Electrophile
http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/the-orb-featuring-david-gilmour-upcoming-release.html How flippin' exciting! I knew they were working together, but I did not know that it was going to end up being the whole of an album OR that rather than just being a guest thing (like on Paul McCartney's album Run Devil Run), he'd get his name on the album as well. There's a YouTube video as well that shows David working on parts of the record and he's using the NOS Black Strat and a double-neck lap steel, it would appear. It sounds phenomenal and you better believe I'll be buying this on CD AND vinyl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rnkDPcnk44
greenman
I'v not really listen to much of The Orbs work in the last decade but this sounds like it has the potential to produce some great music.

Electrophile
You're welcome! I'm sure a lot of Floydians will be wanting to pick this up -- it's an interesting combination but from what I heard in that video, it works.

Electrophile
He's not using the original Black Strat. I can spot the difference between the two a mile away. The one he used on the record, as can be seen in the EPK video, is damn near spotless, whereas the Black Strat is beat to hell. Too, he uses the Hendrix strap for the original Black Strat -- he's not using it here.
Electrophile
I thought I'd give this thread a bumpity-bump since the album is out now and I've had a chance to listen to it. It really is amazing. Really, really amazing. It's a pairing you wouldn't initially think works, but after you listen to the whole thing, it actually does. There's this synth section during one song or "movement" that sounds like something Rick did live on the Animals tour during the song Pigs....really trippy. I know it won't happen, but I'd love it if David and The Orb did some live shows with this material because I think it would hold up well. Definitely well-worth the money I spent for it and I can't wait for the vinyl version to hurry up and get here.
Ady
I've listened to it twice, it's very, very nice! I think it's one of those albums where you notice something different with each listen.
