Spanish Led Zeppelin Blue Vinyl

Recommended Posts

Among the goodies I found at the record swap meet this past weekend was this near mint copy of the first Led Zeppelin in blue vinyl, distributed thru the Hispa Vox label in Madrid, Spain. Made in 1976 according to the back cover liner notes.

The catalogue # is HATS 421-40.

I got it for $10.

I love the Atlantic label colour scheme contrasted with the blue vinyl...a lighter shade than the blue usually used.

Obviously since it is a 1976 pressing, it's not that big a deal, but I've never seen many coloured vinyl of the first Led Zeppelin, so I was wondering if anyone knew the standard pressing run for an item like this? How many of these are out there and was it limited to blue, or were other colours pressed?

Also pressed on red, yellow, grey, blue, green as well as normal black vinyl. As far as numbers pressed, it's anyone's guess really. They come up on ebay quite often, average price is about $30. So that's a good find for $10.

This is also not from 1976. It is from the last five years and is an unauthorized pirate edition, as are the colored vinyl issues from Israel, Mexico, and Brazil, and the picture discs.

After more looking around it appears that they were pressed in 2007. I own the picture disc and sound quality is substandard. Most picture discs I have heard have been outstanding, this one was a disappointment.

How's it sound? I've always wanted the purple marble one.

I just bought a similar record. Same back cover and all but darker blue vinyl. The sound quality is fine by the way. I didn't know it was a "fake" but it's still nice to have, since coloured vinyl is always awesome.
