Wolfgang's vault

Does anyone know the latest with the concerts on Wolfgang's vault?

Weren't Zeppelin along with Santana, Grateful Dead and others legally protesting this web site playing these concerts?

I would like to see these concerts released officially by Zeppelin or in conjunction with Wolfgang's fault.

Any word?

I apologize in advance if this subject has already been worn out

Dunno...after the initial fanfare, WGV hasn't updated with anything good in ages. Most of the stuff I would be interested in (Who, Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc) I've had on boots for years, although I did get two rare and newly complete Who shows off of there! (Philly '73 and DC '73), both of which kick ass!

These are soundboard right. Do you think Zeppelin would even authorize a release of a soundboard?

Yeah they are SBD...everything on WGV is from Bill Graham's acrhives so that's why he has SBDs of all of those bands I mentioned and more...

I'm not sure if LZ would want to authorize these, but I don't know why they'd be so averse to them being up...they sound good. In interviews in the past Peter Grant and Jimmy said they hated boots because they sound like shit and aren't representative of how the band sounded, but these are good recordings...I dunno *shrugs*

Someone posted on here before that Graham had reserved rights to record any band that played in his venues, that I would believe, but Peter Grant not trumping that...I'm surprised about.

If this is the reasoning the postings were never challenged, I dont know, it seems if an individual tried creating such a site it would be shut down.

^Yeah, no kidding...

I guess I never understood what Grant and Jimmy's huge beef with boots was...I'm trying to say this not as someone who has collected and enjoyed boots for years (which I am and have!) but as objective as possible. All it does is get the hardcore fans EVEN MORE into the band than they already are...what's the harm? The making-money-off-of-boots I agree is heinous, but the trading and sharing I would think it a great way to get the music out to more people...

I agree, as it is because of the bootlegs Ive heard that I'm so into Zeppelin.

But I think back then the only easy way to get a bootleg was to buy it from local record stores or wherever and someone could definitely make some money doing that. Grant was over the top against anyone making an extra nickel off Zeppelin (remember the song remains the same scene backstage where he rips on the guy cause someone was selling unofficial posters).

But if they think that they are losing money, they are wrong. Almost no one buying a bootleg wouldn't already have every Zeppelin album, so unless there is a bootleg of a show they are trying to officially release, it cant hurt them.

But in this day and age where we can all share for free over the internet, no harm.

Wolfgangs Vault: I still can't understand how they get away with streaming all these shows. Is it me, or is the sound quality deliberately poor (eg low bitrate mp3) to try and stop people copying them?

============================================================

I completely agree that amateur live recordings should be free. As an active taper, I enjoy sharing shows on the internet, and am a contributor to archive.org, among other sites.

However with Zeppelin, there still appear to be some specialist bootleg labels (all in Japan?) who persist in releasing new titles (and presumably a few hardcore individuals that keep them in business).

Does it not stand to reason that there may be a few tapers sitting on material purely because they do not wish to be bootlegged?

Humbug

I haven't bought bootlegs since college..it's all been tape, then cd, and now internet...

And as for Wolfgangs, the audio is definitely lossy...but those 2 Who shows I mentioned were so rare that they're still great (the sound is good and the shows kick ass)

Like the Wolfgang selection but the audio quality is a bummer. It's definitely degraded in some way...

As for Led Zeppelin, the two shows that are on the vault are commonly available in the bootleg circuit. If Bill Graham did in fact record all the shows, or at least more than two, where are they?

There are plenty of shows Led Zeppelin did at the Fillmore West, Fillmore East and Winterland that aren't in trading circles as soundboards. Many are available as audience sourced tapes ranging from poor to very good, but it would be nice to have the soundboards if they're stashed away in the vaults.

I doubt they're there. Whoever owns Wolfgang's Vault now would put them out there, if not on his site, through a bootleg company.

My avatar is from Wolfgang's Vault site.

Your avatar? I see nothing...

And the same holds true for the Hendrix, Who, Cream, boots on WGV...I've had them on boot (in better quality) for years. Except for those two '73 Who shows which had NEVER been available in their entireties until WGV, nothing is new...
