  1. Nothing against Lita...I just preferred Joan's vocals to Lita and Cheri and I tried to limit my picks to one vocalist per band. That's why I chose Corin Tucker over Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney.
  2. Keeping strictly to the "rock" genre (no pop, country, blues, etc.), so no Patsy Cline, Nina Simone, or Roberta Flack for instance. In no particular order... Grace Slick Janis Joplin Patti Smith PJ Harvey Kate Bush Elisabeth Fraser Chrissie Hynde Joan Armatrading Joan Jett Siouxsie Sioux Ann Wilson Linda Rondstandt Emmylou Harris Wanda Jackson Debbie Harry Kate Pierson Exene Cervenka Penelope Houston Christine McVie Stevie Nicks Bonnie Raitt Joan Armatrading Annie Lennox Margo Timmons Lucinda Williams Laetitia & Mary from Stereolab Donita Sparks Kristen Hersh Corin Tucker Bjork Trish Keenan Allison Goldfrapp Diamanda Galas
  3. Pushing the limits doesn't necessarily have to mean getting "filthier and nastier". That's an out-moded concept. David Bowie pushed the limits and broke barriers without the cheap vulgarity and idiocy of the likes of MM and ICP and Slipknot. In addition, there have been plenty rock concerts I have been to recently that weren't populated by old, white, suburban dudes.
  4. Jah! Can I get mine a la mode, bitte?
  5. Warning: My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 = Awful.
  6. Get her book "I Blame Dennis Hopper". It's full of great anecdotes...like the time when she and Scorsese were dating and Marty arranged to have Marlon Brando meet them for lunch. The title of her book refers to how her parents uprooted their middle-class existence after seeing the movie "Easy Rider",
  7. In 2013 I thought Devandra Banhart's "Won't You Come Home" was the year's "best song Pink Floyd never wrote". In 2014 I said it was The War On Drugs' "Suffering". So far in 2016, this is the best song Pink Floyd never wrote:
  8. I wouldn't know a meme from a mime. I tend to stay away from both.
  9. Now he shows up! Haha...better late than never, Rick.
  10. I literally cannot decide which style I prefer...the harpsichord? Or the piano?
  11. Two out of three ain't bad SAJ. That fetching woman on the left is Illeana Douglas, not Cassandra Peterson.
  12. March 27, 1975 L.A. Forum Hello Black Dragon pants! Goodbye "Rain Song" and "Dazed and Confused"! This would be the last time these songs were performed on American soil. This would also be the last show I saw a reasonably healthy Jimmy Page...until the 90s.
  13. Y'all should have a friendly wager between you two, Walter and Virginia!
  14. ^^^No worries, no apologies needed Icondo. I am looking forward to their Greek show. Last two concerts I attended... Friday 3.25.75 David Gilmour @ Hollywood Bowl Saturday 3.26.16 Dave Chapelle @ Hollywood Palladium Details on the David Gilmour thread.
  15. You think that is harsh? Last night I went to Dave Chapelle's show at the Hollywood Palladium and they weren't allowing any cellphones. If you had a cellphone then you had to put your phone in a locked and sealed pouch before you could enter the venue. After the concert was over they would unlock the pouch. Hurting in what way? The three LA shows (2 Hollywood Bowl, 1 Forum) sold out in a flash so you cannot mean hurting financially. As for the David Gilmour concert I saw Friday night, it was a pleasant enough evening. If you have seen Pink Floyd then you already know what to expect. Good sound and light show, lots of film and animation visuals, not much personal interaction or movement by the musicians. The way they incorporated the Hollywood Bowl's stage design into the visuals was creative. Two sets with an intermission and a three song encore added up to a three hour show. 7 songs from his new album, one from "On an Island", and a bunch of the usual Pink Floyd nuggets. I was hoping to hear "Fearless" but he didn't play it...but it was nice to hear "Fat Old Sun". Alas, the people who had seen Gilmour the night before were buzzing about David Crosby's appearance on a few songs so there was hope we might get Crosby again or maybe another special guest, but it was not to be. In the long run, I am glad I went, especially since old rock musicians are dropping like flies so you better see them while you still can. But I wouldn't put it with the Pink Floyd shows I saw in the 1970s. And compared with the energetic and passionate concerts by Johnny Marr and Bruce Springsteen I have seen this year, there ultimately is something staid about a David Gilmour show. It is all a little too placid. Which was my problem with Pink Floyd towards the end, too. David still plays great, though. Better than the last Jeff Beck show I saw, that is for sure.
  16. Hay is for horses. Just kidding...welcome aboard HotH!
  17. This Bracket Stinks has risen to #371. It would be higher if Kansas had beaten Villanova.
  18. Thanks Chuck! Whatever your denomination...whether Easter has religious significance to you or if it means bunnies and Easter eggs...I wish one and all a Happy Easter! And remember...the last "Dazed and Confused" was played in America by Led Zeppelin on this date in 1975 at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood. The last "Rain Song" too.
  19. Whew! Thank you Lord! Please folks, in the future don't post more than two or three YouTube clips at a time.
  20. Every post helps, ebk. Bless your soul. I T T A K E S A V I L L A G E . C O M E O N P A G E 1 1 7 !
  21. I enjoyed "Eddie the Eagle" very much, too. I remember the Calgary Olympics and Eddie the Eagle was one of the heartwarming figures from that Olympics. That was also the year of the Jamaican Bobsledding team! As soon as my nephew and I saw the hilarious "Zootopia" trailer before "Star Wars:TFA" we looked at each other and said "We're so there opening day!" 'Cracking good fun' is right! Well, a lot of people do seem to like Batman vs. Superman. I will reserve judgement until I see the film but I still puzzle over the central conceit...Batman and Superman being enemies. Plus, whatever super gadgets Batman has, he is still just a man. Whereas Superman is a super man! No way Batman even has a chance in this fight so where is the suspense? Superman should crush him easily.
