    No. Not at all.

It is a Quarantine facility so we don't keep putting travellers in hotel quarantine. NSW is getting around 1200 cases a day now. QLD has the occasional one but contact tracing and quarantining is keeping Delta out so far. (we share quite a large border for those not familiar).

John, any comparison to North Korea is laughable (and a bit weird). I was going up to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow to visit my folks for Fathers Day. 1.5hrs drive. No restrictions apply except wearing a mask if I put petrol in the car. Dad has taken a turn and is in hospital (not covid related) so we are not going now, but besides wearing a mask when in the shops here, it's pretty much normal. Interstate travellers have to quarantine. The restrictions in place will narrow once vaccination rates hit 70% and 80%. Our leaders are basing policies on the best medical and scientific advice which is NON partisan. It is evidence based. Not political, not religious, not populist. Science based advice. The policy implementation is not perfect by a long shot. But big Government bureaucracy never is.

Like others have mentioned, it is getting a bit nasty in this thread and really shouldn't. It's an important topic, but like everything else it has degenerated into a political fight which is mental.

  2. I'm with you there John, but that's not a "don't trust vaccines" issue as much as "pharmaceutical industry lacking ANY oversight and accountability" issue. Good luck though, money talks in Washington. Money by far has the loudest voice.

Science I trust. You know, because - science! Companies that spin/selectively present/suppress science for profit motives with absolutely no accountability, not so much.

it's well established the masks are little more than political theater.

I disagree Steve. There is a reason doctors and dentists wear masks. 100 years ago it's basically all they had, and it was the same. Masks and social distancing. While it has been turned into political theatre (politicised) it is also a basic practical measure.

BTW, when do you get your booster shot?

I get my second Astra jab this week. AFAIK there is no booster needed for Astra after the first two shots, and I wouldn't be rushing to get one if it is announced. Fuck regular shots. I need a lot more convincing it is not pharmaceutical companies once again fucking us all over for profit.

71% of the UK is now vaccinated, they are opening up. Will be interesting to see how they go. So far so good I believe from the news. I'm hoping Australia tracks the same and by Christmas it's done.

  4. I'll see your story about Police response to the protests in AU and counter with the current horrible crisis in Alabama.

Low vaccination rates and a large swathe of the population not willing to wear a mask. That is where that gets you.

So far from being "tyrannical" the measures are a way to stop a state (NSW), population 8 million becoming something like Alabama, population just short of 5 million. It's not tyranny just like wearing a seat belt is not tyranny. The advice (and FACTS) are masks and lockdown/social distancing are effective measures at limiting the virus spreading. Anyone who argues masks and social distancing do nothing is not being genuine at best. You can argue you don't agree that is the best thing to do, but you cannot argue it is useless. Coupled with contact tracing, it is a reasonable approach to take. State Premiers don't want to see their hospitals over run. Period. If no one wears a mask, the virus spreads like wildfire and too many people all at once need to be hospitalised. Hospitals once overwhelmed will mean people who could otherwise get treatment and survive will DIE as there is simply no capacity to manage everyone. Just like where Alabama seems headed (I hope it turns around for them).

It feels like the clock is ticking in QLD, NSW is getting smashed by the virus, so far it has not crossed the border, but it's coming....  3 more days till my second shot...

By the end of the year we will be coming out of all this as vaccinations are set to hit the target 70% for stage 2 and 80% for stage 3 of the plan to get beyond Covid. I hope Christmas this year will be open.

  5. ok, so was incredibly relaxed Friday night, absorbing the great music from Nights with Alice Cooper, and he plays a song I have never heard before - Lucifer Sam. Fuck me, trippiest song I've ever heard by far. Yeah, it was my state of mind, but man, that song is nuts. Magic. Absolutely blew me away. I'll need to find The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and purchase it. I'm thinking that entire album will be enjoyable.

It is played with a Leslie speaker which spins while making sound, normally used with organs.

For years I believed it was a keyboard solo. I looked a bit nuffy playing air-keys when listening along. I wonder how much JPJ appreciates how awesome that guitar sound is that Jimmy was able to create.

