  2. Kiwi's post is killing my computer and my phone. Must...
  3. Is anybody looking forward to "Batman vs. Superman" or "Suicide Squad" or has Hollywood killed the comic book golden egg?
  4. Virginia vs. Walter. Who'd a thunk it? I had Virginia getting this far but not the 'Cuse. Unfortunately Walter, for my bracket's health I need Virginia to win tomorrow! So... GO CAVALIERS! Hope you are a happy woman tomorrow Virginia. All my other games are chalk picks, too...Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma.
  5. Happy birthday to a great Pagette, aen27! Best birthday wishes and cheers to you on your Celebration Day! What a small world...while you were being born I was at the Led Zeppelin concert at the Forum that same night. How apropos that a Page fan such as yourself was born the same day as a Led Zeppelin concert.
  6. Couldn't make the book signing and am going to David Gilmour's second night at the Hollywood Bowl tonight.
  7. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/24/former-raven-terrence-cody-gets-nine-months-for-killing-his-dog/ What a piece of shite! Hope they starve his arse in prison and make him their bitch. Nine months is way too short a punishment.
  8. R.I.P. Joe Garagiola...Ken Howard aka "The White Shadow"...Johan Cruyff. And late yesterday I was blindsided by the news that Gary Shandling passed away. The Gary Shandling Show and the even more brilliant Larry Sanders Show (Gary, Rip Torn, and Jeffrey Tambor were comic gold) were part of my must-see TV of that time. Everything from "The Office" (both Brit and US versions) to "Curb Your Enthusiasm" to half the content on YouTube and the Upright Citizens Brigade schedule owes a debt to Gary Shandling. Rest in peace Gary Shandling. You gave us a million laughs in the dark of night. Sober fact...three of the gentlemen in this clip are now dead.
  9. So happy you got the chance to see "Beautiful". I am seeing it again when it comes to the Pantages soon. She...I think it was a she...was definitely showing off. Rolling around and posing and barking. And you are right...a day at the beach is more therapeutic than any therapist. Santa Monica-Venice-South Bay...Zuma and Malibu on the weekends...these beaches are crowded. As well as Huntington and Newport and Laguna in Orange County. But that still leaves hundreds of miles of coastland, much of it accessible only via ardous hiking over rocks and cliffs. These are the hidden gems of the California coast where one can truly commune with nature.
  10. Pelicans Dd... Further on past Pirate's Cove is Paradise Cove, a great swimming and sunbathing spot. Not too many people. After a midday swim I napped in the sun. When I woke up I noticed I had a little friend joining me for a siesta.
  11. Enjoyed the day off and it was a gorgeous day, to boot. Went to one of my favourite places...Point Dume, Malibu. Started at Zuma Beach, or as I like to call it: Neil Young's beach. Whales and sea lions and dolphins were out in force...even got a wave from a whale. Unfortunately I was too slow to get a photo of them jumping up out of the water. What a sight. Hiked from Zuma to Pirate's Cove. Spring is here and the flowers are in bloom and the sea lions like to take advantage of the warm sun.
  12. This isn't the kind of news one likes to see on a Monday morning after a great weekend. Your poor family, Andy. 23! That is the age you expect to hear one is graduating from college or getting married or buying a house or going on a river rafting trek. Death at 23 can only mean misadventure or some sad circumstances. My condolences to all concerned, Andy. May your family weather the storm and heartbreak. Play the music that heals you. Suddenly, I don't feel like talking about college basketball.

Is he serious? Or kidding around? I have got to admit the idea is intriguing. Pelle actually would bring back a Bon Scott-vibe to AC/DC, with his impish humour. Brian Johnson, while a great belter, had more of a stolid meat-and-potatoes presence. http://www.nme.com/news/acdc--2/92222
  14. Bruce Springsteen was so damn good Thursday night we had to go again Saturday night for the final night at the Sports Arena. Plus my yoga friend called Saturday morning wanting to go, having never seen Bruce before. Played even longer than Thursday...Saturday's show went from 8:06 to 11:54p.m. The band was pumped...the crowd was amped. Memories came flooding back...it was an emotional night. "Wrecking Ball" was suitably added to the setlist. And for the final farewell song, a touching "Bobby Jean". "Now, you hung with me when all the othersTurned away, turned up their noseWe liked the same music, we liked the same bandsWe liked the same clothesWe told each other that we were the wildestThe wildest things we'd ever seenNow I wished you would have told meI wished I could have talked to youJust to say goodbye, Bobby Jean"
  15. Where are you, Rick? Still in limbo?
  16. Kiwi, you know I like you so take this as constructive criticism meant with the best intentions. Your statement serves no purpose other than to reinforce the false impression that Ric Lee somehow slandered John Bonham. As another poster above already said, you people are way too sensitive and too quick to find fault in any little thing any other musician says that isn't "Led Zeppelin is the greatest at everything". Ric Lee did not say anything bad about Bonham no matter what the OP tries to insinuate with his misleading thread title. Plus, saying you don't know who Ric Lee is only reflects your youth and gap in musical knowledge. Ten Years After is a band that was big for a time in the 60s and created a sensation at Woodstock and Ric Lee was the drummer. Alvin Lee was a pretty hot guitarist for a time. You should investigate their music a bit. Ric Lee said nothing derogatory about Bonham or Zeppelin so stop acting like he killed your dog.
