  1. The lyrics and the emotion with which Robert sings "Tangerine" is my favorite.
  2. That's a GREAT idea! I know a lot of people have posted their story on this forum. Some like yours could be fleshed out to be a chapter unto itself!
  3. fsmith9095, My bad...I saw the "oldbuckeye" addy at the bottom of your post and thought you were an OSU fan. The O2 trip went fast for me too, and I love reading other people's tales of their trip - it brings memories of mine flooding back!
  4. fsmith9095 Talk about envy! I read all the O2 stories and I remember yours well! Yours was nothing less than every Zephead's ultimate fantasy - short of Jimy inviting you to join them on stage! Although I'll never forget my experience at the O2, yours is the stuff of legend - and well written I might add. Last minute tickets to the show, VIP passes - even a comped hotel stay? Unbelievable! Friends have suggested a book as well, but I've met people that have put my adventures to shame. Besides, there have been incidents that I'd be uncomfortable sharing - things my family don't even know about. And I wouldn't feel comfortable profiting from other people's misery. We have something else in common I believe. My alma mater recently joined your conference and when both programs rebuild to their former stature, it should be quite a rivalry! Go Bickeyes and Huskers!
  5. fsmith9095, Wow, what kind words from you folks! And I thought you guys were great because you were fellow Zep-Heads! THANK YOU! What I found truly amazing was during the mass genocide in Rwanda in the mid-90's, an estimated 1.2 million people were slaughtered. We thought the mountian gorilla population (which are only found in three countries in Africa) were doomed. Yet not one mountain gorilla was killed during that time! They valued the gorillas more than their fellow human beings. Man....kind????? It is satisfying, but having AK-47's pointed at your face, wrestling machete's away from thugs and being thrown in a Zaire prison take their toll on a person - especially when they are just there on a vacation! Oh, and if you are interested in seeing the gorillas, today Rwanda proposed raising the permit fee to see them to $750.00 US. So go soon while it's still only $500.00!!!!
  6. "THANK YOU"......so very kind of you to say! I was going to the Ahmet clebration in 2010 no matter what! That was the best chance I would ever have to see Zep live and I would not let cost stand in my way! I was fortunate enough to get a standing ticket, and as you said, the experience was "priceless!" I didn't get to see John with them, but "The DNA Remains the Same" and I thought Jason was remarkable that night! A dream come true for me as I was too young and living too remote to have seen them back in the day! However, getting to see them in........hell, anytime from 69-80.....like you did?? You were truly blessed! I can only hope that the little contributions I made will actually help some of those endangered species for future generations to enjoy!
  7. *blushes* I'll trade ALL my wildlife/travel adventures for your opportunities to seeing Zep back in the 70's ANYTIME!!! Anyone can still fly to Africa, Indonesia or Brazil and assist with wildlife conservation.....getting to see the mighty Zep in all their glory back in the day? PRICELESS!!!
  8. Frank - Believe me, the DRC IS a "hell on earth". Millions have been killed there over the last 15 years - but it doesn't make the news. The only rule of law is who has a bigger gun and more bullets - or the sharpest machete! Deborah - I try to do my part for helpless endangered species. Here's a shot of me in Zimbabwe. The rhino is NOT dead! We tranquilized it and I helped de-horn them so the poachers wouldn't shoot them for their horns. He is blind folded to keep him calm and the wet stuff is water to cool him down while we wroked on him.
  9. Sorry if this has already been postd, but I just noticed that in LMFAO's lyrics to "Party Rock" (Every Day I'm Shufflin'): Yo! I'm running through these hoes like drano I got that devilish flow rock and roll no halo We party rock yea! that's the crew that I'm repping On the rise to the top no led in our zeppelin Hey!
  10. fsmith9095, The gorilla was a silverback named Ninja. Sadly, Zaire (now DRC) soldiers killed him two years after that photo was taken.
