  1. After finally watching them, here's my instant reaction to this year's Grammys...
  2. You have me at a disadvantage, sir. I have no idea who you are but you seem to be well aware of my predilection for musicals. Be that as it may, I do not care for Ethel Merman at all. Her singing makes me cringe.
  3. From one Strider/Stryder to another, sounds like you goofed and got the wrong Rolling Stone. There is a David Bowie Tribute issue of Rolling Stone out, that is distinct from the standard RS issue. It is ALL Bowie. That's the one you should have bought. This is the regular RS issue: This is the Bowie tribute issue you should have bought:
  4. Isn't that the Grammys target demographic? I fell asleep watching the Grammys...I made it to the first commercial break before losing consciousness. Taylor Swift is definitely easy on the eyes. It's a shame her songs are so banal, but at least she doesn't dress like a crack-whore like so many of the other pop tarts out there. Every time I see Rihanna I want to throw up. Why, oh why, do the Grammys stick with the insufferably bland and smug LL Cool J as host? It's complete bollocks. He's part of the reason the Grammys are such a snooze. Year after year, it's becoming clear that most of today's pop culture is filtered through the worst of ghetto tastes and sensibilities.
  5. After catching up with today's "Around the Horn" and "PTI", I whizzed through the NBA All-Star game, including Sting's halftime show. Now it's on to the Grammy Awards.
  6. Part of my Valentine's Day entailed going to see "Harold & Maude" (if you haven't seen it I feel sorry for what you've missed), and now I have this Cat Stevens song, which is used to tremendous effect in the movie, stuck in my head...
  7. Actually it tastes more like snake to me.
  8. ^^^Hope Sandoval is a treasure. But I don't think so much of Jefferson Airplane when I hear Mazzy Star as I do Velvet Underground and Gram Parsons.
  9. Real or temporary tattoo? Talk about suffering for your art. I've got the DVR set up...it's a logjam. Still have the NBA all-star game and Der Stingle's halftime performance to watch.
  10. Why am I not surprised? With Mick Jagger and Stones-brown noser Martin Scorsese at the helm, you knew Led Zeppelin would get short shrift. I didn't watch but everyone I know has said it was a joke, with errors abound and fake music.
  11. St. Valentine's Day Massacre Disc 2: 2.14.75 Nassau, NY
  12. St. Valentine's Day Massacre Disc 1:2.14.75 Nassau, NY
  13. And now it has died? May it rest in peace.
  14. I thought the show isn't until tomorrow? The Tonys are usually more fun to watch than the Grammys.
  15. Everyone needs to run, dont walk, RUN and get the new King Curtis "Complete ATCO Singles" box set! ESSENTIAL!!! Memphis Soul Stew Whole Lotta Love Whiter Shade of Pale
  16. I couldn't tell you any of this year's nominations, as the Grammys just aren't on my radar anymore. I would guess Adele and Taylor Swift might be among them, although Adele's "25" album might have been released too late in the year to qualify. David Bowie's album was definitely released too late to qualify but maybe 2014's "The Next Day" got a nod or two? The Grammys have been the award show to hate ever since I was a child and Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon won everything in sight while Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Alice Cooper, The Stooges, The Who, Pink Floyd, and everything loud, brash, and raw in rock and roll got ignored. I finally gave up paying attention to the whole shebang, not even caring who got nominated, in 1988 when has-beens Jethro Tull won Best Metal album over Metallica. Oy vey! Nowadays if I watch at all, it is to watch a performance or see a tribute...usually cringing thru gritted teeth. I would love for this year's David Bowie and Lemmy tributes to rock, but I realize the odds are they will suck. Will Miley Cyrus and John Mayer team up for "Iron Horse"?
  17. "Flavoured stout"? Not sure I like the sound of that...flavoured with what, ebk?
  18. I'll see your stout breakfast and raise ya' a good ol' American breakfast: Country ham and cheddar cheese omelette with salsa, grilled potatoes, sourdough toast, coffee and oj.
  19. My gawd, man...you filleted poor kipper?!? So that's why I haven't seen him around here anymore. Easy now, Kiwi...it's not as if I killed the alligator with my bare hands. Plus, it's like Walter says, alligator(and other exotic meats) are readily available if you know where to look. I have had alligator chili, alligator tacos, and grilled alligator tail. In fact, in the past year I have also had ostrich, elk, venison, buffalo, turtle, wild boar...but no pig's brains. But I did try cow's heart once.
