  1. Just finished watching "Tideland". Decidedly in the WTF category.
  2. Well, you're asking a very biased woman because he could read the phone book and I'd be enthralled, but he was very good. The acting was excellent throughout by just about everyone but like the poster above me said, the movie was a little bit flat, perhaps too understated and subtle. For people who know about these things and saw this movie, did anyone notice that once the hand-held camera sequences began it seemed as if a different type of film was used? I found that really distracting, and was wondering whether that's a necessity for those kinds of shots? I don't recall Traffic's hand held sequences using a different looking film. I don't get the point of it...thanks
  3. Saw ""Public Enemies" tonight. After reading some lukewarm reviews, it was better than I expected. But that's life - managing expectations...
  4. Well, after seeing it again, I take back a lot of what I said (but not all). It's quite a bit better than than I first thought (I can't believe how much i missed the first time around...weird) but still, it would've been great had they done more with wither Dumbledore's search for the horcruxes or with Harry's search for the ID of the Half-Blood Prince (why he called himself that, etc.). Mayeb they'll somehow include it in parts 7A&B?? It focused a bit too much on the blossoming and shifting romantic relationships and not enough on the other things I mentioned. It seems it would not make much sense to people who've not read the books. I don't really get why they changed parts leading up to the ending, either. Anyway, point is, I liked it much better the second go around.
  5. Saw HP6. Braved it with a bunch of summer camp kids in the theatre, who were actually quite well behaved all things considering. Anyway, is it me or was it just a bit flat? They hit all the important plot points but it wasn't as exciting as the book (leeway added for unfair comparison, as adaptations are tricky). The ending was sad, but in the book it's impact hit me a lot harder. But I've had a hard time feeling much of anything lately, so maybe it's me. So far it's my least favourite movie of the series.
  6. AWESOME, Dzldoc!!! Hopefully the side effects aren't as bad now as they can be in the beginning. All good things, P
  7. So as a distraction I went to see "Transformers" today. What a shitty movie. Note to self: no Michael Bay movies. Baaaad.

    Swine Flu

NYT: WHO declares swine flu outbreak is now a pandemic On a side note, a teen at the school of one of my students has the swine flu. Hmmm...
  9. Hmmm, pretty much impossible to decide, but at the moment the two that jump out are "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "Tea for One".
  10. Hi, just wanted to say that I really appreciate your comments on the Relay thread. It's close to my heart and so it's great when people are supportive.

    Cheers, P :D

  11. ^ is that Scrooge, Fan S? Good bosses seem to be like megafauna cryptids a la Bigfoot -- folklore not supported by empirical evidence I hope you and your daughters had a great time at her graduation
  12. Watching history being made as Roger Federer won the French Open - yessssss!!! :notworthy: He now has his name on all four Grand Slam titles, a record-tying fourteen in total Victory! Fourteen and counting - Allez!!!
  13. Very sorry for your loss, ~tangerine~, I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet.
  14. Yesss! Tonight they announce the top twenty choices, should be really good. I'm surprised at some of the people they've dropped so far, but it looks like a rrreally talented group this year. I love how at the beginning of auditions there's always "the one", you know, the one who's abysmal and then the one who's sublime. Right now, I'm watching the French Open
  15. So You Think You Can Dance I LOVE this show! Mia Michaels is an awesome choreographer. Every year she comes up with ideas that blow me away.
  16. Those Dos Equis commercials with "The most interesting man in the world" really crack me up: "He once had an awkward moment just to see what it would be like" "He lives vicariously through himself"
  17. Hey Fan S ! Well, you got me about those songs, I don't recall them off hand, so I'll have to do some digging - always fun looking for musical treasures! Thanks for the suggestion
  18. Hi Fan S! it's quite all right. After all this time I can see how you can get the names mixed up - 'round' / 'circle' . Well, Roundabout is staging "Waiting for Godot" right now. Except for some of its absurdist language which dates it a bit, it's still a very current play. Not bad for a first published play . "Nothing happens, nobody comes, nobody goes, it's awful!" cheer up Estragon!
  19. Hey Fan S! Thanks, it was really a revelation for many reasons, not the least of which was the music. And yes, he did perform Raincoat. Here's the set list: Dance Me to the End of Love The Future Ain't No Cure Bird on the Wire Everybody Knows In My Secret Life Who By Fire Chelsea Hotel Waiting for the Miracle Anthem -intermission- Tower of Song Suzanne Sisters of Mercy The Partisan Boogie Street - Sharon Robinson Hallelujah I'm Your Man 1,000 kisses recitation Take this Waltz -small bow= So Long Marianne Manhattan -small bow- Famous Blue Raincoat If it Be Your Will - Webb sisters Closing Time -small bow- I Tried to Leave You Whither Thou Goest (with crew) Jaw dropping, yes? A great time - witnessed beautiful music and met some nice people. A to you too, fellow Cohen fan.
  20. Well that explains the sudden speaking in tongues Did you happen to catch the price of the guitar, by the way? Wander in more often will ya! Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to post this at the time, but the Leonard Cohen concert this past Tuesday was INCREDIBLE! Great musicians, surprisingly good sound (for a hockey arena), and best of all Leonard was in top form what with his witty banter and soulful voice for over three hours.
  21. Medhb, there you are! I was wondering where you'd gone to, haven't seen you around in a while. Nice to see you back, and GREAT pic!
  22. An update on the Tori case: apparently the eighteen-year-old accomplice abducted the little girl so her boyfriend could have his way with her before she was killed. I swear to God some people are a waste of space. No soul. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinio...article1147974/