  17. All four of my entries suck. The highest ranked of the four is #460-something in the 78%.
  18. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. St. Patrick's Day...LA night #2. 34 songs. 3 hours and 30 minutes. No intermission. No break. No long solos. No fat...all meat. The man is pushing 70 and his energy and passion are as indefatigable as ever. I have seen Bruce nearly 30 times and he never disappoints but last night was All-time Top 10 level. The crowd singing along on "Thunder Road" was one of the best sustained sing-alongs I have heard...not just a line or two but the entire song. This is the anniversary of "The River" and the first part of the concert is the band performing the entire album start to finish. So cool hearing deep cuts from "The River" that he hasn't played in ages. "Sherry Darling", "Crush on You", "I Wanna Marry You" "Stolen Car", "Drive All Night", "Wreck on the Highway". "Independence Day" brought a tear to my eye...as it always does, as it makes me think of my dead dad. Adding to the drama and celebration of the show was the knowledge that these Bruce concerts are going to be the last events held at the L.A. Sports Arena before the place is razed to make way for a new soccer stadium. The Lakers played here for years when they first came over from Minneapolis before Jack Kent Cooke built the Forum. The 1960 Democratic Convention was held at the Sports Arena and John F. Kennedy accepted the nomination. USC and UCLA both played their basketball games here...UCLA's Pauley Pavilion wasn't built until 1966 or so. The Olympics were held here and the boxing scenes from "Rocky" and "Rocky II" were filmed here. The only Wrestlemania event I ever went to was at the Sports Arena in 1991...Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair. Most important to me were the concerts. I saw Pink Floyd's "The Wall" concert here in 1981. Pink Floyd only toured the Wall in two places in the U.S...Nassau and the L.A. Sports Arena. The reason the band gave for playing the Sports Arena instead of the more popular Forum was that the Sports Arena had a larger staging area to accomodate all the props they were using for "The Wall" show. Neil Young and Stone Temple Pilots. Madonna on the Blonde Ambition tour where she sold out 5 consecutive nights. U2 in the 1980s. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam holiday show in 1992...or was it 1991? And tons of Bruce. Once Bruce Springsteen graduated from playing the clubs and small theatres, he seemed to prefer the Sports Arena to the Forum. He once dubbed it in concert "The dump that jumps" and it became the title of a famous bootleg. His first concert at the Sports Arena was in 1980 at the start of "The River" tour. He played 4 or 5 nights and the night I went was Halloween night and the show began with Bruce being carried out in a coffin. His band tried all manner of ways to revive him and the only thing that worked was his guitar. They opened the show with a spirited cover of the Halloween classic "Haunted House" and the audience was in the palm of his hand all night. The following summer in 1981 was another week-long string of shows for "The River" tour, including the legendary Vietnam Veterans show where he played over 4 hours. When Staples Center was built in 1999 and the Lakers and Kings and Clippers would all play their home games there, the Forum and Sports Arena seemed destined to be forgotten...or would have been except for one miracle: Bruce HATED Staples Center! The very first events held in the Staples Center were the Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band reunion shows of 1999. Me and my friends went to three of the four nights and right off the bat, Bruce was not happy about the sound and he definitely wasn't happy about all the luxury boxes that made the upper nose-bleeds seem like a thousand miles away. By the end of the run, Bruce vowed never to play Staples again and he stayed true to his word. Whenever he toured L.A. after that he would play the Forum or the Sports Arena. Other bands followed Bruce's lead...the Red Hot Chili Peppers have never played Staples, always choosing the Forum or the Sports Arena. Even Madonna famously snubbed Staples in 2001 and brought her "Drowned" tour to the Forum instead. If not for Bruce and other musical acts following Bruce's lead, the Forum and Sports Arena would have been dead long ago. The Forum got a reprieve when the Madison Square Garden folks saw the concert potential the Forum still had and bought the place a few years ago. Unfortunately, the Sports Arena is considered too old and dilapidated to be saved by anyone and so it's the wrecking ball for her after tonight's third and final Bruce concert of the week. But she is going out in style.
  19. ^^^Get a grip. I am not talking about your post.
  20. That bracket just opened up wide for Virginia!
  21. Gawd...Sublime. I blame them for all the bad ska wankery that went on in the 90s. The Red Hot Chili Peppers get a fair share of blame, too. I don't hear any Led Zeppelin approach in this...latter-day or early-day or any day. I hear the RHCP's influence on them, though. If you like them, fine. Just don't get the worship they receive. Well, in a way I do...it's because their singer offed himself a la Kurt Cobain. Insuring romanticized notoriety afterwards.
  22. Ooops...my mistake. I thought there was actual "news" here. Just another non-story made to look worse than it is.
  23. Ferchrissakes! Doesn't anyone use common-sense anymore? You would have to be a real imbecile to think that Plant and Page asked Lita Ford to join in 1973. The Runaways weren't even a band then, so Lita Ford wouldn't have even been a known entity to anyone attached to Led Zeppelin at that point. This obviously was in the late-70s after the Runaways had made the scene, and it was just a drunken exchange made in jest. Maybe Page and Plant were upset with Jones switching to Alembic basses and his creeping "ELP" mannerisms in his piano solos in 1977.
