  1. This has been one of my favourite record shops since 1973 when it first opened, now in it's fourth location, and a pic of John the owner. I've spent a lot of time there over the years. As an independent prices are higher than major chains but the service is first class.

2003, I'm in Record Collector in Sheffield, with an armful of secondhand cds I want to buy. I get to the counter and put the cds on it. The girl behind the counter looks up, half smiles to herself and goes back to reading NME. And keeps reading it. Ah, I get it: she's clearly far too cool for this malarkey. I count to 100 in my head. She's still reading NME. So, you really don't want to sell me this 50-quidsworth of cds? Fine - you'll never sell me anything again, either. And they never have. Ask to see the manager? Nah, I'd sooner not give them my money. They must've lost 1000s of pounds from me in the 13 years since then, too. All because of yet another 'rude hipster'. Record stores? F*ck em.

Sorry, I'm calling either  a misunderstanding/lack of communication or BS...

Yeah, Montreal is great. Races are usually entertaining there. If Red Bull can keep up their form and Ferrari's engine upgrade will work, it could be the best GP of the season yet!

Remember the two hour rain delay about five years ago, I don't remember the race, but that wait.....

Have a good sleep JTM.  I'll be enjoying the crown jewel of F1.  Monaco is thee drivers course - now mix in rain and it'll be insane.  Congrats to my boy Ricciardo for earning the pole today! ?????

Indeed, I'm pleased for Ricciardo he comes across as a genuinely nice guy when he gives his pre/post interviews.. Ric on pole makes a change from those two at P1 and P2....

I didnt really have a problem with the higher price. it was the guy who worked there. he was rude, not helpful at all and had a pissy attitude. when I asked him a question he just rolled his eyes and didn't answer. I regret giving them my money. I would rather go to a corporate chain store that hires nice people than a store run by rude hipsters.

Did you consider that maybe he thought you were being a dick....'Rolling his eyes'.....What was your question.....

I just saw that at Amoeba and made a mental note to get it on my next shopping spree. So it's a good one, JTM?

If you already like Terry's "River" album you're going to love this collection of material leftover from the "River" album sessions.  Eleven songs, six that have never been previously released, three alternate versions of songs from the original "River" and two alternate versions of songs that only appeared on a limited 2006 reissue.

Think of this as a "companion" piece to the "River" album, one that really does give an honest look to an alternate listen, no song is just a different mix from their original versions. Some of the material is very loose, Terry and the band looking for the right groove, lyrics that are not yet finished so just improvised to fit the spaces where the lyrics will go. The alternate version of the title track has a more Latin groove and is slower paced... This is one laid back album.....

I'm not a reviewer, I'm not really a writer, so all I can say once again if you like Terry Reid you must have this, if you are just a casual fan, still find a way to listen to this album. Fabulous musicianship and Terry Reid's amazing voice, what more can anyone want.

One small gripe for me is that there is no alternate take of the original album opener "Dean", other than that no other complaints whatsoever.

Mercedes drivers took each other out at the start! This race just got very interesting!

Those two are a pair of petulant little pricks that could do with a good slapping.

Big question, after 45 years how could he be sure it was Robert? Bigger question (not wanting to come off as a dick), the man has Parkinson's, a disease which affects both memory and general cognition. Any lawyer would nullify this testimony based on those facts alone.

What's next? They gonna drag out the 105 year old cleaning lady from the Chateau Marmot who will testify she saw Robert pass Randy California in the hall in 1968?

I know a guy, first met him when we were 11 years old, we are both 59 now, he has  Parkinson's  Disease, he had it before I knew him, I saw him last week,  Part from being a little eccentric he's doing fine. So don't  bet on a Lawyer trying to nullify this witness's testimony.

  9. A belated RIP to Howard Marks. I totally forgot ;) to add this. He will be remembered as a great importer of the finest things and will never be forgotten. errrrrr what was I saying? I forgot. Mrs CP? Got anything to munch? I know JTM would have enjoyed his merchandise.

Oh yes, That Mr Nice book is like a timeline of what we were smoking in the late 70's, all that Columbian Grass, Xmas 77 we had those Tie/Thai sticks Howard wrote about and more. When Howard got bust the price of pot almost doubled overnight and the Quality went way downhill when some bright spark came up with that Euro-dope shite they called soap-bar....

Don't listen to JTM. It's a hoax. Don't click on his link either...you'll likely get a virus or spam.

Oops, Sorry if I've inadvertently caused a problem for anyone. My Norton anti-virus  did not flag the link as unsafe. Good to hear that the passing of Tomita  is a hoax, for now anyway..Thanks Shaun.

What?? another double quote.....That forum upgrade, so buggy...

KEITH EMERSON OF EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson. Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz. I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith.

If you truly feel that way then you will also have to acquiesce through logic and fact that Spirit was even more so influenced by Davey Graham's Cry Me A River when they wrote the descending arpeggio structure which does not begin until the middle of the song. The structure between those two songs is almost identical vs. the 4 similar notes shared by only the opening arpeggio in STH. So, if I were Jimmy & Robert, I would find a living relative of Davey to sue the Randy California estate for copying Graham's CMAR and then using a stolen structure to lay the blame on another artist.

One should be careful while strolling through the cactus as one might get pricked. That being said I too enjoy the music of Spirit, not all of it or even most of it but some is pretty good. Taurus is not one of their good songs, it is disjointed and meandering with no real point form beginning to end. Also, according to research, Spirit never played Taurus live at any gig's Zeppelin & Spirit played together, which BTW was only three or four I believe.

I would imagine JP would not want any mention of Davy Graham's CMAR, that would open a whole new can of worms.

Strolling through the cactus? Anyway, there's nothing wrong with acknowledging "Taurus" and it's possible/probable influence on "Stairway". What difference does it make when or where it was played live or what influenced "Taurus"?  Zep were clearly aware of the band and their music.  That said, this lawsuit is a pathetic attempt at a money grab. What's in question is whether this courtroom will be able to employ common sense when considering the similarities and differences of these two songs.

Totally agree this law suit is a cash grab, I really hope that it fails.  Just because the two numbers share similarities does not mean one is a copy of the other.
