  1. From RollingStone.com Booker T. Recruits Neil Young, Drive-By Truckers For First Solo Album in 20 Years From Billboard.com Booker T. rocks with Truckers, Neil Young
  2. I love this quote in reference to The Jeff Beck Group reforming: "Reformation of bands is never my idea of a good idea. Leave well enough alone, especially 35 years after it happened. It usually indicates there isn’t anything else happening in someone else’s career, otherwise you wouldn’t entertain it — let’s face it." Jeff Beck Opens Up About Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Gigs With Clapton, Jeff Beck Group Reunion
  3. It's funny how in one thread you can't knock the Hall of Fame hard enough yet in another you're clamoring to get there for the induction ceremonies.
  4. Page also worked with Puff Daddy so you never know. Then again, I'm not sure the original artist has to actually be contacted for permission, the songwriters just have to be credited so they can receive royalties.
  5. For the vinyl aficionados it looks like the good folks at Music Direct have a good chunk of the Van Morrison catalog available on wax.
  6. I wasn't questioning your mention of New Orleans or Memphis. Re-read my post. I said "New York City". That said, there is no single "birthplace" of rock n' roll. The roots of rock n' roll can be traced to many different places, not just one.
  7. I guess it's a fine line since performers like James Brown and Bob Marley definitely belong in there because they had a profound influence on rock n' roll even though Brown was a R & B performer and Marley did reggae. Run DMC were without a doubt influential on the convergence of rap and rock which brought us Anthrax doing Bring Tha Noize with Public Enemy which in turn wrought Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine, Korn and many others that mixed rap and rock n' roll.

  10. There were several songs off of their debut that got a fair amount of airplay but I'm not sure they ever charted as high as What I Am. Mama Help Me from their second record (Ghost of A Dog) also got some airplay but wasn't also wasn't as successful as What I Am. They regrouped recently for a new album called Stranger Things but in this day and age, I don't think anyone really noticed except for the dieheard fans.
  11. Their Live Aid performance is not only among my very favorites of theirs but from that whole event as well.
  12. $99 seems pretty reasonable for the 8 CD set of the first volume of the Archives even though I already own two of them (Fillmore East, Massey Hall).
  13. Yes, he is but they're scattered dates at best. I imagine if a Faces reunion tour were to materialize these dates wouldn't be enough to hold him back.

    RAISING SAND 2

That would all depend on who you talk to.
  15. Rock n' roll began in New York? I don't think the roots of rock n' roll can be traced to any one place, much less New York. No matter where it's located it wouldn't stop people from bitching. It's in Cleveland because of Alan Freed, the radio announcer who's believed to be the first to coin the phrase "rock n' roll".
  16. What happened to: So you don't like Metallica so therefore they belong in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame? I'm not even a fan but they meet all of the criteria to a t. You must be living under a rock (something that already goes without saying) to not know just how influential they've been.

    RAISING SAND 2

I'm surprised you're that concerned about a person's "fandom" and would devote so much thought to it. Not to mention, I never said I wasn't a fan of the band, I said Led Zeppelin isn't my favorite band. That said, I still spend most of my time in the Other Bands section of the board. I hope Plant and Krauss do whatever the fuck they want to do on the next record. It doesn't matter to me whether it's "upbeat" or not.
  18. If solos don't matter, I'm not sure why you mentioned them. I also love music from the 70s (or else I wouldn't be here) but in my opinion soloing went out with the other self-indulgent tendencies of most groups from that time. That's not to say I don't enjoy a good solo from time to time but in most instances they come off as needless wankering. Here's some examples of some current rock n' roll bands: The Gaslight Anthem The T's Patty Hurst Shifter The Reigning Sound Blitzen Trapper The Static Minds The Yayhoos The Olympic Ass Kickin' Team The Hold Steady The Dexateens The Huguenots Gentlemen Jesse and His Men
  19. I think if a vital member is missing some reunions can be downright embarrassing and border on being a tribute band instead. I've witnessed very few exceptions to that rule, the Allman Brothers being one of them. They've never seemed like a nostalgia act since losing Duane and Berry while certain groups just do the same exact setlist night after night and even stick to the same stage banter.
  20. Nice call on Stewart. When I saw the Police a couple of years ago he pretty much stole the show but they all went above and beyond.
  21. I'm currently in the process of rediscovering their middle period via Zooropa but I will always be drawn to their early work like War. I also love the live version of Bad from the Wide Awake In America EP. I would love to see them live. As I've said, it all just depends on the ticket price.
  22. That, he does. In addition to his vast catalog of work I've really enjoyed his contributions to the last Truckers record as well as Decoration Day.
  23. No offense but I've never used a broker to get a ticket so I don't plan on starting now, even for U2. I also don't see paying that much to see anybody. I've paid $80 to see R.E.M. but that was through their fanclub and I had front row seats. That was worth every penny. I paid the same amount to see the Stones on their last tour and also felt it was worth it even though I was seated in the bleachers. I paid $90 to see the Police in 2007 and would not do that again. I like them and am glad I got to see them but did not enjoy watching three dots on a stage from the nosebleed section for that price. We'll see what the next U2 tour brings. I'm still kicking myself for not seeing them on the War tour way back when. Click on the photo below for the show I'm referring to.
  24. I just picked up a used copy of Zooropa which I hadn't heard in years. I'd forgotten how much I liked it. I may also buy Pop eventually as I always had a soft spot for Please. As much as I like The Joshua Tree I've never really considered it their finest hour but it probably considered such since it's when they broke through to their largest audience. My favorite record of theirs remains to be War, probably because it's the first ever album I ever heard by them. I've yet to see U2 in concert because they charge far too much but after seeing a couple of their more recent concert films (Elevation and U23D [at an IMAX theatre]) I would like to but not if the ticket prices are outrageous.
