Rembetis
Without being a killjoy, these images look like they are from the Auckland, New Zealand show on February 25th, 1972. Jimmy was sporting his beard in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne. The first show that Jimmy played sans beard was in Auckland, New Zealand. Although these images are a little distant and slightly blurred they seem to match with the other images that are posted from the Feb., 25th show especially when you look at the tarpaulin over the stage. There are two images that I know that relate to the Perth show. 1) One of them is printed on page 74 of the book, "Led Zeppelin:The Concert File" being from the sound check. 2) The other photo that was published shortly after the concert in "Go-Set" a weekly Australian music paper. This shows a couple of young ladies dancing on stage with the band during the encores. From memory in an interview conducted later in the tour Robert mentions that the crowd were so enthused that they jumped on stage and danced during the encore. When asked about the Perth show Robert said, "It was one of our best yet!" My question is where the hell is the tape so we can finally prove that statement. The photos may be from NZ but that radio interview is likely the real thing. That sounds like an Aussie drawl to me - NZ accent is more clipped & their vowels are pronounced quite differently. The only picture I have seen is the one in Dave Lewis' book the Concert Files of the soundcheck. The stage at Subiaco was very distinctive, here is a picture of Elton John doing soundcheck at Subiaco in 1971

WLL4LZ
^ Good one Fortuna. I've trawling the National Archives & newpapers online looking for photos/articles without much joy - finding only brief mentions of them as a 'pop' group, the 'riots' & drug raid later that night when Jimmy said how rude the police were. And just a quick Hi to the other Aussies on this thread. I use my mobile for virtualy all my online browsing so I don't see where others are from (nor see I have PMs unless I go searching) - should have realised there'd be a few on this thread & you'd be familiar with an NZ accent! Let's try this again, lol. Found this in one of my scrapbooks... Sam, this is the photo that I mentioned. You can clearly see fans on the stage, dancing whilst the band is playing. I have the original printed photograph of this image. In the original images the stage is quite high which would have made it improbable for anyone to climb up onto the stage. In the Elton John sound check photo you can see that the stage was very low and it looks like it is constructed from marine ply making it very easy to jump up on stage. You can also see that the fans at the front are almost head high with the band. The one thing that you can't see clearly in the image that you have posted is that the roadie is wearing a band/tour shirt that I have never seen. I will dig out my photo and scan it and zoom into it. It looks like it may be from Sweden because of the flag design.

Hi PP One of my sources cited The West Australian as their source. The Western Australian State Library online info for their holdings of this newspaper indicate it has been digitised (& can be searched online) up to 1954 & after 2004 - so 1972 is still only available on microfilm.
