  2. If the officer was going by a photo they'd seen of Dylan from a "long time ago" dare I say that any of us look the same now, much less Dylan who has always been a bit of a chameleon, musically and otherwise.
  3. Quite possibly the Fiery Furnaces with White Rabbits at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro on Monday.

I thought Circuit Shitty had gone out of business.
  5. From The Huffington Post: Bob Dylan Stopped By Cops, Asked For ID In New Jersey Shore Town (Associated Press) Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in a New Jersey shore community when a resident called to report someone wandering around the neighborhood. Dylan was in Long Branch, about a two-hour drive south of New York City, on July 23 as part of a tour with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp that was to play at a baseball stadium in nearby Lakewood. A 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification, Long Branch business administrator Howard Woolley said Friday. "I don't think she was familiar with his entire body of work," Woolley said. The incident began at 5 p.m. when a resident said a man was wandering around a low-income, predominantly minority neighborhood several blocks from the oceanfront looking at houses. The police officer drove up to Dylan, who was wearing a blue jacket, and asked him his name. According to Woolley, the following exchange ensued: "What is your name, sir?" the officer asked. "Bob Dylan," Dylan said. "OK, what are you doing here?" the officer asked. "I'm on tour," the singer replied. A second officer, also in his 20s, responded to assist the first officer. He, too, apparently was unfamiliar with Dylan, Woolley said. The officers asked Dylan for identification. The singer of such classics as "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Blowin' in the Wind" said that he didn't have any ID with him, that he was just walking around looking at houses to pass some time before that night's show. The officers asked Dylan, 68, to accompany them back to the Ocean Place Resort and Spa, where the performers were staying. Once there, tour staff vouched for Dylan. The officers thanked him for his cooperation. "He couldn't have been any nicer to them," Woolley added. How did it feel? A Dylan publicist did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Friday. Filed by Marcus Baram
  6. More info available on their website.
  7. This is old news but I just now found about it. Click on the cover for more info.
  8. I first heard of her when Michael Stipe made a guest appearance on Future 40's (String of Pearls) from this record. He later used the chorus of that song as a prelude to I Believe in concert. I also remember her from the debut episode of Unplugged way back when it was hosted by Jules Shear. She's also one of many guests (including Stipe, John Lydon, Jack Bruce, etc.) on the second Golden Palominos album Visions of Excess. I have no idea what ever became of her.
  9. I've posted about them here before. If you're so inclined, you can give 'em a listen here.
  10. They were here recently with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit opening but I missed it. It doesn't look like he's supporting them out west though.
  11. Nothing really essential here but still a nice find considering it's been out of print for quite some time now.
  12. The Big Surprise Tour in Cary, NC last night with Justin Townes Earle, the Dave Rawlings Machine (featuring Gillian Welch), the Felice Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show. The heat was sweltering and so were the performances. As I'd read, there was no opening act, each band jammed together off and on throughout the evening and the setlists are different every night (thus, the "Big Surprise" name of the tour). Last night we got covers from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Replacements and more. Damn good stuff and highly recommended if this tour is rolling through your town.
  13. Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson Thursday night at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. Their Rattlin' Bones record was one of my very favorites of last year.
  14. ..and apparently a tutorial on how to use the Search function: Aerosmith tour officially cursed. What a disaster! Steven Tyler falls off stage AEROSMITH The Aerosmith Thread
  15. The Big Surprise Tour with the Dave Rawlings Machine (featuring Gillian Welch), the Felice Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show and Justin Townes Earle in Cary, NC this evening.
  16. Not exactly sure what you mean by "phony encore" but I recently heard Stevie Nicks' cover of Rock n' Roll when she was on Soundstage. Atrocious doesn't even begin to describe it. I also never cared for Sheryl Crow's version of D'yer Mak'er.
  17. Same for Montrose, the James Gang and the Ozark Mountain Devils. Maybe not household names but they're hardly what I'd call "obscure".
  18. That oughta be a good one though I have to say I was less than impressed by the Commander the one and only time I've seen him (which was around 10 years ago now). Much more to my liking is former Lost Planet Airmen guitarist Bill Kirchen and his band Too Much Fun. Check 'em out if you haven't done so already:
