketchup. Hey Brad, nice video of The Hat in Pasadena! In SoCal, it's also a time-honoured post-drunk ritual to head to Pink's or Tommy's and get an order of chili-cheese-onions-fries. I also like adding jalapeno peppers. If only The Hat was open late like Pink's and Tommy's. I'm heading to a buddies BBQ party right now!
  9. Glückliche geburtstag dude! Happy Birthday! Keep a ROCKING!

  10. Hey there ZepRex! No I haven't forgotten about you. My main computer is down and it is 100° F. out here in LA, so I'm spending as much time keeping cool and relaxing as I can this 4th of July holiday weekend. But you'll hear from me soon. Prost!

  11. Merci beaucoup for the compliment, Melanie. Hope you have a great 4th of July weekend. Are you beating the heat? The sun is blazing like the dickens here in LA. Pant pant pant...

  12. It is so damn hot. 100 freaking degrees! I'm melting...

      missytootsweet

      Hey there strider,

I'd welcome you to Florida anytime, but you would only gain an advantage of 7 degrees.... We are sitting @ about 93 degrees here! More iced tea please.....;) Missy

  13. I have multiple groups of 3 that I'd like to see. Lou Reed Neil Young Nels Cline Jimmy Page Glenn Branca Kevin Shields Ry Cooder Bonnie Raitt Derek Trucks Robert Smith Dave Navarro Trey Anastasio Jimmy Page Thurston Moore Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson Pat Metheny Vernon Reid John Frusciante Believe me, I've got dozens more in my head.
  14. Just got the new book of photographs by Linda McCartney published by Taschen. Linda McCartney "Life in Photographs" Many excellent candid photographs of Paul and the kids(talk about your IDYLLIC childhoods)...and many pop/rock stars of the day including some great ones of Eric Clapton. There is only one Led Zeppelin/Yardbirds-related photo in the entire book, and that is this one:
  15. I wonder if she grunts like that in bed? That would get annoying really quick...plus you'd go deaf. Andy gave it a try, but yes, Nadal is just too strong right now. So now it's GO Djokovic and GO Maria!!!
  16. More classics... Allman Brothers Band "Live at Fillmore East" Allman Brothers Band "Eat a Peach" Rory Gallagher "Irish Tour" Rory Gallagher "Live in Europe" Robin Trower "Live" More to come, Ancel...but these should get you started.
  17. Hi Ancel! Welcome to the joys of blues-rock! Although it can be a minefield, too, with all sorts of bogus pretenders wasting your time and precious money. I am going to try and give you a well-rounded answer, with past and current blues-rock faves of mine. They only let you post so many images or clips in one post here, so it'll have to be a multi-part answer. I have certain parameters that I set for me to consider a band "blues-rock"...not that I'm a purist or anything. I'm not one of those that is a stickler for AUTHENTICITY....otherwise I wouldn't be a Led Zeppelin fan. I have no problem with fakers, as long as they fake with CONVICTION, or authenticity, as it were. In other words, NO Journey. As you said, you've already discovered Cream, Jimi Hendrix and SRV, so I won't have to list those. Anyway, let's begin with some old classics... John Mayall "Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton" John Mayall "Turning Point" Fleetwood Mac "Live in Boston 1970 Volumes 1, 2 & 3" Fleetwood Mac "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac Live at the BBC" Michael Bloomfield "Live at Bill Grahams Fillmore West 1969"
  18. Oh mannnnnn....the ANTICIPATION is building! Can't wait for the album to come out and the tour to come around Los Angeles. This sounds like it's going to be killer.
  19. Oh, it won't be JUST the other moms looking...expect lots of looks from the dads, too! BTW, although technically not a post here on the thread, I did change my avatar pic...that's me at age 2 or 3 with some cousin or other, who apparently followed me around all the time. I don't remember her at all, but my mom said we were inseparable and we would kiss all the time.
  20. Now, on Donnie Darko, the newer version works, as this was what the director INTENDED to show originally but because of budget and studio interference wasn't...actually I like both versions, but the director's cut makes some of the weirder story elements clearer...and the music cues are what he originally wanted. A HIGHLY UNDERRATED AND OVERLOOKED film...and thoroughly enjoyable. Loved all the "Sweded" clips...someone should do a "sweded" version of "The Song Remains the Same". It'd be hilarious. Michel Gondry has done some of my favourite films of the past decade, with "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" being near the top of the list. And his music video work is practically second-to-none. Too bad "Be Kind and Rewind" didn't do better at the B.O., but hopefully it will have a second-life on dvd and cable; much like Donnie Darko did. Don't know if I want to see his "Green Hornet", though...it looked TERRIBLE. Going to see the new John C. Reilly movie, "Terri" tonight...they shot a scene in the bookshop I work at in Pasadena, Book Alley. Hopefully it made the cut.
  21. The original is far better than the Redux version...and I could write a THESIS explaining why, but the Wimbledon semi's are on and Tsonga just won the third set to get back in the match, so I don't have the time nor the focus to elucidate. Maybe later...I'll pm you. Both Coppola and George Lucas need to be quarantined somewhere to prevent them from going back and RUINING their old movies! It's like a disease with those two.
  22. Thanks FireOpal. I didn't really believe BigDan's malarkey about Murray being anti-England and all, but others might have. It's so typical of the tabloid media...and the American tabloids are just as bad. Fortunately you had a rational response and answer instead of a knee-jerk one that only reinforces the fabrication. GO ANDY! GO MARIA! :cheer:
  23. :hysterical: Wow, what a doozy! Thanks bouillon...for not only for reminding me of my own wacky GF @ concert moments, but for reminding me there actually was a nanosecond when Sisters of Mercy were thought of as GODS. I saw Sisters of Mercy 3 times back in the daze...but that, along with any gf stories is for another thread. Much as I love the trip down memory lane, there WAS a question in my post the other day, namely: IS THE SOURCE FOR THE DRAGONFLY VINYL OF "FOR BADGRHOLDERS ONLY" MIKE MILLARD'S TAPE OR ANOTHER SOURCE?
  24. Thanks for posting those Steve, for those of us who couldn't make it over to England.
