  2. Inside the Actors Studio - Dave Chappelle, guest host
  3. I would say that it's because of the history that they're distinct. I suppose just like you don't like being branded a certain way because you're American, we don't like to hear that our distinctness isn't recognized either. Then again, your country to me seems like fifty little nations. It's rather amazing you guys can keep it all together. I get why you would have such a notion since it's from your experience, but Canada is very diverse; perhaps you just need to see a bit more of it
  4. Yeah unfortunately it became a lot more rampant during the Bush administration. And it wasn't just in Canada, either. But to answer your question, no, I'm not anti-American. Not wanting to join the US as a nation does not, for me at least, have anything to do with disliking the States, but with wanting to preserve and maintain Canada's unique identity, one undoubtedly influenced by our proximity to your country, but distinct in meaningful ways nonetheless. And please try not to let the booing douchebags at hockey games get to you. They certainly don't represent all of us, just the small minority that slipped by evolution. I hope your border experiences improve. Has it been the same at all crossings or one in particular?
  5. Yeah, but that's like needing a colonoscopy, so nothing to brag about . You still haven't said what you mean by an "Oh Canada" attitude, I really don't know what you mean. Surely you don't think I support the booing of the US anthem at hockey games? I don't know what else you could be referring to...
  6. What "Oh Canada" attitude is that? Yours is no less a flippant and patronizing statement than if the British were to come and reclaim your fine states, savvy?
  7. Thanks, but no thanks. I think we like things just the way they are.
  8. Oh do tell! The price isn't listed, so who knows whether your offer isn't accepted
  9. ^ What's great about your owning it, Cav, is that it clearly means a lot to you. Too often people acquire these kinds of things purely for resale profit. And you're right, Page doesn't seem to sign too many things. He's always seemed to be the less is more type when it comes to publicity (something I wish a few more 'stars' would adopt), but it certainly hasn't hurt his popularity. He's the only living person on that list.
  10. Chocolate Guinness cupcakes (three of my favourite things together mmmmm...) Makes 24 cupcakes Cupcake ingredients 1 (12-ounce) bottle Guinness stout 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract 3 large eggs 3/4 cup sour cream 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa, plus more for garnish 2 cups sugar 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp baking soda Frosting ingredients 1 (8-ounce) pkg cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup heavy cream 1 lb confectioners’ sugar Cocoa powder, for dusting 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the Guinness, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Mix in the sour cream. 3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cocoa, sugar, flour, and baking soda. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet Guinness mixture. 4. Butter 24 muffin tins and divide the batter among the muffin tins. 5. Bake 25 minutes, until risen and set in the middle but still soft and tender. Cool before turning out of the tins. 6. Beat the cream cheese in a bowl until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in the heavy cream. Slowly mix in the confectioners’ sugar. Top each cupcake with a heap of frosting and dust with cocoa.
  11. You're quite right, the Les Paul is not cheap, let alone one that is custom 'nicked up' (side note: it's a little tacky to want a replica like that, it's like going to medieval times or something) to perfection AND signed by Page. But I guess like the others on the list, each is valuable in and of itself, but all the more within the context of their expertise (well, Shakespeare's is on his will, etc., we do not have any manuscripts to know whether he signed those) There you go, well said! You're two up on me, by the way...
  12. When you're on a list with Shakespeare, you know you're rarefied air (as if being Jimmy Page weren't enough): Top five most expensive autographs Not sure how legit this is, but here's a guitar for sale with JP's autograph, if anyone has the itch: http://www.guitarshowcase.com/GS/pageinfo.htm If I get the right six numbers this Saturday, I'll be on it like white on rice
  13. You ARE quick! I was just reading about Levi (strange man, tragic life) when this quote popped up so... remind me never to play Jeopardy against you
  14. Don't you tire of being right? :)

My compliments to you for your titanium ovaries

  15. Billy Bob channels his inner Joaquin Phoenix there there, precious, wipe your chin...
  16. I used to go out with a guy like that. Notice the used to part "Unforgiven" is next, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. I wonder what people are most looking forward to seeing. I really want to see the Wolverine movie (the ass who leaked it on the net is going to be blacklisted when caught), and also "Iron Man II" (LOVE Downey Jr.), "Public Enemies", and "Imanigarium..."
  17. Just started THE GREAT CODE by Northrop Frye
  18. lol no I certainly would not want you to lose any money, so yep just snow - for now. But who the hell knows what it'll be like even this afternoon. It was pouring buckets a couple of days ago, I mean, rrreally coming down, for what it's worth. Good luck
  19. Yesterday - 14 degrees Celsius Today - snow
  20. Leonard Cohen, May 19 woooooooohoooooooooooo!!!!!!!
  21. Sorry not to beat a dead horse, and not that JP was wearing THE cross, but that design is highly reminiscent of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which had several grades, and yes, worn by SS members as well. I have to leave for work now, but can post some more info later. Again, it's not whether JP meant it that way, but if people had a fit it's because of what they associated with it. What's this about the belt buckle people keep referring to? Can't seem to find it...thanks
  22. Yeah "suggestions" in interpretations can be like musical chairs, especially here since JP's medallion doesn't conclusively look much like anything ("It's a man's face on Mars ZOMG there must be aliens sending us a message!!!). There's something to be said for a straight shooter sometimes And as for your link, I was about to edit my previous post to add that yours is about language, whereas I was thinking of the alphabet, so nevermind