  11. Me (flashing the peace sign) at the O2.... A few years back on vacation.....
  12. I was fortunate enough to see them 4 times between 1979 and 1982. Damn, they were great in the day! I even caught one of Eddie's guitar picks! Saw DLR solo in Texas back in 85-86. Zero interest in Van Hagar! Best Album: Debut without a doubt! Favorite member: DLR. Ego aside, he was an incredible frontman. And whoever said Eddie was over-rated.....you've got to be kidding me! Some of the greatest guitars in the world tried to copy his sound, style and especially his finger-tapping technique!
  13. If you lose your appreciation for Zep music, where the hell do you go from there? Lady Gaga? Justin Bieber? CRap music?
  14. I work on a tropical island and in the middle of the night my A/C went out - got no sleep after that. Went out to drive to work - flat tire on the front passenger side. Called in to a special meeting with the Project Manager this morning to be informed that recycling out here is no longer economically feasible and everything will hence forth be burned. Stopped by the Post Office on my way home for lunch - the 5 boxes I maled back to myslef in the States were returned because the PO wanted customs paperwork to ship things from a U.S. territory to the US. I thought these things were only supposed to happen in three's?
  15. Grecko1, Could not have said it better myself. "Pictures at Eleven" and "Coverdale/Page" are my two favorite post-Zep albums. I listen to both all the time. As a guitar player too, I LOVE Robbie Blunt's strat tone on PaE. I don't understand all the hate towards Coverdale, obviously Page thinks enough of him to not only collaborate with him for that one album, but also go to his shows. And I thought he was a much better fit than the singers Page used on "Outrider". I much prefer Page's guitar work on CP than to the stuff he did with The Firm. There's even some pretty mean harmonica playing on the album. Not Whitesnake, not Zep - just a great amalgam of two great artists.
  16. Not sure if this has been posted yet. I work on an Air Force base in the middle of nowhere and the only TV we get is Armed Forces Network (AFN). They recently started playing a cool commercial on there (we only get military commercials in between shows...and only 4 TV channels) that's titled "Legends Influenced by AFN". The commercial is a 15 second clip of Robert Plant on the David Letterman show telling Dave how when he was in England growing up they would listen to AFN out of Germany and if you were lucky you'd hear Sonny Boy Williamson or Muddy Waters and it really made an impact on him. In the background of the commercial they play "Black Dog". Pretty cool for the military.....
  17. Well, Robert had the choice to say "No, that's a ridiculous, stiff, commercial song that that poser David Coverdale did. I won't embarrass myself singing that Jimmy." He obviously didn't! But I'm sure Jimmy FORCED him to sing it. And BTW, their setlist changed throughout that tour (and the subsequent one as well). That doesn't mean the song wasn't good to perform, maybe they just wanted to change things up a bit.
  18. "I Find his playing very stiff on Shake My tree, a brutal song for my ears. The intro. riff sounds ridiculous to me, like Page is making fun of commercial metal or something." LMAO!!! Interesting that Robert (who "saved" Jimmy from humiliating himself with the Page/Coverdale project) found "Shake my Tree" so stiff, commercial and ridiculous that he sang it during the Page/Plant Tour 1995!!! And we all know that if Robert feels uncomfortable about a song (one in particular) he WON'T do it! I Love the song, and apparently Robert did too - enough to include it on their song list for the tour! And hearing them play it live was frickin' AWESOME!!!
  19. Dr. Death, THANK YOU! I couldn't have said it beter myself! Loved the Page/Coverdale collaboration (except the cover art). To this day it is my favorite post-LZ album and the one I listen to the most. It is what it is...fun, bluesy, hard rock..........ummmmm.....much like that "other" band Pagey was in!
  20. has not set their status

  21. I was fortunate enough to have front row center seats to a Page/Plant show in Denver in 1995 and also was standing for the Led Zepeplin show in London December 10, 2007. Both shows you could see Jimmy drooling all over himself. I don't think it has anything to do with being intoxicated artificially....I think he gets so into the moment and the playing that he just drools! An oral orgasm if you will. During the O2 show, the bootleg video clearly shows him wiping his chin off with his shirt sleeve in between songs!
