  1. Very sorry to hear of your loss, Broken Levee. My prayers to you and your family
  2. Yeah I checked it out and you're like #17 out of top 100 fan blogs. "Sweet sassy molassy" ROLF! You should put a link in your sig here, you'll get into the top ten in no time. Would've checked it out before had I known. And thank God it's the Yankees you're blogging about because if it were, say, the Red Sox I'd have to send you hate mail (they're like the Sens of baseball to me - no offense to Bostonians - lovely city, but douche team)
  3. Very sorry for your loss, Ally. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. May you find some comfort in this difficult time.
  4. ^ You too, Juliet & erings, and to all CanZepHeads, Happy Thanksgiving
  5. +1 never quite get used to winter approaching, even after all these years
  6. I know it's irrational to think Canadians are being targeted in Mexico, but seriously -- again? Mexican website reports 2 Canadian men killed
  7. CBC: Cohen's Tel Aviv Concert A Plea for Peace 50,000+ singing "Hallelujah" with him. Wish I could have been there...a special moment among so many tonight.
  8. ^Hi , Yes, thank God, he's ok. It seems to have been a bout of food poisoning. Not fun. Sending blessings and good vibes LC's way are fans from around the world. He must be all right now considering he's in the midst of a set in Barcelona. And to think he wasn't sure whether he'd have an audience if he toured again. I'm soooooo glad I got to see him in concert in Hamilton. It was an unforgettable night. All the best to you, Juliet
  9. Happy 75th Birthday to my favourite Canadian, my favourite poet, my favourite Favourite, really. A toast to Leonard Cohen
  10. Very sorry about that, Ally . Also, I just found out that Jim Carroll passed away from a heart attack on Friday: NYT: Jim Carroll Dies at 60 RIP
  11. Well, on second thought, calling it 'the mother of all storms' is a great overstatement given what our New Orleans friends have had to go through. But I guess it's in relation to what one is used to. Just northwest of this area there was a tornado - something that we almost never get. Beautiful day so far: high near 23C and NO RAIN for once.
  12. Zeppy^, it started out as movies people have seen in the theatre, but like most threads, it has morphed to include just movies people have seen in general -- at friends' places, rented, etc. Well, I saw Tetro yesterday by Francis Ford Coppola. (Side note: IMGL was one of the previews. It was really cool to see snippets again. No release date was given, but I hope it makes it to the big screen here). Anyway, "Tetro" was a really beautiful movie. It's not a visual or storytelling style that will appeal to everybody - some reviews found it boring (it's not designed to be a high concept blockbuster) while other high brow viewers thought Coppola was just ripping off previous masters. That's an unfair assessment imo, because influences from good movies are inevitable and such an opinion over-simplifies Coppola's efforts here. I guess I don't know enough about 'true masters' of cinema but I think it's worth seeing it on the big screen. Engaging story in a gorgeous look.
  13. Hey I know that sky line! You should have seen it two days prior - the mother of all storms!
  14. That was one awesome storm yesterday! Afterward two rainbows appeared simultaneously. I hope everyone's all right Our east coast neighbours are in for a trying time with hurricane Bill headed their way. Stay safe!
  15. If by brown you mean blue, then yes
  16. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, and I still thought this was a really good film. Very gripping and disturbing. It's amazing how people justify grotesque behaviour. It just goes to show, you can pretty much convince anyone of anything. It brings to the surface those attitudes thinly veiled by propriety. But put some pressure on that all hell breaks loose. Let me know what you think if you go see it, nine WOW I can't believe you hadn't seen it yet! HOOOOWAAAAH! grrrrr.... It's a great vehicle for him. Let me know what you think. And you can have our mutual friend for the weekend but I 'might have to steal him from you on Monday (watching "Sea of Love" mmmmmm!) Like I said to nine, "District 9" is well worth the time. Can't wait for IMGL to come out on DVD!!!
  17. ^ Glad you got to see it, and liked it, Fan S! I saw two good movies the last couple of days - "The Hurt Locker" and "District 9". Addiction and certain facets of human nature presented in very sobering ways.
  18. I love "The Story of an Hour"! Enjoy your class; it sounds like you'll be covering a wide range of authors. Have fun!
  19. Yeah that's rough, Ally, sorry to hear that. Hang in there, and I hope she'll pull through ok.
  20. Hey Dzloc, I'm glad to hear you're feeling ok. Is that injection for boosting the immune system an option for you? (my friend had to get it for the same reason as yours. I forget the name of it... isn't cheap and she had to get her insurance to approve it, but her count went from .5 to 13!) I hear that the drop in platelets is quite a normal part of the chemo rounds so hopefully it hasn't gotten you down. Keep up the good spirits!