I highly doubt there will be anything new. When Page compiled the DVD all those years ago, he categorically stated there was nothing left to see. If .there was he would have certainly included it in that.

There have been rumours from time to time that a Central Park 69 film was uncovered and Bath was being restored but nothing came of either. I understand these were not necessarily under Page's direction, but I reckon this documentary will be mainly waffle, a few old pics and film we have seen countless times before. It  may be of a slight interest to new Zeppelin converts but nowt to many who have followed the band from the 70's

I hope you are wrong Chilli!!! I will remain the optimist.

Following advice from "experts" unthinkingly is no different from following the dictates of the Church, i.e. it's more akin to faith than science.  Whatever happened to getting a second opinion?

Nothing like "faith". My doctor is an "expert" - my believing his medical advice is nothing to do with faith. It is reasonable and logical that accepting medical advice from a doctor is in my own best interest. I guess the key in your statement is "unthinkingly". And yeah, I agree, you still need to consider, process, and question things. "faith" is often the result of laziness.

The second opinion thing - absolutely!!! If my mechanic wants 3 grand to fix that noise I occasionally hear in my car, I might go to another qualified mechanic for a second opinion. The problem here is I don't see any credible reports of a real split in the virologists and medical/scientific community world wide that would lead me to think that the advice being given is some kind of conspiracy or deception. I just don't see it. Some do, I don't.

Having said that, like Steve points out, the "extra booster jab" seems suss as fuck given big Pharma's track record of pushing (And I mean with aggressive marketing and kickbacks) drugs onto populations driven practically fully openly for PROFIT only. Drugs that often solve problems that are an invention of those companies, or worse, opioid painkillers KNOWN to be problematic but pushed hard regardless. They simply cannot be trusted for their own cunty, morally void behaviour.

I'm glad I get my second Astra jab next week, QLD has so far stopped the horrible outbreak in NSW at the border, but that won't last...

  9. So does anyone think completely new insights will be part of this? Or just another "fresh take" on what is already out there.

Personally, I'm looking forward to this a great deal and think it'll be great, and hoping against hope that an as of yet unannounced companion LP release (Bath or Southhampton?) will accompany it.

    well, one can dream....

Anyone who really "followed science" here would understand that the virus disproportionately affects certain demographics, who should be the proper focus of public policy, NOT mass vaccination with an untested vaccine or economic shutdowns

Well that's the rub right there John. So here at least, the overwhelming majority DO follow the science in that our elect leaders take their advice from top experts in their respective fields. So yeah, 100% the virus disproportionately affects certain demographics. And I 100% agree with you that it is a reasonable assumption/position to take that: the focus should be on safeguarding those demographics "while getting on with it". But neither me or you are the medical experts, or modelling/statistical experts, or the top scientists trusted and chosen to advise governments, or the vaccine research experts - or most importantly, the ELECTED leaders who then take all the advice given, and decide upon public policy. So me, you or anyone else can think we have a "better idea" or plan on what to do, but we ain't the ones working on these problems non-stop with a specific and hard earned set of skills and knowledge that puts us in the frame.

So I hate wearing the damn masks and lockdowns like most people, but at the end of the day, the policies in place are from a majority elected Government with agreement from all state leaders (as to NOT turn this into a political-partisan shit-show).

So what you call lunacy (when you reference policies adopted by fairly elected Govt's in AU and NZ) is the result of our elected state and federal leaders (mix of conservative/progressive, the AU Prime Minister and governing party right now is conservative) taking the approach that they would transparently listen to their top medical/scientific advisers that THEY chose, and meet, and formulate policy that all State Premiers accept and support. The advice received is often given direct to the public at press conferences along with reasoning. I'd say that's reasonable. They have also shown flexibility when the data set changes. Like you'd EXPECT from scientists - no ideological position, no dogma, work with data and adapt when the data changes.

I fully appreciate you most likely will vigorously disagree with this John and welcome alternative views, it is just my view from here. Others views are always interesting.

The fact that a pandemic right down to basic mitigation/safety directives is so partisan now is astonishing to me. Thank fuck it is not like that here.

This is NOT a political post. It should not be interpreted as such.

    Cheers.
